Ok... so I presume this is during the times he is home alone ? What else does he have to occupy him during the day ? exactly what activities and toys ?

... ;) and many years , and gorgeous dogs, later we all KNOW you are , but love you anyhow :P

or, get him a paddle-pool :D let him play!!
-
Give him several watering points ( suitable sized buckets ,( water level /throat -chest high) securely fastened) these are dogs ... they don't care if they drink from a bucket ... or a puddle ;)
-
yes! I know a couple who got their first pup ...and after 6 weeks pup had to be rehomed ....they nearly had a relationship split because of the stress "PpD" was cited then as well - they just couldn't cope very sad.

Nervous in new situations, 16 week old BC, advice?
persephone replied to forfarhill's topic in General Dog Discussion
ouch how disappointing and upsetting. Until something brilliant comes to my brain, or someone pops in with suggestions ..have a look here. This explains things very well and is written by someone whose team is one of the best in the country should you need assistance ~ My only suggestion would be to sit at, or just inside the gate for a few days ..playing, feed her there , until she is settled . Then move outside the gate a foot or so ...meanwhile..take her and the other dog/s for car drives so she can see/smell different things (windows down a bit ) ..just around areas you normally walk -
Welcome, Mrs. O ..and Tama! So..a new baby! No wonder you are feeling a tad wrung out ;) It is hard work..consistently so ..and as a new pup owner , doubly so . Feel free to offload here- we've read it ALL /heard it all done most of it ourselves LOL

here are some ideas CLICK CLICK Oh..and a good set to work on .. is to have her lying comfy ..and practice foot handling /mouth handling in a calm and friendly way ..rewarding for compliance . My pups enjoy having their feet played with..and their lips/mouths ... ears too! start small .. and work up to 'hand holding', lip flapping', ear massaging ... a good bonding 'game' and a very useful skill! -

What a pretty face I thought I was looking at a fox terrier for a few seconds her day is pretty much alll 'holiday ' ..lucky her ;) Snook mentions some good points in her excellent post. It's good Tipit sleeps in a crate - that's a really useful thing to teach! Noseworks, YES! Also - why not just do things around the house ..pick up toys, carry bed, bring you slippers, a book , tissue ... that sort of thing . Gives her something to DO ..to think about , and a JOB. -

Just to say hello & welcome We need a photo of this girl if you can ;) That sounds an interesting mix. Can you describe in a bit of detail HER daily timetable ..also describe what the other dogs are like? Physically, as well as discipline-wise. Sounds like she has a very good brain for learning things, so hopefully she can learn to self-calm when needed, and to maybe do some thinking about things in a different way? Folks on here, who live in SA may also be able to point you in the direction of a professional to guide you. I urge you to NOT chooses a fancy franchise name, or someone who works cheap/has a flashy website or looks about 16 ;) Sadly, these days it is all too easy to become a "dog trainer" in name only , without having a good knowledge of the psychology of dogs (and of their humans) ! -

If I can explain this in another way . we go to buy a new car . We know the make, the model ..cos we've done our research . We go to the showroom, and we then get to pick the colour! We are certain , that whichever colour we pick, we will be getting the same performance, size, and capabilities of machine..so we can be confident in our personal choice Drive away- No more to pay. Pups are different . Every pup is a different personality . Every pup is a slightly different makeup/size/colour/coat. Even in a litter where the puppies are all one colour ... those little mammalian brains make SURE there are a whole lots of varying little temperaments in there! Because ethical/reputable breeders spend so much time watching/working with their new babies ..AND know the makeup of the parentage , they have a good idea of how these pups will grow up /what their temperaments will be A lovely family, excited to choose a puppy cannot know this .... an example. Recently , we had 3 girl pups . Working breed . At a few weeks old , we could see that one was not like the other two ... she was happy to sleep on a favourite blanket while her sisters caused havoc .She lacked the "drive' needed to be happy in the rough and hard job working with stock. We waited for her 'right' person to show up ..and he did ! She is now a Truck Dog .. travelling with her 'dad' as he delivers stock food etc all over ... sleeping inside, spending time with neighbours, playing with kids , and it is a match made in heaven ( well, not really ... ;) ) Her "Dad" also knew that if things didn't work out, that we would take her back - no hard feelings , and that we are always just a phone call away . Finding the right match is a bit like making a jigsaw puzzle Everyone knows when the piece just "clicks" So, @wlee I do hope your breeder has taken time to ensure the puppy you get is THE best fit for your family ..that you have ongoing support from them, and that you share photos and stories of your new family member here with us -
