  1. Why it's Super Prix and his sidekick, Super puppy
  2. Nuh uh, my dog is clearly the most awesomesauceness. Forget your working dogs, throw a donut in those rocks and my beagle would fetch the shit out of it   I cant blame her, I would do the same. She wouldn't actually fetch it though, in that there'd be no bringing it back

  4. What are you planning to do with your young Mal, Nekh?
  5. Weren't you doing this when crate training her? I agree with everyone else.
  6. Thanks guys I thought I was going crazy! The relationship building stuff is really important but the other part of what I was saying is that when I get my next pup I'll be doing a lot of work on their behaviour outside of training.
  7. Once again, obviously I have not explained myself well enough because nothing I have said is about people who train tricks, nor have I implied anywhere that people who trick train don't have a good relationship with their dogs. I was just using it as an example for the greater point I was trying to make - nothing at all against trick training. Forget I said anything!
  8. Really? I see it all the time especially at obedience. Lots of dogs that can complete commands but are still just going through the motions. Just to be clear I have nothing against trick training etc The ones I see lacking the relationship are the ones that go "roll over! roll over! ROLL OVER! *tug on leash* ROLLLL OVER!" and the dog MAY roll over ;) I see dogs with obedience titles who still don't have a great relationship with their handler. But it's not just about the dog doing things - I meet dogs all the time that are really great dogs and super obedient when they are working but have terrible manners outside of training. It's a mistake I made with my dog which is why I bought up teaching more than just obedience and tricks - my next puppy will be raised very differently!

  10. I'm not even really referring specifically to people training puppies for sport etc - I see pet people do it all the time. They focus on teaching their puppy commands and by pass stuff like teaching manners, focus, LLW, basic relationship stuff. I think you know what I'm talking about Ness - I don't really care how many 'things' my dog can do if the relationship and focus I want isn't there.
  11. Teaching commands and tricks is great, but sometimes I see people put too much emphasis and focus on having their puppy do lots of different commands and things (for eg) rather than focusing on building a good relationship and and raising their puppy to have good manners outside of training times etc.
  12. For sure! I don't really worry too much about training lots of commands with pups, I would personally put more priority on having a pup that engages well with me, that has fun with me and the rewards I offer, that has good durable focus etc. I don't really care about having a pup that can do lots of things if I don't have the relationship and engagement I want with them. Basic manners in the house, crate training, toilet training, how to be calm and 'off' and up 'on' when I want are the other things I'd also have at the top of my list.
  13. How to play a game with me will be right at the top of my list
  14. Agreed, horrid behaviour. But if you want to affect change then you have to be prepared for passionate reactions. You have to be the bigger person and at least try to get your message out. Definitely - it's better and more effective in the grand scheme of things to be the bigger person, but in a situation like that though it's hard to think logically - I think the OP did a good job dealing with this woman given the situation!
  15. No excuse for behaviour like that no matter how passionate you are. What a horrid woman.
  16. That was awesome!! How much did those dogs enjoy themselves
  17. Daisy has one of the Kyjen mat toys too, she isn't really into toys, but LOVES this one!
  18. I have a real animal squeaker mat toy for Micha and he loves it! There are like 16 squeaks in it or something. He also loves orbee balls as he loves things that bounce and they are the right level of squishness as he really likes to chew on them too.
  19. A friend also suggested trying Canidae Pure Sea, which is also fish based. I will probably go back to Holistic Select once I can't get the old Proplan formula anymore, as I know it works for her.
  20. Which dried food do you feed, Huski? Henschke gets rashes is sensitive as well, and even though the food we feed seems to be ok, I wouldn't mind finding a better food if possible. At the moment we've got her on Proplan sensitive with salmon but I have also fed the Holistic Select fish based dried food with success too (it just isn't as easy for me to get as Proplan). However I just heard that Proplan are changing the ingredients in their salmon dried food so I might have to change back to Holistic Select. The other two dogs eat a raw diet and that is always my first preference, my cat eats a mixture of dried and raw.
  21. Cherry has had allergy problems her entire life. If we cut out anything with red meat, chicken (raw or cooked or otherwise) and keep her strictly on a fish based dried food she does really well. Anything else and she vomits constantly, breaks out in a terrible rash all over her body and bites herself raw until she bleeds. Very happy keeping her on dried food, her coat is lovely now and NO allergies!
  22. Cherry vomits up most raw food too, the only food she can really digest is a fish based dried food, at the moment we have her on Pro Plan and she's doing really well on it. Even a bit of cooked chicken will make her vomit and if she eats it often enough she'll get a terrible rash. My other dogs are fed on a raw diet though because that is what they do best on.
  23. Also, try tiring the puppy out before bed time! Playing games, training, etc. A tired puppy is a sleepy puppy
  24. K9 Pro has a youtube channel now too! We just uploaded a few videos of Steve's new puppy today too. So cute http://www.youtube.com/user/TheK9Professionals?feature=mhee
