  1. We were owned for 10yrs by a beautiful Dobe girl, she was loyal, loving, very intelligent and a big sook. She loved being with us, she would get up on the lounge (her favorite spot) sit next to me and pull my arm with her paw towards her chest for me to rub and when rubbing would pur like a cat. Or just roll over on the lounge to have her tummy rubbed. Dobes don't have a dog smell even when wet and are great with kids. Dobes make wonderful family pets, BUT much as I love Dobes I will never have another one again. Just before she turned 5yrs, x-rays showed Wobbler Syndrome a cruel Hereditary disease common in this breed. She spent the last 5yrs of her life on meds, I couldn't even take her for a walk. :D :D I'm not saying all Dobes have this and other problems, but you should be aware of it as breeders won't tell you. :D I got the cold shoulder from the breeder and the club was no help. :D I put her to sleep 6yrs ago and still miss her, such is the effect this breed has on you. GSD's are a wonderful breed, they too are loyal, loving, very intelligent, very protective and love to be with you. They do drop coat every where, so if you don't like hair maybe this breed is not for you. They have a great temperament are big sooks and make excellent house dogs, especially on your lounge or bed. I wouldn't say they are easy to train, as my girl was a monster :D but once they learn something they never forget. They can be very stubborn at times, but who cares Obedience training is a must and is best done with the GSD club. Do you know two other breeds have similar characteristics to the Dobermann, being the Rottweiler and Rhodesian Ridgeback. The Dobe came from the Rottie and since I have a Rottie they do seem similar, especially the bark and drool at tea time. :D A friend has a RR and she reminds so much of a Dobe right down to the mouthing of the fingers it's not funny, so you might want to look into these breeds too.
  2. If that woman heard my two GSD's playing, she'd have a heart attact.
  3. Hi Koalathebear, My GSD girl was also hyperactive, which she still is at 7 yrs of age. She wouldn't stand still to be brushed, I had to wear gloves so she wouldn't bite me :D the bitting stopped at about 5 to 6mths. Wouldn't come when called, no matter what I did. Jumping wasn't a big problem if she did, I'd turn my back and say no and she soon got the message. She started obedience training with the GSDL at 4mths and was the worst one there, wouldn't do anything except be a little monster who grew into a big monster. :D Then all of a sudden at about 15mths I noticed a big difference in her, she started to mature and from then on I couldn't wish for a better dog. She was raised with TLC and at no time did I hit or punish her for being normal. :p My GSD boy who is very calm was never a biter and won't even chase a ball or play tug o war, unlike my girl. He was an angel, till about 14mths then he started to pull the clothes off the line and rip up door mats buckets etc. The worst thing was how stubborn he became, he'd sit in the yard and I'd say come in now and he'd just sit there and if I went near him he'd just fall over so I had to get the lead to bring him inside. :D This lasted till he was 3yrs old, which is when he matured. He is now 7.5yrs and a beautiful loving boy. I must say how easy it was to house train both my GSD's thank God. :D Anyway I hope this has helped you, all the best with your boy.
  4. We do the same thing here, the only difference is we don't kill whales. :D :D
  5. Koalathebear, Have you tried spraying underarm deodorant on your jeans and rubbing aftershave on your arms ? This really works as they don't like the taste, I know because my GSD girl was a monster as a pup and use to bite the hell out of me. I was covered in bites, arms and legs. I was told hold her head gently in your hands and say "no" but she said "yes" and would bite harder If she wasn't bitting me she was chewing every thing else, what a monster. But there's good news, they do grow out of it as it's just a matter of time.
  6. How right you are, was thinking the same thing as leopards don't change their spots do they.
  7. So Tasmania is coming into line with other states, just goes to show dickhead pollies are every where. When will these moron pollies and the R$PCA learn, it's the stupid owners not the breed.
  8. There is a lot more to this than is at first apparent. For a start, we believe that a number of people who have posted comments are currently being prosecuted by the RSPCA or are friends of theirs. If you live in Townsville you will probably be aware of their identities. <snip> Michael Beatty Media And Community Relations RSPCA Queensland So the R$PCA is going to prosecute people for having an opinion are they and speaking out One would think the money spent on prosecuting people who voice an opinion would be better spent caring for animals . They must have plenty of money to throw around. I had to laugh when I read - Michael Beatty, Media and Community Relations ;)
  9. I take each issue as it comes & look for evidence before reaching a conclusion. A summary: A woman has fostered a horse for a lengthy period for the local RSPCA. Understandably comes to love it. Decides to adopt it. Is told by the local RSPCA that the adoption cost will be $500. I would've paid that.....just as I've insisted on paying the registered breeders who wanted to give me their retired showdogs for nothing. Just my personal value....something I wouldn't impose on everyone else. So the woman was right to have a different value.....that she'd fostered for so long that surely she could just adopt. I've no quibble in her speaking out & getting support for her view. A newspaper even offering to pay the sum. The issue is taken up by the CEO who accurately says what's happened is sure not good customer service. Then matters are in train for a resolutiion. No hanging offences for anyone, so far, is my conclusion. Then a turn of events, for which I'd like details of evidence. The horse is taken back to the RSCPA with media report vaguely saying that matters had to be attended to so its health was OK for adoption. After a period of being in their care, the report is that the horse had to be PTS for colic. There's no evidence in the media report of actual vet-reported details of what this 'health' trail was. So I haven't reached any conclusion on this part of the story. I'd need to know what veterinary notes said on the genesis of the horse's condition. Great liars are also great magicians -- Adolf Hitler. If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed -- Adolf Hitler. Does this sound like the R$PCA to you, it does to me. ;)
  10. For many years we had 3 bitches together Dobermann, Collie Rough, Old English Sheep Dog and the OESD was the boss and some times was very nasty. She would show her teeth and just attack at any time, so I had to watch her all the time and it was no fun. As the saying goes bitches are bitches and that is very true, you have to be on your toes all the time. Now with GSD's if you have a dog, you must get a bitch. This is for a very good reason because dogs don't like dogs and bitches don't like other bitches. If you have two bitches they will fight all the time or worse and you'll have to get rid of one, same for dogs. Some don't like either. I had a GSD bitch (still do) and wanted another one, as we had always had bitches but I was told by the GSDL you must get a dog for the reasons above which turned out to be correct as I saw at GSD training how both sexes behaved. :D I also have a Rottie bitch who is very gentle and gets on well with my GSD boy, but my GSD girl is the boss and will sometimes stand over her. When I see this I push her away so she knows I'm the boss and it works very well. I could pat and hug my GSD boy all day and both bitches couldn't care less, and that's the difference.
  11. Was on the TV news tonight, one woman was sitting with her beautiful Rottie who was chewing his ball. The TV interviewer asked a woman sitting next to them, do you like sitting next to a Rottweiler and she said "he's cute".
  12. Mita, How can you and some others support this vile organization when things like this happen every day and are just covered up. Do you think the R$PCA is going to show anyone proof of what really happened, no bloody way as all the evidence is long gone which doesn't surprise anyone. :D RIP Brandy, Clifford and all the animals who fall into the hands of the R$PCA Maybe you might want to take a look at this link, you may change your mind about them. http://www.careaware.info/index.html
  13. When will people learn the R$PCA is no bloody charity there's no charity in them. The only thing they care about is money. It's a wonder they didn't say poor Brandy turned aggressive just like poor Clifford the Pitbull then just dump her at the tip, what a caring bunch of Bastards.
  14. In 1905 it was claimed that an ancestor of all GSD's living today had wolf's blood, this was never proved or disproved. Does this mean I have a wolf in my lounge room GSD's do look a bit like a wolf and my GSD girl likes to lick me
  15. Either GSD or Rottie, what else both love kids and love being with you. Make perfect house pets and will love their lounge. :D ;)
  16. Very sad but this will go on forever because many people just don't care. :D ;)
  17. Voted no of cause but Media polls mean nothing, just like bite stats. The owners are the problem, but the R$PCA and Media don't see it that way and there's no such thing as a dangerous breed. Ban the deed not the breed.
  18. http://www.careaware.info/index.html I found this and it makes very good reading.
  19. Doesn't take in strays ?? So the stray pointer I adopted from them 5 weeks ago , what is he then, temporarily homeless ? between homes ? He was a stray taken in by them !! They don't take strays, a couple of years back I found a stray dog rang the R$PCA and was told we don't take strays ring the council. Is that simple enough for you. The council said ring the R$PCA. Here's another little gem, some years back the R$PCA had a magazine called "animals" and in it was "letters to the editor" when the letters began to be critical of the R$PCA guess what no more letters to the editor. they don't like people telling them off, because they can do no wrong.
  20. Unbelievable what a bloody joke, GCCC what a bunch of wankers you are. If they get away with this BS what other breeds will they come after next. ;)
  21. R$PCA UK murdered 12 GSD's with a bolt gun, enraged the whole country. A person from GSD rescue UK said the R$PCA didn't even try to find homes or even contact them. So not taking in strays doesn't surprise anyone. Here the R$PCA do the same thing and worse, remember Clifford the Pitbull so whats new. :D The R$PCA don't care what people think as long as the money flows in their sweet. R$PCA for all creatures great and small, what a bloody joke.
