Sorry for the loss of baby girl! You can't blame yourself. It's almost impossible to not take your eye of them for a few minutes. We all need 2 of ourselves to do rotating shifts ;)

The "drop" for us is always down in the 36 range. Accurate everytime and labour has started within 12 hours!

Anything will do! A wet one or wash cloth but run it under warm water, although you don't have to. Wipe it gently around from between the legs through to the anus for a couple of minutes. If they need to go they stop fighting and start sort of pushing.

I'm another that think the pups may be too warm. They keep their mouths open and will cry. If your pups seem uncomfortable I always toilet them - just in case. Sometimes mum does a good job with the urine but doesn't lick long or low enough for the poos.

6 days old and all doing well thanks to there wonderful mum Blondie :) Please excuse the whelping box. The bedding does get changed twice a day ;)

A late but big edition to the March litters!' Last night our Blondie have birth to 11 puppies. The xray said 8 so it was a bit unexpected although she was huge. 2 were born still looking waxen but fully formed and not tiny so must have only died recently. To be honest with 9 little mouths to feed and her first litter its not a such a bad thing. That's a lot of babies for a beagle with the average being 4-7. They are only small but very strong and have put on 15-20 each in their first 12-16 hours. 5 Lemons - 4 girls and 1 boy - we wanted a lemon bitch so very happy with that. 4 tris - 2 girls and 2 boys

In between pups being born, put any pups onto mum to suckle, only removing when she starts to get restless for the next birth. If she's agreeable of course.

A torch essential for toileting during first stage labour at night! Best of luck. Exciting but scary :D

My bitch has had 3 sections but none of them have been her fault! The last was elective due to her age. She comes from a line of free whelping bitches. Before mating for the last litter she was declared fit and well by the vet which included bloods as she was 7.5 years. Only one of her daughter's has whelped a litter as yet. She was carrying two puppies - first puppy was huge and breech and got stuck and died unfortunately. Second was a repeat of the first but they managed to get her out and revive her. Four of her daughters will possibly be whelping within the next 12-18 months so will be interesting. Although the genetics contributed from the sire would count equally surely!

Thanks Clyde, my sister is picking up Pearl tomorrow and i for one can't wait to get my hands on her! She is just lovely and im sure she will be very happy here with us until she is ready to be rehomed! Hi Kelscats, I hope you will continue the story of Pearl with updates on who she is doing :)

OMG what a nightmare for you schwarzbear So sorry for the loss of your puppies and continuing struggle with the remaining affected puppy! May I ask how the reation progressed from the rash on the ears? We've got puppies being vaccinated this week with the C3.

I can't help feeling soooo angry at the breeder for leting that puppy go to you in that condition. Even if the puppy is younger than 8 weeks - in fact even if he was only 6 weeks, he doesn't look like a normal healthy 6 week old puppy from any breed in my opinion. He looks like he's been not doing well from birth in which case the breeder should never had sold him to you I've seen other small for age puppies of various breeds and none of them look abnormal, just small. As others have mentioned he should be fed a super premium puppy food with extras. Lots of small meals daily to increase his calorie intake as he will not be able to eat enough food (calories) in 3 meals a day to increase his size/weight. It's great news that the vets have given him the all clear :) Good luck with him!

:D Beagles are great zoomers! My two 8 year olds still do zoomies late in the afternoon. A lot of the time I have 'extras' here and they love to chase each other.

Have to agree with Steve! Maybe we've been lucky but we've never had a bitch miss with a natural mating. Frozen AI - 2 attempts and 2 misses. I guess progesterone if you are not confident in timing. Is the stud dog owner experienced? Maybe leave your bitch with her/him for a few days. Good luck :)

Show beagles have been known to get it, particularly when away from home and bathed late in the day when it is cold. Then then they are confined in a crate or trailer. I recommend blow drying the tail area, both the tail and all around the base. Can't hide it in the ring with beagles as they must have an erect tail :D
