  1. Like an american salesman on a home shopping channel trying to sell you a product ...and a set of steak knives! Hamlet uses his voice far too often ,and far too loudly
  2. Oh, Cordy .. over the years I have been a DOLer , photos and stories of your girl always popped up amongst the tales of the rescues that came & went - & your absolute love for her shone thru. It's been a long time to have her in your life..and the hole will be ragged. Thinking of you ,and Sean ..and baby William (and the gorgeous Genivieve). Run proudly over the bridge, old lady .. you carry a lot of love with you.
  3. My old Mitchell was covered in lipomas at the end of his days .. because he was old ,and they caused no problem, the vet left them where they were. Glad all you scares were unfounded
  4. We have done so ... we lost our wonderful worker "Dulcie" around 18 mths ago to snakebite. We now have another wonderful worker, a sister to Dulcie, ..also called Dulcie She is remarkably similar in temperament and working style .. body shape ..and general pig headeness, and originally had another name ... but Dulcie she became We have only done this a few times ..and it is a sort of homage , I guess, to the previous carrier of the name .
  5. Yes. I believe it is a combination of many things - included the restrictions on dogs' freedom to be with other dogs ....often single dogs rarely get a chance to spend any decent amount of time with other dogs ..being dogs. Most activities are designed by humans. Obedience/sports/shows ... and interactions are supervised/guided.
  6. Scary, CC ! Glad you got it sorted I must admit to finding the catalogue intimidating.. and don't bother using it .
  7. G'Day - Hamlet here. Out in the bush we don't care how frosty it is .. we laugh at the humans who , cos their pee spot is a little building well away from the house , have to be out in the weather, just like us There are a few of us .. and first thing in the morning ,it's great to be outside - we race around and bark at the birds and the goats .Our human is always outside for about a half hour first up .. she is busy feeding other animals - so that is our best time of the day
  8. they are a type of dog ,originally used for hunting /digging . Different types developed in different areas - and for different prey ???
  9. has he been vet checked? Does he chew bones ok? When you got him.. you say he was like this? What did his breeder say? I would definitely voice your concerns with your vet . I would also be tempted to ditch the kibble .. and feed raw . ;) From your description .. he should be bones ! if he is looking and feeling good - he must be eating enough .. so when does he eat it? have you actually measured how much he consumes in a day?
  10. You're doing well . Just remember to keep your voices and actions calm ... lower the pitch of your voice .. and slow down play . Bouncy pups do not need the excitement of high pitched voices/ lots of running . "kisses" Hmmm... wise to stay away from that one ;)
  11. yep - ours love icecream When living in the city - I would often get 1 for me, and 1 for the dog I would also have given her dog a cup of water .......
  12. Training. very short on leash training sessions .. no nonsense just a few minutes.. and make him concentrate ;) make your play sessions more mind games, less chasey games! roll a ball .... get him to chase TOYS, not humans . What does he know now? Sit? shake? down? roll over? Up? OFF? Beg? Toilet on command? eat on command? Now is the perfect time to often take him on leash in the car .. or to have him on leash in your arms as you walk along the road --- so he gets to see the outside world ! if he is totally confined to your apartment for the next couple of months- then expected to cheerfully cope with the big sky/loud noises/smells /movement outdoors .. he needs to experience it safely now harper will probably not turn out a barker/biter if he is treated like a dog , trained calmly , and given HEAPS to think about/do . poodles are very clever, and need to be experiencing/doing .
  13. Lock the gate if you can... and make sure you have estimated times when this lady will come. Then you can leave your dog in a separate room or crate ..so everyone is safe ;0
  14. Glad he's on the improve ! i will suggest feeding him 2 or 3 X a day ... he may only like to eat small amounts- so frequency may help him . Go back to raw, once he's well, maybe... and include stuff like ox cheek, lamb flap and pork .. which is a bit fattier ?
  15. please don't do any exercise regime or anything until you get a specialist opinion ..THEN you will know how severe it is, what the surgery may involve, what recovery time, etc to expect - how much it will cost ,and his suitability for surgery . Rappie - (who is a vet ), has also recommended a specialist opinion ... and you have been given some names - honestly- they are the best ones to answer your questions comprehensively - cos they will have seen your dog ;)
  16. Damn - something in my eye now ;) What a beautiful little girl she is Well Done.
  17. I would get a specialist opinion - esp. if your boy is quite overweight - the specialist will assess the risks to the 'good' knee during rehab, etc.
  18. Trust me- after having watched/assisted at my own dog's op. It was neither quick,or easy ;)..in comparison to a spey , for example ....
