The ones on Topbuy look like good value - although its hard to tell quality from a photo... I usually just wait til I go to the next dog show and get one or two but will be looking for an extra couple myself over the next month or so.

Great photos Ron, where were you? Looks like Bowna!! In a couple of those shots Katy looks like she has a hangover, the way her eyes are bloodshot etc

God save me from idiots. Try this phone call that I took yesterday - posted it from work during lunch and as I said then you can tell I was still a bit irate by the spelling and typos Just had a puppy enquiry from a bloke that wants a choc bitch 'sorry, dont breed chocs' well a gold one, yes have aYELLOW bitch and two black dogs available. Wont ahve a black dog, had one once and it killed a sheep. "Dont htink it was the colour that was responsible sir " dont care, black dogs kill sheep. SO now I'm ready to hang up because I'm not selling my babies to this bloke. And if I have a choc boy and use another colour girl can I get all three colours. "its a little more complicated than that sir if you were thinking of breeding any my yellow girl is only on limited register which means you couldnt register pups from her litter. Then tells me the daughter works at a vets and she can get a 'white lab'. "They may be pale coloured sir but the colour is recognised as yellow No he says, these are silver white. "Not purebreds sir, I can assure you, probably crossed with a weimiraner" but the 'breeder' told my daughter that its a purebred "contact DOgsNSW sir, gave him number, obtain copy of official Australian standard sir, I can assure there isno colour 'white' for a lab. Oh so you think this is what people call a byb, "yes sir that is a good chnce" oh but of course it would be cheaper and a novel colour. And I wnat a lab to run with my STCD as a guard dog. SIR, THAT IS WHY YOUR LABRADOR KILLS SHEEP - i AM SORRY BUT I WILL NOT SELL YOU A PUPPY!! GODD DAY. "

Stop the puppy milk. We found the puppy milk was making the stools rather soft. 8 weeks the vet and friends told me that they don't need to be supplimenting milk. The kibble and raw fresh foods should be ideal diet for your youngters. I know they like their milk but once we cut it out they all were fine and they all adapted to the water. Copied this from our puppy information package and this is a typical day's meals for our Labs: Breakfast: approx 1/2 cup of biscuits soaked in puppy milk and small amount of raw diced meat - at 8 weeks slowly replace the milk with warm water (Never feed him/her dry biscuits until he/she is at least 6 months old, always moisten with milk or water) Lunch: Chopped meat of either beef, lamb or chicken with biscuits and yoghurt moistened with a small amount of puppy milk/water Dinner: Chopped meat of either beef, lamb or chicken with soaked biscuits and moistened with puppy milk. You could replace this with some chicken necks however you must supervise him/her while he/she is eating his/her meals especially if it includes bones If you mix steamed rice and yoghurt you can use that for one meal a day instead of biscuits and that will help firm up stools. We also include in the weekly rotation ricotta cheese, grated cheese, sardines, carrot, egg You could include a lamb bone at either lunch or dinner but never leave your puppy alone with a bone.

Have a litter on the ground ready for their new homes now. Ran them on an extra week so I could be sure which one I really wanted to keep. COst of airfare to Syd for mating, plus mating, OH had two weeks off work, plus I had a total of 8 days off while they were really little. Petrol and time to race home and feed them everyday for last 3 weeks. Rain non stop for almost 4 weeks meant htey lived inside longer than usual so extra cleaning, ... The list goes on and that's before we address the issue of milk subsitutes, food, vet bills ..... etc etc etc

Did ;) but thought I would post so others know its coming Thanks Ellz

Yep same here. Our pups paper train themselves as soon as they can move around and get out of the box. We then put a puppy pen up around the end of the box so they can get out and about - they end up with quite a sizeable area because the paper area is as big as the box. Within a couple of days they have themselves papertrained. Then once we start taking them outside for a few minutes or hours they tend to learn to wait. I have just walked 6 pups through the house from one yard to the other side of the house, no accidents. Some puppy adopters have commented that their baby was housetrained within a couple of days - we figure the paper bit gives them a good head start.

Oh Cavalblaze I ams o glad your baby is on the mend - how very distressing for both of you. Hesa your babies are just magnificent Shelby glad your babies are running with mum. We havent been that lucky with this litter. Mum hasnt been near them for over a week adn still has milk. We let them out together this morning to see what would happen, at first she ran away but after about 5 minutes she was happy to stand for them. And on top of that, her mother - the pups grandmother - is also happy to stand for them even though she is the pub with no beer. I had taken orders for my pups and they were leaving next week at 9 weeks. Partly because I like to keep them an extra week or two and partly because the owner of the sire is coming to look at them. Yesterday the people who had paid a small holding deposit on a black girl rang and said they had changed thier mind. I have one yellow boy and one yellow girl and not sure yet which if either I will keep - part of the reason for the visit from the sire's owner. One person was desperate for a yellow girl but said that if we kept the girl then he would take the yellow boy and he has been in contact with me since two weeks before the pups were born and every two or three days. He had first option after me. Hadnt heard from him since last weekend so shot of an email to him last night just touching base and he responded with have bought another dog and I pick him up next week. We weren’t sure if we were going to get one or not and I guess I am as excited as kids to get him. I appreciate all your help!! and maybe in future we may want another and will be sure to contact you. Grrrrrrrrrrrr Ian happy that I can find other homes for my babies but when I think of the number of people who had contacted me and I said,no sorr...

Do you have a baby gate or similar so that you can get mum away for a couple of hours on her own. We are lucky that we were able to separate them into separate parts of the house and now into two separate parts of the yard. They can still see each other but and interact a little but no contact. having said that, I want the pups to have more adult socialisation and we have thier grandmother here also. She is very maternal and so I thougth I would let her mother the pups for a little while tonight - she should play with them etc. Out she went adn they attacked her -trying to latch on - and she was gruff with them but it got dark adn I didnt leave them together. However tomorrow I will do so again and let her tell them off - that's a good learning curve for them. Your bitch will eventually and put them in thier place.

I use mince for the first two weeks we are weaning pups. Then as they grow I begin to introduce smaller bits of diced meat. Its actually very time consuming to stand there and cut meat up into very small pieces but its worth the effort. By the time the pups are completely weaned at 6 weeks they are able to chew smaller chunks and we actually sit around and watch as they play with a piece of lamb flap. Current babies are nearly eight weeks and they chew chunks of meat, chomp on bones when supervised, and will eat anything put in front of them. Mince is the middle man from milk to semi solids to solids.

L Sold A Dog I Owned For 3 1/2 Years
Joan of Arc replied to mortonplace's topic in Breeders Community
I agree with Ellz, and I would be asking your solicitor to obtain copies of the vet reports etc so you have all the information. -
Time and time again I log on and see that some poor dog is in strife and several very generous people are stepping in to help him /her. And then it turns into the mandatory bunfight over who gets the money, what happens to the animal, who intends to do what etc etc etc... Get over it. If the bitch isnt chipped its going to be hard to prove ownership anyway. The 'finder' has obviously tried to do the right thing and so has the original poster. AND I might add that Ellz' offer was extremely generous and altruistic. I too would like to offer our services but its still a long way to Albury form Brisbane. We have a litter on the ground leaving in two weeks so dont really need another one at this stage but would help out. However, I am not prepared to put myself or my family in the firing line from people who are determined to see the worst in every situtation. Ellz if you decide to proceed PM me and I will see what I can do to help.

Just thought we might do an update on what we are all feeding and how often. We are feeding breaky at around 7:00 with soaked biscuits (Bonnie puppy), some chicken or beef mince ( only a little, grated cheese and milk and sometimes an egg with it. Lunch is some but less biscuit, mince - chicken or beef - yoghurt and steamed rice and milk. Dinner is biscuit, mince or cold roast chicken, ricotta cheese. If they are hungry they get a little supper of milk and biscuit as we are going to bed at midnight. Tonight I gave them all a little piece of lamb flap to chew on. Sat and watched carefully, when the meat was all striped off I removed the bare bones. We are currently using about 2 lt of milk a day, 1.5 kg mince plus other meat sometimes. About 3 or 4 cups of biscuits before they are soaked and then 500 gm grated cheese a week, plus ricotta cheese.

What a great family, you couldn't ask for better. Took 2hrs of chatting and get to know you time and I'm really happy to put faces with people who wev'e interacted with over the past months. I'm sad to see her go but I know that she will be so well cared for. She ended up falling asleep in the arms of her new owners and the instant bond was magical. I have shead a few tears, along with my 4yr old daughter but we have 3 other pups and 2 adults here to keep us occupied. Chin up - maybe they will keep in touch

Thanks TS, we are hoping to keep one but not sure yet. Trying to stay neutral until owner of sire sees them and then we will decide together - nice to have a second and probably better opinion than mine

but its also a happy day for your baby to be going to a new loving forever home
