  1. If the blue was Bb dd and crossed fawn bb dd then then on average 50%nbof the pups would be Bb dd and 50% bb dd.
  2. Looks like a dilute red as has brown nose leather so bb dd. same colour genetics as gives lilac on border collies.
  3. I've supplemented with kelp to help nose pigmentation come back after a dog bite (SWF next door stuck its head under the fence and when Cole went and said hello it went crunch and skinned his nose). The pigmentation did come back though it took several months. His pigmentation was good before the accident so probably would have come back without the kelp.
  4. The chocolate parti looks more like an ee red than a bb chocolate (or red or liver depnding on what your breed standard calls it).
  5. You often find pale eyes in tris as well. The paler eyes seem to have no disadvantages over darker eyes
  6. Looks like the hailstone labradors mentioned in the previous thread on this topic
  7. Australia is listed on its standard as the country of development. NZ had the first breed standard followed by Aus. UK, the country of origin didn't have a breed standard, KC register or show BCs till later. The FCI standard is the UK standard. The NBCC voted to allow more colours several years ago but work is still in progress to iron out discrepancies in the motions voted for and submit a modified standard to the ANKC for consideration. So it's a work in process? That's good then :) It probably will be for years, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for prick ears or smooth coats to be allowed in the Aus standard despite them being in the UK standard. THe BC is probably one of the few breeds where the Aus standard differs from the country of origin standard in a major way. This is the UK standard The Aus standard

  9. The black & white BC in my avatar was purchased as a show potential dog and at 8 weeks he was and breeder friends commented he was worth showing. At 12 weeks he was unshowable and got worse as he grew - he is 2 inches over standard, nose is too long and his coat never really grew - but he has the best temperament and of my 3 dogs is the best to live with. Show potential is just that - potential not a guarantee. A pet pup costs as much to raise as a show potential pup. So long as a pup is healthy, good temperament and has no faults that will affect its quality then it is worth the usual price for a breed.
  10. Wish the southerly would hit here. Still 37 (top of 44 today) and the air con is defunct. I just want it to cool down enough so I can feed the dogs - I hate feeding them when they are hot.
  11. Animal Equilibrium - Helen is Sydney based and wonderful. http://www.animalequil.com/index.htm PM Vets All Natural on DOL - they will have Sydney suppliers. My dogs are on the health booster and look marvelous on it.
  12. Lets hope you don't have to wait till she's 7 months old like I did with Mr Cole  It is exciting to watch a pup turn on.
  13. You can also spray them with apple cider vinegar (2 parts water & i part vinegar). It acts as a repellent and also a coat conditioner. It is not a substitute for things like advantix.
  14. I'm coming over to the ACT for about a month and also want to do some training while there. I have a few names up in Sydney but would like to do some closer to home if possible. ACT doesn't currently hold ANKC herding trials and I know only one person who currently competes regularly in ANKC herding (who also happens to be one of the best advanced handlers and the best at shedding I have seen). You will probably have to find a 3 sheep person for lessons. If I can remember Karen's DOL name I will pas it on as she will have an idea of who gives lessons there.
  15. I had a border collie with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (where the kidneys don't recognise the hormone for urine concentration)who was diagnosed at about 8. He was never put on any medication. The important thing with this disease is that they can't concentrate their urine so can dehydrate very very quickly. I had water bowls everywhere so he always had access to water. Because they also pee more frequently he always has access to go outside for toileting, so he never had accidents inside. He lived to 13.
  16. I use curash powder on hotspots if one of my dogs starts getting a hot spot. It is anti bacterial and anti fungsal and dries them out. I also find they are reluctant to lick it.
  17. I call them bitey crickets but they are mole crickets. Do have a painful bite but not venemous.
  18. He moved last year. I don't have his number but if no one does I know his OHs contact. ETA Have emailed asking for it as I need tom update as well.
  19. Foxie (not mini foxies) bitches around 7kg. I would look at a cross of something like a lhasa. Whatever she is she is cute .
  20. We are now having a break from training till Feb when we help to work the new sheep down ready for next years training. I have walking problems and last year I started using my mobility scooter for training which has been great as I can now do jobs like bringing in the sheep for training etc. Only problem is I am still trying to work out how to shed using it.
  21. http://www.dolforums.com.au/user/12373-sway/ Edited because she has PMs turned off but does have a yahoo email address
  22. Yes and are considered a fault in most breeds but not all. Breeds like sibes often have the most amazing blue eyes. Blue eyes are also genetically linked to deafness. Have a look at dotdashdot's avatar picture of her dally. Her ears are very like the ones in your dogs.
  23. Merle is a dominant gene as is ticking. Ticking occurs on white parts and merle on solid. When you blow the ears up they look more like very heavy ticking with white hairs through them than merle. This dog is white factored every where except may be his ears which could be patched or just heavily ticked. Blue eyes do occur in many breeds.
  24. That is more likely to be white hairs inbetween heavy ticking. This is a dally x basset ETA If I was choosing a merle breed for a cross I would pick koolie as the most obvious in rural areas in the country.
