  1. The leash grabbing may well be tied in with the seizure stuff... in that she reacts to stimuli in certain ways .....and tends to become much more aroused and 'obsessed' than other dogs ? Will she let go the leash for a piece of cabana, or chicken?
  2. Friend is baffled, and worried ... 2 yr old terrier mix .. was very flat about a week ago .. vomited during the nite then later, seemed to have breathing probs and showed what almost looked like seizing ..just the once . Taken to vet ... put on cortisone . for 4 days . heart/lungs etc all OK, apparently. Since then she has started snoring , according to my friend ..and is not at all as energetic as previously . She apparently has some noisy breathing .. similar to reverse sneezing ...which seems to be more in her nose /head..not airways /lungs. Saw vet again today .. and he has now suggested nasal mites.( No, I do not think a sample was taken ) I have never heard of these ... do they produce such symptoms ? ( I had perhaps thought a mite problem in nose would mean sneezing /itching , etc? )
  3. I am very pleased you have spoken with a vet ... and I hope you have a reasonably restful night ... Sending thoughts .....and hoping for a good news post to read in the morning :)
  4. Ok... just a thought - can you put a nightlight in the laundry ? and perhaps a radio on talkback ? That may just help orient him a bit .... plus one of your old jumpers/ or a pillow slip you've used for a few days .....
  5. you used the word :) NEED your boy NEEDS something ... you just have to learn what it is , now.

Dogs vocalise /show distress because they are distressed/ confused /uncomfortable ..and an owner appearing , esp in the dark is such a relief for them ......
  7. Phone a vet clinic and speak to a vet ..not a receptionist ... in case of bloat .. better to get there early than wait too long ...or have it just be a belly ache ! Hope he's feeling better soon. take care
  8. I would advise a full vet check ..as it does sound as if he is suffering from some sort of problem ..whether medical or psycholgical. Keep an accurate diary .. without descriptive /human words , like 'stubborn' Get the vet to properly check all his functions .... poor old fella ... it may be as simple as he wants his kennel back? (with a heating pad or similar ;) ) Please do NOT use any sort of bark collar or punishment which will do nothing except increase anxiety ....
  9. How very sweet :) Blue suits her, too !
  10. I must admit to not believing much heat at all heat on little babies + mum ... ensure a draught proof , roofed /insulated box/bed to reflect/contain bodyheat ..and ..large enough for mum to fully stretch and move ... rough uneven bedding , and let babies use mum as their main heating , encouraging bonding, and more feeding /comfort . When mum moves, or goes toilet , the rough bedding to get purchase on as the pups wriggle to find mum /huddle up ,gives them exercise and gets circulation going from the inside out . I'm mean ;)
  11. Make sure puppy is NOT the centre of attention , and keep it away from the others somehow so they can have their own uninterrupted time with you .... at various times thru the day ...?
  12. That's good ..but wonder why they didn't use the bin?
  13. But wouldn't they still have the knowledge, or the contacts ?
  14. where was it said that Andrew called Caesar back? I read it as Caesar ran back when the other dog had a go at him. That's how I read it as well ... , and yes, I agree , Caesar would have been safer if he had not approached the other dogs
  15. if your dog ingested 1080, or cyanide or a few other nasties I can think of , he would have been dead before you got him out of that park .
  16. <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247);">:) What you describe is actually a retractable leash . A Long line is just that .. a very long line with a clip at one end ..and maybe a handle/loop at the other , with no mechanics to wind it back in . Controlling a dog ..esp. a large one is different for each of these tools ..and still boils down to the fact that the owner needs to have very good reflexes, and need to also be confident their dog will recall ;)
  17. Unless your dog's recall is much better than 'pretty decent' do not let him off leash. I'm glad no one got hurt.It must have been tense for everyone, and scary! If you are doing this merely to toilet your dog out of your own yard ... try teaching your dog to toilet on command ..and then he will do it on lead , and in places of your choosing when you're walking him. It will take a little time, but isn't really hard to do , and the results are SO worth it :) perhaps not , as there are no wounds onyour dog ? It may have sounded pretty full on ... but a full on attack in my experience is grabbing onto and trying to rip throat out , etc .
  18. You must be feeling ripped apart .... Hope it all works out .
  19. A friend's dog did exactly that .. they didn't notice that a tiny bit of juice had leaked out ..but the dog sniffed it out
  20. rescue remedy is primarily to help in trauma situations/with shock etc .... full on separation anxiety does need personal professional help , and a lot of owner input , definitely . There are threads on dealing with S A - here is one you may get help from, and see just how serious it can be if the most appropriate professional is not there to help . LINK HERE
  21. just a query .. OK the dog is 'safely' harnessed .. and you choose to tether on a longer strap, and at a different point .. how will the dog's body NOW react upon impact ? I have visions of a dog hitting other parts of the car , etc , whereas on a seat, short clipped to a solid seat belt clip ..there is much more protection?
