  1. Luke Dixon said almost exactly what I would have said! Go as normal...and try not to 'fuss' over Chelsea. treat everything/everyone as before. I would also add that her first walk/s should perhaps be in another area? Suss it out first, or go somewhere she likes..but not exactly where the attack took place. that way, she walks, is interested, and gains confidence for a few days before the normal walks begin ....maybe? Hope everyone sllept well last night
  2. Hi.. this is not one which can be responsibly answered on an internet forum her apparent lack of stamina is a concern..no, at her age she should still be as fit as a fiddle!! here are some things to think about before you take her to the vet for a checkup! Is she overweight? How much other exercise does she get? what distance does she walk each day, and has this changed ? Is she on Heartworm prevention medication? If not, has she been tested for Heartworm? Did she have an illness or accident around a year ago, perhaps? Does she sleep more than usual? Pant more than usual? Drink more than usual? When was her last full check-up? Have you changed her diet? Have a think on these things , for a start.. but I would suggest a Vet visit to put your mind at ease.
  3. Hi... I don't think I would encourage anyone to crawl around spraying malawash in a confined area!!! It could be a health hazard... You really need something specifically for fleas, too..with a GROWTH REGULATOR in..otherwise every so often a new hatch will happen
  4. glad he's finally settling....
  5. and AFAIK a bit of 'work' to expel a stool is a good thing..empties out those anal glands as they are meant to be I see so many dogs just defecate with absolutely no effort..nothinmg is really solid anymore. I see fox scats around..I know...NOT dogs..and they are very hard..full of bone and fur and carapaces of bugs, and seeds... bet they don't have blocked anal glands
  6. all of the above. BUT whatever you use has to be done at least 4x a day
  7. Tb..you're not snappy.. just a worried 'parent' ..and way more patient than I would be
  8. You're a stronger person than me ...I couldn't last more than a day or two with a vomiting dog.... anymore...... I always remember my old Mitch..he vomited a few times overnight..took him to the vet next morning, and he had hepatitis! he was very ill for a while..but did recover well With Hamlet..he threw up afew times..he had a blockage..I have a real worry now Hopefully he gets rid of the 'bug' soon!!
  9. even better! isn't that where those 'magic', ancient breed white horses are/originated? They are gorgeous!
  10. and WASH the slicer before cooking the dinner vegies
  11. Feed lower protein meat? Would that help? Or do they metabolise it the same whatever the levels? Feed white meat/ fish mostly ?

  17. I grew up watching this behaviour amongst our working dogs. they were often given access to whole animals, and while the stomach/intestines weren't favourites (liver and heart and kidneys were ) Brains were also a treasure....and tongue! they would shake and eat . Best not to stand too close, I learnt early on...gut contents have a lingering smell.......
  18. This is the BEST thread! Thanks to all you knowledgable people..I am learning to think a little differently. thanks Ruthless..I am glad you started it!!!
  19. Good plan!! OP..If you cannot make the fence higher..don't feel happy with them being indoors, and cannot afford to buy a run/kennel.... then an electric wire may be the go. How much exercise are they getting? A GOOD long walk (not a 'play'/beach walk)..but a walk where they must concentrate and do a little obedience every so often.. twice a day would be ideal (plus their play time Keeping lots of interesting things in the yard? Huge cardboard boxes, bones, KONGS, tyres, squeaky toys, a couple of soccer balls... food hidden under the ground... oh, and unless you are doing this at EXACTLY the moment they START to scale the fence.......they will not associate it with climbing the fence, and , not only will you waste your energy, THEY will wonder why you are doing it! (and, no, they don't 'know' they've done wrong) Hope you have some ideas to work with , now..it must be frustrating
  20. There are some very talented folks out there !! Just wish flickr didn't take so long to download for me..I don't go in there anymore Would like to have a look at your work!
  21. I agree that chaining has its uses (our working dogs are chained when not working, or in our company) but this needs to be taught to a dog, so the dog IS comfortable on the chain, and becomes "chain savvy" owners also have to put much thought into allocating an area, choosing a chain type, providing shelter and space, and also making the area SAFE Young Widget (7 mths) has been chained at night now for a couple of months..she is SO much quieter ..has her bone and usually a full KONG..a couple of toilet rolls to chew, her blanket and kennel....
  22. Oh..best of luck at the Doc's Chezz!!!!!!!!!
