  1. I hazard to suggest that none of your dogs has resource guarding instincts to be honest - it's never crossed my mind - as I do that from when they're babies .They certainly get into the odd scrap between themselves over treasures occasionally ... and are all fed separately once adult . Spice - just to clarify , I've been around dogs for over 50 yrs - and yes, still make mistakes , (one of them being taking things for granted ;) take on board the advice posted for you - it comes with decades of experience from trainers, breeders and owners .Resource guarding can be a serious problem , and you are doing well seeking advice now :)
  2. Don investigating things ... (iphone snap )
  3. spice - when you say you feed him his raw by hand - do you hand him one large piece of bone/meat , or do you feed him mouthful by mouthful? :) I give my dogs their bones/meat all in one piece by hand - :)
  4. hard to explain my thankfulness and enjoyment for this weather ....it's a bit like 3 Secret Santas at once ! ;) BUT BETTER!!MUCH BETTER My old Pop had a saying when this reprieve from sand , dry and despair came about - he'd say "I just want to get down & ROLL in it " I know just how that feels at present.
  5. ohhh yes :) they can be amazing dogs .I have had the good fortune to train a couple many years ago.
  6. I'm hoping to get to Adelaide soonish - and am so looking forward to seeing parks & gardens looking wonderful after such a long dry spell ;)
  7. Eza- yes, at long long last , there is some green happening ...
  8. poor panda :) a bit of silliness in between rain showers this morning . No Don doesn't have a pretty coat ..he has a lovely thick one he grows !
  9. I think the following blog entry , by Steve @ K9pro will help you sort out a few things in your mind :) CLICK HERE: excerpt : The breeds you are considering will need a lot of work - THIS blog entry again has useful info :) CLICK HERE : excerpt>
  10. They are lovely, aren't they ?? many many years ago , I mortally offended a lady by asking what else was in her 'poodle X ' as I was filling in a form .. OUCH ! That was a lesson well learned ;)
  11. :) Training /management is essential, as he will be a large and strong boy ( and VERY handsome, too, I am guessing :) )
  12. Thistle - I am looking forward to all your work one day being an ebook or something!! :) Thistle is so fortunate . Anyhow, yes!! The trade/swap/gimme game is one I play regularly - Too old for chasing dogs around :p it is not 11% reliable , but just this morning I retrieved a piece of something which I smelt before I saw it ... brought to me happily :)
  13. Trouble with pigging is that it can be a job ..it's not a gambling thing .. Many properties areas will not allow firearms in as a method of pig control , so humans & dogs & knives do the job. I know too well the amount of irresponsible and dangerous and cruel people out there - I also know responsible and caring ones . It will be a tricky one to regulate I know some pigdogs who live with their families ..and are lovely soppy dogs who are very good at their jobs. Thinking, too - regulation would be almost impossible, breeding wise , as a pig dog is rated on ability, not looks - we have had brilliant Koolie pig dogs , and a pig dog who was a scaredy cat softie ( Kieran) ....
  14. hi :) What sort of puppy do you have ? How do you normally give his food ? have you had him from 8 weeks ? For now , I suggest feeding small bits by hand - after pup sits & waits :) Also .try this CLICK HERE and practice LOTS of 'fetch/give' with everything , toys, shoes, etc Don't give pup the opportunity to react :)
  15. Mike Baird just seems to enjoy destroying things ..but that's another story ( brumbies, for example) there are many greys living as pets , and coping ( LOL) with good grace . They seem to be loved & spoilt & well exercised , without flat out runs and/or competition :)
  16. Ash with his 'old-enough-to-be-a-fossil' bone , and the gorgeous miss Molly :)
  17. LOL - you have two vocal breeds fighting in there !! And working dogs. The dog - reactive behaviour ? What does he do exactly ? Until we know that , we can't really suggest anything . NILIF is a 24/7 thing ..and needs to be done by ALL family members It's more a new way of life :) CLICK HERE You might also want to have a read of /try THIS !! Designed by an expert in the type of dog you have :)
  18. if they aren't bleeding - they'll probably be fine :) Whatever you put on he'll lick off ..Just let him decide whether to rest or walk :) Sounds as if pup needs some rough ground training , so his pads toughen up a bit .Soft ,soft pads are also prone to getting more prickles
  19. If you can manage an entire male , are able to pay the extra ego costs etc - then there is no NEED to castrate him :)
  20. ;) that look is for the good-o I am holding :p But yes, he does love me
  21. One for his fans ;) the boy with the wonderful eyes ...
