  1. I couldn't get past the first set of questions. :D We live on a rural block with a 2 acre fenced area so don't walk our dogs daily. There was no option other than "not walking" your dogs which isn't strictly true in our case.
  2. I prefer to have control of any image of myself or my dogs. If someone is making money off of a photo of me and my dog why shouldn't I get a cut? After all It is my image that is making the money. It's really not that hard to ask if you want to take a photo of a person and their dog/s. As for street/crowd shots I think that is a whole different story. I have asked a photographer at a night club not to include me in any photos that they took. They were happy to oblige.
  3. Afghan doing Obedience. He did finally get his CCD - the second Afghan Hound in Aus to get it.
  4. a smooth afghan looks kinda like a Sloughi or one of those Azwha????? I cant remember I'm sure you know what I mean. :D Azawakh I think the Afghan has a bigger head.
  5. Afghans are not born with a full coat - it does have to grow. Yes that is called a saddle and it occurs naturally. They were bred to hunt independently. Yes they can be trained! No they are not stupid!
  6. To go with the long coated Rottie. A smooth Afghan Hound.
  7. Not necessarily! Some Judges use the Afghans to work out what they want to do in the ring. There have been a few times when I have been first in and ended up doing an awkward triangle or out and back because the Judge hadn't worked out their position in the ring. They then changed what they wanted exhibitors to do or changed their position in the ring. Being first breed in can be soo much fun.
  8. I just added the list of groups and links to the breeds for each group in the FAQ.
  9. Prompted by a question in the General Show Ring forum. Groups and their breeds. Click on the group to see the list of breeds. Group 1 Toys. Group 2 Terriers. Group 3 Gundogs. Group 4 Hounds. Group 5 Working Dogs. Group 6 Utility. Group 7 Non-Sporting.
  10. It's fine to go watch a show. If you want to talk to breeders/exhibitors that's fine but make sure they are not just about to go in the ring. You can usually tell when someone is about to go in the ring by the mad flurry of activity in their Gazebo.
  11. Boo I wanted to come and visit you but our wedding anniversary got in the way Sheesh you need to get your priorities right! Dog shows come before everything else - particularly when you get a chance to meet other DOLers! :D
  12. IMO the most important thing to remember is that at the end of the day you are going home with the best dog in the world! Hell I was once told by a Judge that I made a better post than a handler much to my amusement and everyone else in earshot.
  13. I just wanted to say a big Public & to Oztrail! On Monday I filled out a form on their website inquiring about a missing screw from our 4 year old Deluxe Gazebo. Yesterday a parcel arrived from Oztrail with not 1 but 6 of the inquired about screws - NO CHARGE, not even postage. That is Customer service! Edited cos I can't spell.
  14. It's a VCA rule to be implemented at the ring by the steward. If we start having Show Secretaries getting involved it will get more difficult, as their opinions would still be subject to the VCA rule. If it's a VCA rule where can I find it? What is the point of a rule if exhibitors are unable to find it in the organizations published rules and regs? Hi, My suggestion would be to ring the VCA and find out if there is a rule and where do you find it in the Rule Book eg the Chapter number. Get a copy of it. You do not have to take this to Club Secretary level. Just tell the Steward at the start of your breed that you use a runner, if you need any medical cert etc present them and if there are any further question give the Steward a copy of the relevant page out of the Rule Book. I truly think you wont need to do this........but it's best to be prepared. I have already spoken to VCA and am happy with what I was told by them. However CaptainCourageous has suggested there is another rule so I am hoping that they can tell me where to find it. No mention of this extra rule was made by the person I talked to at VCA. I would like some clarification from CaptainCourageous about where this extra rule has been published and if it is viewable by general exhibitors.

  16. And that's my problem - there seem to be various understandings and localised "rules" for the use of a runner. I was hoping to find the definitive ruling but apparently there is nothing publicly available in writing for exhibitors.
  17. Not really just wanted to know what the rule was. But after looking in the rules and regs couldn't find anything specifically regarding runners. It's just nice to know that you are doing things correctly when you need to do something a bit unusual. Also the show were I will probably be a runner is in Vic which isn't where we usually show.
  18. Did that - the answer is "No problem, just inform the Steward when going in the Ring."
  19. I've searched the ANKC rules and regs and the VCA rules and regs and can't find anything to do with using a runner in the ring. My understanding is that it is at the discretion of the Judge. But I can't find this in writing. Anyone know what the rules are about using a runner are - specifically for a show in Victoria?
  20. Here's my suggestion. When you find her chewing something that she shouldn't, go get a newspaper, roll it it up and then start whacking yourself on the head until you stop leaving things laying around for her to chew. I don't normally advocate adversive techniques but this one does work.
  21. There is a list of accommodation options on the Dogs ACT web site. http://www.actca.asn.au/Accomodation.htm
  22. Just out of interest and to clarify your experience - how many security dogs have you trained?
