  1. how sure of this are you ? ;)I would just leave the crate closed, so she doesn't learn any bad habits
  2. What bedding is in the crate? maybe just put one cotton towel on the floor of it? You could also raise the crate up a couple of cm off the floor to allow air circulation ...and remove any solid base . Do not cover the crate ... get a thermometer ans see what teh temperature is in various areas .. place crate where the temp is lowest .. That's all I can think of ...
  3. That's good news ... and yes, a doggy door sounds a very good plan !
  4. The few I've worked with were lovely dogs(and bouncy) - that need a LOT of care taken to stop them being bored & yappy . Grooming is pretty important .They have a beautiful 'smile'
  5. here's hoping she will improve now
  6. sounds a good plan for the hypothetical owner.
  7. The hypothetical owner should have reported being hit by a bicycle driven by a hypothetical drunk! They should also say something like .."It was SUCH a shock - we were all frightened- even my poor dog got scared and hurt when we were all on the ground "
  8. I read it as chained TO a ute ..not IN a Ute .. I presume it was at ground level if it bit her legs ? Perhaps the owner was a tradie .. and secured the dog to the vehicle while he was working ? ... The poor lady .. I hope she recovers without complication. What a scare!!
  9. Glad he's getting some help with it- and fingers crossed surgery won't be needed.
  10. I was beginning to think no one bothered to do any actual learning/training anymore ;) yes, there are harnesses one can buy ... and you can also do things the old fashioned way - getting taught a method which you can use to educate your dog Training tools like headcollars can be DANGEROUS if used inappropriately , with an inexperienced dog owner. Dog training clubs , and private trainers can work with you on understanding WHY your dog pulls , HOW to stop it, and WHEN to use the techniques Dogs walked together may pull a lot more ..they are a 'pack' and excitement is infectious. pups /teenagers who have not been taught from day one to walk on a loose leash, will of course pull .. as they know no better A lot of dogs pull simply because their owners are unsure of what to do , and are concerned of being 'cruel' , or hurting the dog in some way. I enjoy the communications which happen when a pup/dog is being trained ..and then walks on a loose leash, or whatever , wearing just a flat collar , and is doing so because they are listening , feeling, and responding to my voice, and /or slight changes in my body language ....... learning how to actually communicate with , and educate your pup/dog is a fascination .. as you then find out all the different bits of information your dog processes to make him what he is ;)
  11. I am so sorry your girl has gone ...
  12. they eye, I presume? poor boy - that would have been agony. Keep us posted
  13. have you had a look inside her mouth? Does she have anything that looks red/sore/like a foreign body? Will she eat treats/human food? Is she drinking happily? Vet check tomorrow, I think... just to be safe....
  14. Muzzling this boy and therefore leaving him defenceless ...and making him look very different, thus attracting attention is probably not something I'd suggest. I follow these folks on FB.... maybe they have ideas? LINK
  15. No. Often puppies are housed in such a way that their poo is one of the first things they come in contact with ..and so they may mouth /eat it. ..and so start a habit. Puppies may also eat poo as it smells like whatever food they are being fed .... Red meat is a wonderful food for dogs .. it has iron and protein and all sorts of good things in it . What some people see as 'constipated' I see as normal. Dogs are not meant to poo like cows .. ..and red meat , fed as part of a good diet, will not make a dog constipated.
  16. Hi. What is the attitude of the residents to dog attacks/deaths in camp? Do people seek revenge or replacement ...or is it accepted as what happens when dogs live with not much control over either hormones or behaviours? All this - your community's expectations-should play a part in what you now choose to do . It's not for me to even think about what they may require of you ... it's a different way of living - and you're the one in the middle . If there is a bitch in heat, and your dog is part of this bitch's pack.. then he may well be asserting his rights. Fine , if he was running feral.. not so good if he has a caring owner ... Desexing will obviously remove the hormones, but won't change much behaviour otherwise...he may have always been a fighter ... I wish you a good outcome ..
  17. ...and they can't /won't tell you what tests have been done? is this your regular vet? I'd be asking for a printout ..."just for my records, please" My experience (from many years ago)....is that drips in front legs can be held fairly well with splints etc ..and if a dog is in a tiny cage - they can not walk around in circles . I'd be surprised if they didn't do the initial parvo test .. that's just a swab into the dog's rectum ... then it's tested - only takes a couple of minutes ..and lets them know straight away .....so they then know about quarantine etc. Our clinic does that while dogs are still in the car .
  18. Did the original parvo test come up negative then? I hope he improves today, poor little fella.
  19. just someone's opinion ..... and it made me smile actually
