Hmm .. The best example I saw was when our old Sam , (who, as a GSD X GR was tall enough to reach the sink) grabbed the tray with teh dog meat on it ..and carried it ever so carefully to teh dog beds under the table . he then put it down.... but Mitch grabbed most of it ..and Sam didn;t get more than a morsel for his trouble

Hi It's more likely she may have some arthritis, or an injury which worsens with exercise . if you ask on here, someone may be able to recommend a good chiro in your area They will check her over and could find any sore spots/problems . Does this happen every day.. or only on occasions?

Critter- I haven't voted, but would like to wish you well... and would also like to pat you on the back for thinking up some sort of different idea the fact that the idea has generated some interesting discussion is a bonus! :D -
Breeding Quality Pups Being Sold As 'products'

I am from good irish stock . I don't consider the word offensive at all .. a definition for the context in which it is used here : the original (as a person, race, or language) from which others derive another : [mass noun] [usually with adjective or noun modifier] a person's ancestry or line of descent:her mother was of French stock a breed, variety, or population of an animal or plant. -

Barked And Growled At By Other Peoples Dogs On My Property
persephone replied to Maxiewolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
The dog needs to be squirted with a hose, or something - not have friendly overtures made ;) You don't want it to escape to your yard because it knows there's friendly folk there, do you? You want it OUT of your yard . -
I would recommend you first consult a behaviourist That way, you know EXACTLY why your dog barks ...and get taught strategies to both manage and to educate your dog to lessen the barking . having a professional (Not a franchise with a catchy name ) alongside you will be invaluable . Perhaps start with contacting K9pro ?You might also want to read THIS?

I agree with poodlefan- your pup can not go outside & play .. interact with his environment ..even watch teh birds or shadows .. unless he is WITH YOU. So - in the static , relatively 'sterile' environment of your apartment .. YOU are all there is that is his to relate with , to watch, to learn from. he needs to have toys changed every day or two. he needs to have food provided in boxes/wrapped up /in treat balls ..in bottles ..AWAY from where you are . Being independent , and being alone are different , IMO. When you are at work - he can not be with you. simple. When you are home .. he needs to learn that he can still be physically away, but 'connected' .he needs to learn about his world by himself..and you need to continually change that environment, provide challenges in the way he does things... and rewards which he can give himself, for accomplishing tasks . I may be a bit biased - not at all keen on velcro dogs

Take photos so that it can be seen they are on your property - record dates , call council. Do NOT try & restrain a dog showing aggression -

I thought the same ... website configured a certain way ? And breeding stock is a very common term. -
Sorry to hear that news Your vet would be the best one to get a prognosis from - he knows your dog, how much poison she ingested, and what damage it has done . I hope she makes a good recovery , and is feeling a lot more comfortable now .

if you trained your previous dog with no problems, and didn't use a crate .. there is no real reason to start , IMO. I have never used one. they are useful tools... they can help with housetraining ,and provide puppies with a spot to be out of the way and safe ..the training is also useful for when pup/dog needs to stay /travel/be in hospital. it's up to you

there is no 100% guarantee ... Toydog's post was excellent. Vitamins won't really help ... and his knees may get worse. They may also get better ! supplements like glucosamine will provide help for the joints ..and are a good idea if you are concerned, get a referral to a specialist vet , one who deals with these bone/joint problems every day - then there will be much less guessing . In the meantime, keep him lean, walk him regularly, swim him if you can , and enjoy him :D

reminds me of my little girl , Wreckit , who was a mini foxie X dachsie (we think) with legs so short! She was a terrific sheepdog in yards & trucks . That little chi looked so happy and focussed - lovely to see!

So many questions - and so many possibilities What were his living conditions at the breeders? When was he separated from his mother/littermates? What temperament do his parents have? What does his day consist of? exercise/training/games/where he spends time ,etc What is his general behaviour in the room with you , on leash, travelling in the car, when he's eating? How are you toilet training him? and this will be doing nothing to alleviate any anxiety he has I also like to teach any pups that bangs/crashes /machinery noises are something pleasant ... not to be scared of . I am not a fan of walking a dog who suddenly hits the deck or gets anxious when they hear a loud noise ;) Something to consider .. You said his crate training went backwards when your partner became redundant. Does the pup enjoy spending time with your partner? Does you partner do some of the training with the pup? Does your partner do the crate training too? Does your partner feed the pup?

luxating patella is not uncommon. What treatment does your vet suggest? Your pup is not very old is it? What are his symptoms? Well done on contacting teh breeder pet insurance... as you already have a diagnosis- and the pup was possibly born with it - pet insurance may not cover it now .

it may be that she has an infection ... perhaps consider a vet check . -
So sorry he had a lovely life with you ..and looked a gorgeous boy.
-
yep- leave collar on .. feed pup- or give her some special treats or a nice bone .. and ignore her! If your mum fusses over her when she looks like that - or goes & takes the collar off - she is reinforcing the behaviour ;) Just leave it on ..... take it off when puppy is sleeping
