I used to wear black jeans. I stopped wearing them not because they were too casual but b/c my dogs head disappeared. I now wear grey pants which I think show off my dog better. My problem with bright suits on anyone is that the bright colour draws your attention to the handler and away from the dog.

If I take the lappy and post results I will have crossed the line from enthusiast to tragic. Might still do it of course. :rolleyes: Hate to tell you this but I believe that line was crossed a while ago.

Any photos I take I now put up on my flickr site for people to download - flickr gives people the option of downloading a range of sizes. While I don't expect or ask for payment I do ask people to acknowledge me as photographer if they use the photo for an ad or in a publication. Mostly people are pretty good about this.

I particularly liked the bit where he lay on the grass and waved his paws in the air. Hey, at least yours was on the ground - Wilbur is usually airborne!! Oh he did that as well. We had play bows, bounces, spins, you name it.

Naughtiest Minor in Show went to the Afghan!

I chose not to go to the Afghan National in Melbourne this year. Instead I showed at a local show, that advertised no CCs for Afghans, as did another Afghan exhibitor. My Baby took out Baby in Group and the other Afghan took out Puppy in Show. Needless to say the lack of points didn't bother either of us. Plus I had a top day with friends at a local show. The reasoning I see behind this rule is to stop people picking of "easy" points while the opposition is at the National Breed Show. I fully support this and like many voted no points Aust wide. If showing your dog is ALL about points then I suggest you find another hobby/sport as this one will only reduce you to tears.

Sounds like you're making good progress! One thing I encourage people to practice is calling the dog, holding the collar then releasing again. This way the dog isn't thinking you grabbing the collar is the end of fun time. Bear.

High prey drive can give a good recall though, in some dogs. I have a working line malinois - I'd imagine her prey drive is a similar intensity to that of any sighthound - and I use prey drive to reward her recall. The idea is trying to teach her that focusing on me, rather than ignoring me & chasing after random other things, is the best way to satisfy her prey drive. I think you are talking about a different sort/intensity of prey drive. Sighthounds have been bred to do one thing and one thing only - chase down moving prey. This drive IME overwhelms all other training. This is the reason that you will hear sighthound folk talk about never letting their dogs off lead unless it is in a fully fenced/secure/safe area.

IMO it depends on what you want the judge to notice - your jacket or the dog. Watched a guy at a recent show in a very bright jacket. My attention was drawn to the jacket not the dog. In act I couldn't tell which breed he was showing but I do remember that jacket.

I would add or General Specials to this statement.

There should be a statement on the schedule about who to make cheques payable to. My guess is they are talking about passes to enter the grounds. So yes you will need to put in an SAE if you want to go on the grounds.

For those who actually want to deal in facts rather than rumour. Each states RSPCA has their Annual report available on their websites. The annual report contains an audited financial statement. It is all there for anyone to read. Annual statistics can be found at http://www.rspca.org.au/resources.html. Again readily available for anyone to read. These stats include a break down by state.

I was told by a Judge, when I got sucked in to handling a Tentie, that I made a better post than a handler! Fortunately the Steward stuck up for me and explained I was more used to handling an Affie. Have fun at Tumba folks! I'll be thinking of you as I relax at home. :D

I realised last year that I was letting my dogs down in the ring because I simply wasn't fit enough to show them to their best advantage. I now cycle 20 Ks 2 -3 time a week to improve my overall fitness. Still working on fixing my diet, but thats another story. What do others do to get fit or maintain their level of fitness for the ring.

Just to add to the clothing topic. This is what happens when you have a multi coloured dog. The amazing headless Afghan hound Baby. Black pants work great for his body but his head disappears on the move.

Depends on your dog. Remember if you are just coming out of Baby the dogs in Puppy are going to be a fair bit older than yours. Depending on the breed this can work for you or against you.
