  1. She can still have the chicken necks- but perhaps reduce by 1/3 or 1/2 ?
  2. It is so sad Years ago- I held a friend's guide dog as he went over the bridge . I had seen this dog born, seen him trained, and working - I knew him well - and he was a sweet and gentle boy - Unfortunately, some years down the track,he bit a few times- absolutely out of the blue. and yes, he had a brain tumour ... he was PTS.
  3. Best of luck Hope it all works out for you (and your dog)
  4. That's good - dehydration /electrolyte imbalance is not a good thing . Hopefully he will start to improve now-
  5. Any reason the vet didn't keep him in ,on a drip/obs? It's hard for you to juggle things ... Poor Gus. Fingers crossed.
  6. vet is the best spot.... I hope he is Ok and that you all travelled safely.
  7. VET app't sounds good - tonite would have been better ... .. hope it's just a bug .
  8. Not really All I will suggest is that you spend some time re training her - like housetraining a puppy . reward her madly for toileting outside .. and use a word when she is going to/does ... so , in a while, she will associate that word with toileting ..and you can take her out last thing at night, and have her wee . This is no quick fix, though. May I suggest one of THESE or a canine equivalent? I used one of these recently for our incontinent poor old girl ... it worked very well . I am sure there will be other helpful ideas for you Also ,when it's cold/wet.. go outside..take your dog for a walk/play in the wet!! let her see that a bit of wet is no reason to stay indoors ;)
  9. Oh Just make sure a crate is wide enough for her to lie, on her side, with legs stretched out straight ..and to turn around in comfortably, with little knee twisting /pivoting .
  10. guess it was all my years of guide dog training... dogs were trained from pups to toilet on command .. were emptied out before walks/training .. and not allowed to sniff/toilet on walks (0pbviously if they HAD to go from illness they just did ;) ) Dogs were trained toileting ON lead , given the command word .. so if needed, they could be allowed to empty out in a suitable spot . Toilet on command is such a useful thing to keep your dog comfortable, whilst not having it toilet in inappropriate places It means toileting only takes a minute or two .. and is an absolute godsend when travelling/visiting I always expected the same from my pet dogs - walks on lead are usually 'work' ... runs off lead in parks/paddocks are 'freetime' .. as are runs on longlines in parks - peeing on grass/trees etc is allowed .
  11. I couldn't do that to a dog ... forbid peeing off leash at a dog park and correcting/disciplining all the time NO peeing on leash unless given permission , and no peeing indoors etc . is a sensible rule ... .. when free running and in the presence of other dog scents /other dogs, though, It's a doggy thing to do ,IMO
  12. it sounds as if something gave her a decent allergic reaction ! Glad she's happy again :)
  13. Don't have to - I've been pee'd on several times...... I know the feeling ;)
  14. I don't think it was teh sharpei which had a tumour- I think it was a GSD ,elsewhere.
  15. Exactly. While it is a training issue- it is certainly not worth "furious" - as he had not been trained otherwise ;) he's a teenager- and he needs educating as to when & where to do certain things ..and that is the owner's responsibilty
  16. Much better with the sound off .. I cannot stand all the hype
  17. if you walk him quietly on a harness that's fine ... collars are not a good idea- as they press right on the area of the trachea which is inflamed- and cause extra coughing Running/excitement is also not a good plan- as the more he gets excited , the more he may cough. get a dosage for the cough mix from your vet in teh morning - just to be safe. the vet knows your dog . We don't. So: My suggestions are - keep him comfortable and warm... (not hot) feed him as per normal ... contact your vet in the morning for advice or to make an appointment .
  18. That's the responsible thing to do . When I started work at 8 am .. I used to walk the dog for around 45mins at 5:30 .. then come home & get brekky, etc .It was a nice way to start the day
  19. It is one of my pet hates .. seeing owners allowing dogs (and bitches) to use the whole world as their toilet
  20. "easier" is not the reason you take a dog to an off lead park - sorry. You take dogs to an off lead park to socialise/play... on TOP of their everyday walks/training sessions. I believe all dogs need a session or 3 of education each day .. otherwise, what do they do with their brains ????? if uyour pup has perfect recall, instant 'Down", will happily retrieve/drop an item, or will cheerfully give you his toys/bones/sytolen treasures... then look up trick training on here - lots of folks do snazzy trick training if your dog needs to improve any of the basics I mentioned, then that's what you do a few times a day. Pups/dogs NEED brainwork otherwise they start to think up things to do themselves .. like digging/fence fighting/chewing plants/hoses.. all that stuff :p You go with him ;) or watch him thru a window.. or keep him in and only take him on a long line often ...almost like housetraining again By all means distract him from marking when walking ... BUT after 10 minutes or so of good controlled walking .. take him somewhere suitable and using your toilet command- let him pee . That way he is learning that he can pee .. but YOU say 'when' Yopu then have the knoweledge that your dog is not fouling every upright object in the neighbourhood
