  1. so now your dog never gets to walk around in daylight? That's sad...
  2. By saying every morning there is a new hole- I am presuming she is digging at night? keeping her indoors would solve the problem if that is the case if she is outside all night, she will be looking for something to do..... what activity does she get during an average day- and how much time does she spend doing stuff with you ?
  3. Gravy is not wonderful stuff- flour,salt,colour..... chicken stock made by you with no salt..or a little bit of roo mince as suggested- better still, change to a food he enjoys eating!
  4. Hi- if you are leaving food for him all day- then perhaps he is just eating too much?
  5. The malaseb will kill any 'nasties' on his feet ... shouldn't need to do it very many times at all! I wouldn't use soap too often - it takes away the oils ,and it will not kill any bacteria/fungus - so why bother ?
  6. Dog's feet are the only part that sweat. As you know- sweat can get smelly when exposed to teh air,and when bacteria do their work Does Charlie lick at his feet much? Instead of a nailbrush- just rinse in clean warm water every night..and DRY gently and thoroughly with a towel. if he tries to lick- distract him.. as bacteria from his saliva just get straight to work on that lovely sweat if his feet are being licked- or look at all pink/red.. might be an idea to see a vet- there are reactions like that from yeast/fungi/allergies.
  7. :D because dogs ARE sensitive to noise- their ears pick up tiny sounds we cannot hear....and if he has nothing more exciting to do/smell/see...then he will bark. If he is alone in the yard while you are at work... yes, he possibly is bored. Do you walk him before you go out? Often this helps- a LONG on leash walk, with a session of obedience training will tire a dog out more than a rum around the park (one is WORK, one is play... work is more tiring/satisfying than play) What toys does he have to occupy him during the day?
  8. It's a good way to start- but he is a dog, and he will benefit from chewing bones! :D At his age, teething is not far away- and lots of nice chicken frames/lam ribs/turkey wings will help remove loose teeth, and give him something to do ,as well as helping his body with calcium, etc. If it were me, I would not be giving supplemental calcium- but others more knowledgable than I will explain the ins&outs of calcium/phosphorous ratios, and working out just what is needed to avoid joint troubles ;)
  9. Seems like all is going well- :D
  10. tell that to our old workers, who mostly get PTS or die at around 14/15 . Food - mostly just bones/meat/offal with a cheapish dry food when meat is scarce. They live outdoors ,work very hard, have basic vacc's and see a vet only in emergencies.
  11. It is far too much risk,IMO, to castrate the older dog.... the younger one- a perfect candidate ! No- it won't stop them fighting, though. Training and management will help ..but with bitch scent everywhere- it will be hard
  12. I would also suggest making the fence higher ,NOW, so that the problem never eventuates.
  13. I have trained many dogs using a chain collar- and not once was it ever used as a 'choke' collar used properly- and at the appropriate level of correction it can be a very effective tool Glad it has helped. The biting at the groomers was possibly due to a fear response - none of us saw it happen so I cannot state that this was the case... if it was due to fear, then corrections will not help- they will make it worse.
  14. Glad everyone is alive and that you have at last got some help! Some sleep now ill be a very good thing indeed ! *fingers crossed* for plenty of milk soon !!
  15. I would suggest a belly band first off- so he cannot mark everything! (buy a girl's boobtube or 3, line with a piece of towelling..and put it on him, so if he pees, the belly band will absorb most of it ) Also keep him on leash with you at all times inside- and watch him like a hawk! Take him out every 1/2 hr or so and use a command - praise him like mad if he pees on trees etc! have a read here ! LINK
  16. Dog out roaming- my bet is a car impact too . With luck and a full recovery, he will not try and run across the road again .poor boy. His injuries sound much like one of my cats who was hit by a car.. head trauma , eye hanging out- skin off....he survived, minus sight in one eye.
  17. This is a worry, too Hope these littlies fare better . poor babies. I agree the vet does not sound helpful at all
  18. :D thanks folks _ i needed to have stuff written down ! My brain is turning to mush I shall see what eventuates as the new pup gets old enough .
  19. :D I hope the puppies made it through this far, and that you can get them to a vet somewhere .
  20. yes- absolutely lovely kind people- but yes, need some gentle educating.
