  1. Our Dogs like to roll in cat poo, never their own the smell makes me want to vomit. they also like to eat it - yuk. Since we don't own a cat, I think it belongs to the boofhead nextdoor. If I can catch it, this cat will be looking out of a cage at the pound.
  2. As others have said Desex him, I'm male and I had no problem desexing my German Shepherd Dog, it's the best thing you can do. my boy was desexed at 10mths, he's still the same but without the problems of an entire male. It won't change his Temperament, he will still act male anyway in Shepherds the boys are bigger sooks than the girls. Desexing a male is cheaper than a Bitch, my boy is over 4yrs old now doesn't like other dogs and is still silly didn't change him.
  3. I would never use a slicker brush on a short coat dog, you should only use a soft bristle brush and a shedding blade( which looks like a hack saw blade bent into a circle with a handle ). Our Rottie Is only brushed with the above, to use a slicker brush would scratch her skin. Our German Shepherds are brushed with a slicker brush and an undercoat rake, because this Breed has a double coat and you must remove the undercoat, never use force let the brush do the work. I agree Vets know nothing about Dog Breeds or Grooming, what your vet said proves this. My Shepherd girl hates being brushed, so I put a collar on, hold the collar and brush. There are so many grooming aids around now, I can understand how confused people are.
  4. Becks, Please take no notice of Flames Daddy must be having a very bad day, I'm sure you have people like that over there. Some people live on hate, If It was not for England and Germany, we would not have the wonderful Dog Breeds we own and love today. The Import ban on German Shepherds had nothing to do with Germany or England, get your facts right Flames Daddy. In 1929 an Import ban was placed on the German Shepherd by aussie Pollies, why? Because some Fool claimed that the Shepherd would breed with Dingoes and produce a superior sheep killer, this unjust ban was only lifted in 1972. But what has this all to do with flea shampoo anyway?
  5. I give our dogs one tin of sardines in soy oil ( brand name) once a week.
  6. As garlic is in the Onion Family, and we all know what Onions can do to dogs- I would NEVER use It ! I use Frontline and have no fleas, If I did I would change.
  7. Kaz Sorry to bore you again but I have found that to train a Rottie, you need someone who knows Rottweilers. The only people I would trust is the Rottie Club, these people know and love these beautiful dogs. Last year I took our Rescue Rottie to All Breeds Training, but she did not cope I did not know why. As I have been doing Obedience training with my German Shepherds with the GSDL and all Breeds for 4 yrs. When Evelyn told me you can't train a Rottie like a Shepherd, you must go slowly as they don't like to be pushed, The penny droped, how right she is. We are not having any serious problems with our Rottie, she's very gentle and loving but she needs socialization and training, as do all dogs. being an x-cruelty case It makes the job harder. People like you Kaz deserve a medal for the wonderful work you do. All the best.
  8. Kaz, The Rottweiler Club of NSW runs Obedience / Socialisation classes every second tuesday night at the Bill Spilstead Complex , Luddenham rd. Erskine Park, from 7.00-8.30 pm. you don't have to be a member or own a Rottie, but you need a car to get there. Ron and Evelyn who run training are very good with problem dogs. Sounds like this person has big problems with this Rottie cross, but I'm sure Evelyn ( 02-9838 1460 ) can handle this one. I have just started going there with our Rescue Rottie, who has some problems but nothing like this poor person has. training dates-- march 13th- 27th, april 10th-24th, may 8th-22nd, june 5th-19th. I hope this has been of help, good luck.
  9. I thought I was the only one with Itchy dogs, we have two German Shepherds, who are 4 yrs old and a Rottie 3.5 yrs old. We've had this problem for three years but only in summer. around october-november last year my GSD boy started scratching his back, biting his toes, legs and his body. My GSD girl started biting her back and pulling the hair out in january this year, our Rottie bites and licks her toes till red and very sore. my dogs are in the same conditions all year round, eat the same food. I have tried med. shampoos, anti-histamines on vet advice like --------Claratyne,Zyrtec,Phenergan,Zadine,Polaramine,fish oil tabs but they did not work. they are now on a drug called Prednisolone 5mg which my vet says is a low dose, and it works. my GSD boy stopped scratching and biting, so did my GSD girl. they have one tab a day. our Rottie is on two tabs per day, I also use a cream called Ilium Neocort from the vet which I rub on the bites and they clear up. I'm sure I'ts the grass and summer, our dogs roll in it, eat it all year round, they love it. last month our Rottie was laying on mowed grass, that night I noticed a small rash on her chest -bingo thats it I hope. when summer is gone I'll take them off the tabs.
  10. C 7 Ripp-off. My son went to a vet who wanted to give his dog a C 7, which was due the following week. as all our dogs get the C 5, I asked my vet who said it was not necessary. my son saved some money by going elsewere. I had never heard of a C 7 my dogs go to All Breeds Training and must have the C 5.
  11. Joy4Land I to stood at GSDL training once with my girl thinking, I've got the only monster here. all the other Shepherds were well behaved, what was I doing wrong - nothing I had a hyper-active puppy. so I know you feel, I also know how you will feel when she matures. you will have a loyal, loving, intelligent and protective girl and great with kids. My Shepherd Dog is the opposite he's very calm. ( yes I was silly I got another one) at 15mths he became very stubbon and was always hard to train. when he matured at 3yrs problems disappeared. they are wonderful dogs, you have picked a breed that loves to be with you, a great family dog. enjoy and all the best.
  12. Welcome to owning a German Shepherd. Our Shepherd bitch was the same, she had plenty of toys but she loved our lounge, shoes, table legs, chair legs in fact anything left laying around she would chew up. My arms and legs were covered in bites from sharp puppy teeth. she never came when called, would not stand still to be brushed, a real monster. we did try the crate, she was only put in it for 20 mins at a time, twice a day to give us a brake from her. she was never left alone, she started obedience training at 4.5mths, but it made no difference. she was not a hole digger, that's something. we only used the crate till she was 5mths. this all went on till she was about 15mths, I noticed a change she came when called, I could brush her most times, she started to behave at training. why because she had started to mature, by the age of 2yrs that monster had gone. At no stage did we give up with her. I did think about it,but we love her and could never give her away. My advice is do what your doing now, when she matures you'll wonder what all the fuss was. Our girl is 4yrs old now still a little naughty but I could not imagine life without her. I believe many Shepherds and other breeds end up in pounds and shelters because some people won't put in the hard work, plus many other things that go with owning a dog. All the best with your girl.
  13. Bullygirl, for help you might try the German Shepherd Dog League Secretary on 02-9970 8727, for advice. I'm sure something can be done to help you, good luck.
  14. Bullygirl, you have chosen a breed that is not for everyone, German Shepherds can be very difficult and stubborn- as you now know. socialization and obedience training from an early age is a must, you must learn to handle and control the dog. I am no expert, so when my Shepherd girl was 4mths, I took her to obedience training run by the German Shepherd Dog League. here I learnt how to handle and control her, the same for my Shepherd dog- who was harder to train. you must do the training with your dog, so he knows your in control not him. this is not done overnight, I'ts ongoing. years later mine still go to our local all breeds club they love it. shame you live so far from any training club, chains and muzzles are not for dogs. we use food rewards and it works, this is a very intelligent breed, loving and loyal. It's not the dogs fault, don't give up keep trying. on tug o war my Shepherd bitch loves it, I play it with her all the time. my Shepherd dog won't play it. Our Rottie loves it also, sometimes I'll have a tug o war with both.
