  1. keep the dog calm & cool ..and yes, vet asap. That's all I know.
  2. How useful!! :) :) slight OT .. but I found these invaluable when I was caring for Mum. At night , there was always one within reach somewhere, as some brands have extra button units you can buy! :) Hope Wilma gets some extra TLC today :)
  3. Glad the hydration has helped :) here's hoping for more good news !
  4. Play is for all sorts of reasons anyhow , isn't it? learning, relationship building, stress relief, exercise, enjoying an endorphin kick ..... :) I used to love watching Hamlet .. who didn't play all that often ..wearing a circular track around a certain rosebush as he & any pups would race each other round & round & round , til they collapsed in a grinning, drooling heap :)
  5. wuffles .. I was just wondering about an internal bleed .... it's similar to what my Hamlet was like ....but it was also then evident by abdominal swelling
  6. Dogs definitely enjoy play!! :D ..and yes, it is very often just that - racing around playing chasey , "keepies off' , & good humoured wrestling .!!!! I love watching dogs meet and then suddenly deciding they are friends - racing off to go mad . However .. in some urban smaller 'dog parks' the dogs don't have many ways they can avoid unwelcome attention if their owners do not notice ..and that's what's unfortunate ..a bit like a small kid going to someone's birthday party because parents think it will be socially beneficial ..and their little one gets picked on and desperately wants to go home ... while parents chat and network ;) having our own pack , it's interesting who plays with whom .. who will do free ear/body piercing for whom .. and who is just beyond it all :)
  7. Good idea, Kirislin ! Oh yes ! With a bow :)
  8. that's ok.. just there are a lot of itchy dogs where folks don't see the culprits! At least you know who the enemy is :)
  9. ..are you sure it's fleas making your dogs itch?
  10. sorry ... but I cannot imagine a pug 'draping'
  11. There's someone in WA I used years ago ... used them for aged cats . and there's McDowell Herbal in bathurst . They are always happy to speak by phone ..and I have used their treatments along with prescribed ones. I have used them with cats, dogs, horses and humans :) that's all I know of, sorry.
  12. Stroke or something? sounds a big worry , I am sorry , and hope he improves over the weekend .
  13. It is a shame that dogs are 'encouraged'/forced to engage with each other . I hope you find somewhere nicer to let your boy run safely.
  14. that is one huggable face ... she has done a great job today ..so have you. :)
  15. :D I love all the light patterns etc in that first one ..lovely! ..and "the Look" in that last one ha, ha ... :D
  16. Hopefully the person who took the Xrays knows how to correctly position a dog , and I hope you get news soon :)
  17. She is getting 'the treatment' ! hope all is OK :)
  18. I would be more than happy to source a large number of articles for you that will irrefutably prove that research causes cancer in rats... yes .. think that's a definite.
  19. not the same effect .. I would imagine ..being a different action ? Is it really scar tissue ? Or a defensive tissue thickening ? NEKH ???????
  20. *sigh* the more we learn, the worse it gets .... like with humans ..everything can increase our chances of cancer .... I guess it is possible , given the positioning of the thyroid... are there any figures of the probability ....?
  21. over many years..our working sheepdogs have been on chains for a lot of their life ..with ordinary leather , etc collars ... and if there was to be damage done to the trachea/muscles,from running around on chains, being tied up at the back of sheepyards when young, and spending an hour or two frequently lunging and barking .... I would imagine dogs having problems with getting tired, heatstroke, funny bark,,, none of which I have ever notuiced, I must admit. many years ago training guide dogs was done using chain correction collars ..and leather collars ... and as far as I know there seemed to be no noticeable damage .... it would be interesting to see any research though :) I can understand "scarring" from the rowels on spurs .. they are an edge ..... and , being used as a fairly constant guide , get tapped against a horse's side a lot .... to me it is a bit like a callous on your foot where a part of your shoe rubs ..or indents on fingers used for certain tasks , day after day ... ?
  22. :) scrambled eggs with a little chopped bacon? yoghurt with a smear of vegemite? smelly cheese grated onto fresh raw mince?
