  1. It's only 24 hrs. If you are worried- ask his breeder They know their dogs/pups!
  2. .... praise, cuddles ,etc. These are a GREAT reward .... if you read up on Nothing In Life Is Free .... then any praise /cuddling/treats should be given only when pup/dog is doing something 'good'. NOT pawing your leg to be picked up , NOT clambering ,uninvited onto the couch and your lap, NOT for just looking cute ;) Being calm and quiet , having all four feet on the ground when spoken to , sitting, ...all these are good times for skritches and cuddles and treats if wanted Our dogs get lots of vocal/physical praise when they behave
  3. How wonderful to see a fit ,active and really responsive BB
  4. I agree with asking your vet for valium. ACP tends to affect motor control...whilst leaving the dog terrified
  5. Oh.My ..he has a presence to him already ! I love these dogs' markings and temperament .
  6. My Auntie had a cairn terrier .. my aunt was in her 70's when she got the dog..and this little dog was so forgiving and wonderfully personable She had my Aunt trained and was not the most obedient .. but put up with everything ..and was always SO pleased to see us - those twinkly eyes would shine out a warm welcome
  7. EVERY nice thing lives in the crate ;) snuggle toys/heatpad (instead of a human) or well wrapped H/W bottle .. smelly yummy food .. cover the crate a bit .. have it where he can still see/hear/smell everyone ...
  8. bones need to be fresh every day or two .. and freeze them first, so it makes it harder to get meat off. ;) what do you bury in his sandpit ? perhaps try tiny bits of dried liver... or individual bits of his kibble that way he works for his dinner ! Don't let him see you hiding all of them ..but let him see that there is something nice there!
  9. Harper is a beautiful baby:) I think that, provided you offer the same as what is used to .. he will eat when he's ready . Don't start off hand feeding/coddling .. or he will soon think that is the way he should be fed all the time .... that's how puppies learn . Start him in the crate ASAP, too .. if that's what you want .. otherwise alongside you will be his 'normal' Well done with teh toilet training too!! Remember a good rule is : "start as you mean to go on "
  10. for a small dog like that ... the BIG meaty bones would keep him entertained for a while.. and give him his dose of endorphins Toys which move/make noise may be useful as well.. what sort of toys does he have ? Is he sleeping on the couch, or is it for human use? if it is not for dog use.. I would liberally sprinkle it with pepper .. or citronella oil . I would also remove the buttons , if practicable.
  11. but wouldn't it affect your dog as well? A dog in attack mode probably wouldn't notice it,either
  12. a vet check would be my first thought! Fits can have all sorts of origins ... and IMO it is wise to notify your vet and get some advice . make a note of what she did/ate/played with this morning ...so you can tell the vet . I hope it was a one-off.
  13. maybe he knows you are going to be home soon ...and is all excited ?
  14. or ask k9pro if they will exchange ? or sell it here in marketplace and buy a good fit one ?
  15. ...and that is possibly why you see a change in her behaviour.... she does not know she has done wrong- but she knows you will react . This training will do nothing to stop her peeing inside, unfortunately. You should not be at all forceful in anything- timid dog ,kelpie, or not....no need. What I suggest you do though, is ,when it's NOT raining.. go out with her to toilet, and praise her everytime. Also -whenever you see her toilet outside, use a word - "Quick", "wee" ,whatever... then lots of praise. diligent, and use lots of praise, and get the timing right - it will be one of the most useful things you learn to teach your dog! ;) When it's raining... make sure she is is one room -easily cleaned , and preferably with access outside ... if you're home ..put on your coat, and go out with her every couple of hours . I have always walked my dogs in rain, played with my dogs in rain ...so they do not get too precious about being out in the wet ....so I don't have a lot of good training tips for you . the main one is to NEVER scold /timeout your dog if you have not caught it actually urinating . Never. The dog associates what is doing the second you start scolding .... NOT the wee it did 2 hours ago....
  16. It's usually ears & claws left here
  17. Ours never eat the gut - and yes, the heads are much relished ---
  18. have a look HERE re:laws in different states .
  19. Yes!! We do .. both cats and dogs crunch up the whole thing if for your dog.. part freeze it , so she chews it properly ;)
