  1. Wondering how you went at the vets? poor fella.
  2. The vet will most likely have a good idea after visual/palpation then they will probably suggest other avenues if needed.
  3. The lump is definitely a lymph node swollen? I was thinking it could be lots of things- from an allergic reaction to a sting/bite..to a little cyst, to a healing reaction to a splinter/prickle which has invaded the skin , to a lymph node reacting to allergy/infection.... Whatever- hope your fears are allayed soon
  4. IMO , 'remote training collars' are not an extreme measure used correctly and after personal tuition in their use , however without good knowledge of a dog's behaviour/body language they, like any other training aid/tool can be easily misused Mickymoo- what methods have you tried so far which have not been effective? ...thinking also - the money which you would spend on a ecollar may be better spent speaking with/being advised by someone like This person- recommended by some DOL people ?
  5. Ok ....... if he is that excitable ... and has learnt to play that way , I have a solution.. Don't play those games!! get him to learn other ways of playing ... what 'play' are you doing with him where he can bite you? There are lots of ways to interact/play !!
  6. There are no-pull harnesses - however, it may be just that the training methods you have been advised to use don't suit? What has your trainer advised you to do ?
  7. Hi Firstly get her vet checked for a bladder infection . Then , if that's all clear, then think of strategies .
  8. Raw bones can be digested - however, when cooked, the composition changes, and they can not . NO cooked bones if possible.
  9. Thinking of you and your poor sore boy
  10. What exercise/training is he getting each day? Do you work on his find/fetch instincts?
  11. Oh, gosh Poor, poor little dog .Nothing deserves that sort of torture.Death at least means he is now safe over the bridge.
  12. Sad for you has his vet said why he is losing his sight now? Don't worry too much about how he will cope- as it's gradual, he will adjust quite well- using his nose/ears! Just make sure that garden/indoor furniture doesn't get moved around much..and that steps etc are safe ... you can perhaps start him on using different cues- like small bells or a windchime hung near significant spots outside .. a drop or two of scents like lavender to help guide him to places.... or even things like textured paths..gravel that crunches.. or soft woodchips , to act as tactile clues he will be fine
  13. LOL! Well.... it happens maybe phone them and ask ? If no joy- then book her in to what was suggested , and see what proper Xrays find . THEN- you will know what you are dealing with, at least . Contacting the trainer is a very good idea!! looking forward to reading updates
  14. So did she have Xrays at the RSPCA when a puppy ? Or how did they diagnose HD?
  15. Sounds as if some Xrays done by someone expert in HD may be a good idea . I will just suggest no cuddles - reward her when she does something correctly - pat her, scratch her- but ignore her if she comes looking . perhaps put her in a sit, then pat her? That way she is not missing out - but she also does NOT have an opportunity to snap/growl!!
  16. yes... tho they do not see it as 'hate' . I believe working partnerships are forged with trust ,confidence and guidance.Bub, I believe that the fact that Bitty is now more focussed could be explained by the fact she is now much more attuned to you. She is more used to what you want- and how you operate. She is more confident , and you perhaps have finally released any 'barriers' you had to a full working relationship with her ?
  17. Hmm That article corvus posted some of made me think of the partnerships of some working dog pairs- Guide Dogs/ stock working dogs, in particular ,( these are two I know about:o) as these require long hours together, and some intelligent disobedience on the dog's part - and also a knowledge of the 'end result' for both parties . It happens sometimes that there seems to be thought transferrence between dog and human.... kinda like twins finishing each others' sentences It is an amazing feeling - to work together , without commands, because you both know the task, and the dog can make decisions which help you both achieve it . (or I could be entirely wrong )
  18. Glad you caught it - but those glue traps are just a horrible stressful and painful way to catch anything
  19. Looking forward to how things go on Thursday ! I am so glad you will have someone there to help.
