  1. having never actually bought/chosen a dog/pup I don't know .. all my dogs have found me .. and have all been just right
  2. I am sorry you have now lost your old mate .. he had a lovely smile..and you gave him 8 years of love. ... RIP Old fella.
  3. ours will climb large leaning trees and rocks when hunting rabbits or cats .. and of course the working dogs will scale all sorts of fences when with sheep . I would not ever ask a dog to climb a ladder ..don't have reason to ...they can't use a paintbrush ;)
  4. yep, being a foster with uncertain homing prospects makes for a different thought process than a dog who is already with a family and much loved - and whose family is willing to cope with any issues.
  5. Don't envy you. I guess what has to be decided is the temperamental stabilty of the dog . Is she 'crazy' because she is a teenager? because she's been so confined? because she's been in an unstable environment ? or is it her nature ? I agree with getting her assessed as best you can first .. the surgery/rehab is an awful lot to invest in a dog who may be a big handful...... best of luck with it all...
  6. ...and during sleep, kidneys operate at a much lower level- thus meaning the bladder needs less frequent emptying. Do not use time 'holding on' at night as a guide.
  7. Thinking of you and your girl tonight ... take care.
  8. there will be toileting done indoors , if he can't get to the outdoors ... he can not hang on all day ...then hang on all night too ... Just remember to not make a fuss of him as soon as you get him home.. or let him out of his pen immediately ....don't even talk to him for the first 5 or 10 minutes ..then just do everything matter of fact
  9. I would imagine this is a rare occurrence - an accident .... :hugs:
  10. It can be grass, or carpet, or detergent , or pollen, or lots of things Keep note of when he scratches .. then maybe you can remember what he was doing/where he was before it happened?
  11. here's hoping all goes smoothly from here on in ....
  12. how sure of this are you ? ;)I would just leave the crate closed, so she doesn't learn any bad habits
  13. What bedding is in the crate? maybe just put one cotton towel on the floor of it? You could also raise the crate up a couple of cm off the floor to allow air circulation ...and remove any solid base . Do not cover the crate ... get a thermometer ans see what teh temperature is in various areas .. place crate where the temp is lowest .. That's all I can think of ...
  14. That's good news ... and yes, a doggy door sounds a very good plan !
  15. The few I've worked with were lovely dogs(and bouncy) - that need a LOT of care taken to stop them being bored & yappy . Grooming is pretty important .They have a beautiful 'smile'
  16. here's hoping she will improve now
  17. sounds a good plan for the hypothetical owner.
  18. The hypothetical owner should have reported being hit by a bicycle driven by a hypothetical drunk! They should also say something like .."It was SUCH a shock - we were all frightened- even my poor dog got scared and hurt when we were all on the ground "
  19. I read it as chained TO a ute ..not IN a Ute .. I presume it was at ground level if it bit her legs ? Perhaps the owner was a tradie .. and secured the dog to the vehicle while he was working ? ... The poor lady .. I hope she recovers without complication. What a scare!!
