  1. Yeah, Geoff Marshall, his newest fake profile made up of names of his previous fake profiles  The whinging was epic about not getting support, especially about the farmers His tin foil hat brigade on his FB page will actually believe anything, they lap up conspiracy theories because they want to believe. Luckily there aren't many of them
  2. The Oscar's law people regularly attack registered breeders, I've seen it for myself. They are also pushing for more laws which will wipe out most hobby breeders and benefit big commercial breeders. Logic is lost on most of them because they only work on emotion.
  3. I didn't really want to say it publicly before because I didn't want him to do it to spite us, but I suspected he wouldn't retire. He has announced that he will be getting more experienced people into his Alliance party (remember he was claiming he was totally independent) and will be running for the state election. I knew he wouldn't give up politics, he has no credibility if he can't fool people with that. He has some diehard people though that will make sure his next election effort is as dismal as this one because they will expose every dirty little secret he has again.
  4. Ummmm....... No. So even though your actions could lead to dogs being banned altogether because of owners breaking the law you don't care? It's not just rushing at other dogs, it's the whole I'll do what i want attitude that affects us all. That's a gross over exaggeration. Really, I remember when we didn't have as many restrictions on where we could take dogs, laws are getting tougher. What do you think council will do if they get complaints about off lead dogs? Do you think they'll spend money on extra staff to police the area or do you think they'll just do what's easiest and ban the dogs. There is a lot of anti-dog sentiment out there due to selfish owners. I just don't understand why you are proud of breaking the law.

  6. Going to places where dogs must be on a leash is one of the core complaints in this thread, people ignore it! Unless there is a ranger right there lots of people ignore the must be on a leash part and that is the whole problem. Sorry, I didn't mean to be a pain - I haven't read the whole thread I was responding to the people who talked about where they felt safest walking their dogs. For me, that's in an on-leash area. I guess I don't have the same complaint about inconsiderate dog owners in on-leash areas; that's never been an issue for me. I hope I didn't sound insensitive to those who do have that complaint. I will go back and read the thread from the beginning :) Sorry if I came across as terse, wasn't intentional. It's just an emotional issue for some of us now and the fact people are not respecting on lead laws means we either don't take our dogs out or risk a serious attack. I don't go to off lead parks any more at all but would like to be able to walk in peace in on lead areas. But those addicted to off leash (the link is in the thread, very funny  ) make it a stressful experience. Then when you say that you won't just stand there if your dog is attacked you are labelled hysterical and crazy.

  8. Yes accidents happens. But we don't need to go and drive on the wrong side of the road just because we're confident drivers. If people want to live on the "wild side" they should do so in their own little space and shouldn't be putting the public at risk. Now I know people who've witnessed off-lead dogs tear up an on-lead dogs in front of it's owners. Guts flying everywhere. I've had many close calls myself. Little dogs rushing at us. My quick thinking has saved many off-lead dogs lives. So yes I do scan a head and I am aware of my surroundings. So I'd rather be aware then ignorant. I agree wholeheartedly, aware and alert beats the hell out of panic stricken. I can not personally justify carrying a maglite or a stick or cattle prod no matter how many unfriendly dogs we've come across. It honestly stinks of all kinds of crazy to me and I really have to bow out of this ridiculous thread now. It's infuriating from both sides of the argument, you should not have your dogs ambling free off lead, there's not any real need, however if shit happens and my dog happened to say get out after a break in, or snap his collar or something else happen and some loony beat him or sprayed him I would be beyond furious and as much as you have a right to defend your own, so would I. And I would. Friendly off lead dogs don't bother me in the slightest, but it's law as the majority are troublesome or less than controlled, but from the other side of the fence you really need to assess the situation at hand before losing your mind and whipping out a cattle prod. Perhaps if you really are considering arming yourself because walks in your neighborhood are so traumatic for you, it might be best to think about a dog treadmill or an acreage or something. I really would be more concerned about some unauthorised person carrying a concealed weapon than a dog. Oh and I'll just leave this here too, from www.police.vic.gov.au So what do you suggest us crazies do if a loose dog is attacking our dogs? Imagine I'm walking my 12 year shih tzu and some bigger dog rushes at us and grabs him and shakes him. What is the non-crazy thing to do in your opinion?
  9. How is asking people to obey the law hysteria? Last nuf nuf experience I had was some half wit throwing her goldie's tennis ball at my dogs who were on lead. My ball mad dog got excited at the ball, my reactive dog got worked up and then had a go at my ball mad dog (displacement behaviour). Then my dogs were fighting and idiot woman keeps throwing her ball at us. You aren't talking about something that rarely happens, like shark attacks but common occurrences. People have a very good reason to be angry, we can have our dogs die in front of us when all we were doing is going for a walk.
  10. It's not vigilante justice if you are only defending yourself. If you are a vigilante you go out looking for it, all we want to do is walk our dogs in peace and be left alone. No one here mentioned anything about going out to find aggressive dogs so you are completely wrong when you label us vigilantes. I am pretty confident I can tell the difference between a dog not attacking and attacking because you know, latching on to my dog, so any dog that is fighting with mine will be removed with whatever it takes. It's really simple, if people don't want their dog hurt while we keep ours alive don't let your dog off leash.
  11. I'll see if I can find the minutes, someone else posted them so I have to dig them up. The other name is just to escape the legal problems associated with Moorook I think, of course this won't work in the long term because the investigators aren't that dumb. A certain wanna be pollie has retired from politics, Glad we helped him go out with a fizzle
  12. The problem is that if people won't respect the on lead laws those policing that area will just make it no dogs at all. That directly affects those of us who do the right thing. So they aren't only risking their own dog's life.
  13. It's illegal and irresponsible and DOLers should know better Keep your dogs on lead in on lead areas, you aren't special.
  14. I know, we all said the same thing. It's true though, she has been to court once with an adjournment. The pictures of the alleged victim aren't pretty and she was hospitalised. The alleged victim however has just landed in jail on drug charges too. It's all so bizarre, makes me appreciate I am only looking in from the outside.
  15. If I knew the council were waiting to swoop I wouldn't go over my limits and have to move a lot of dogs in a hurry. Then again I wouldn't be in that position in the first place
  16. It is worrying that they are over the allowed numbers because the council can step in any moment and enforce their number, which is around 27 dogs. There is a recent copy of the council minutes that makes it clear that the council are going to be working with the rspca in regards to a shelter and that they won't be supporting Moorook. The pound is not dropping dogs off at Moorook so Lola doesn't have the excuse that animals are dumped on her doorstep.
  17. She probably has some molars, most of the time when people say they have no teeth they mean incisors. I really hope she finds the right home for the rest of her days, it's heartbreaking to see these oldies finish their days in a pound
  18. Not sure if a date for trial has been set, case has been adjourned a number of times. Mark Aldridge still makes fake profiles to harass people and got trashed at the election. A volunteer who lives at the shelter is facing aggravated assault charges for allegedly bashing a 63 year old woman who lives next door and who they believe reported them to the rspca.
  19. I think if your dog is onlead and it has an aggressive dog hanging off its neck there isn't much doubt that it is their dog that has caused the problem. How do you identify a safe place, because I don't think they exist. Right now I can walk on private property that I know has no other dogs but soon I will be forced to walk in public every day. If you have a way of knowing an area has no off lead dogs I am all ears because I can't think of any way of telling ahead of time.
  20. That's good to know, I didn't know they reduced them in size.
  21. The problem is how do you know where the loose dogs are, anywhere you go in public there can be dogs at large. By the time you've spotted them they have probably also seen you and if your car is a distance away you can be in trouble.
  22. I'm defending the concept of waiting for proof before coming to a conclusion.
  23. You want to use a cattle prod designed for 400kg or more cattle on a 10 to 30kg dog I'm pretty sure it's going to do more than slow the dog down and you're likely to end up with a lawsuit on your hands They aren't really deadly, but if your dog was being killed in front of you wouldn't you do anything to save it? Calf prodders are used on few day old calves at the sales and they are smaller than some dogs BTW. They are too heavy to carry around though and I know some idiot would report me so I'm not going to risk it.
  24. Any dog that is ripping into mine will be removed however it has to be done, but I'm not going to walk around with a cattle prod.
  25. It is probably harder to taser a dog than a human as they are faster and move differently. It's been shown that capsicum spray is not a good idea because it won't necessarily stop them and can just make them more aggressive.
