  1. At the risk of bringing the wrath of another bunch of breed fanciers down on me.. me. IN THIS CONTEXT I'd not recommend ANY terrier. The family are looking for a quiet, friendly dog. I've seen way too many noisy, reactive terriers to recommend one IN THIS SITUATION. That goes double for Fox Terriers (Smooth or Wire). Yes, I know there will be a bunch of folk who'll tell me THEIR FT was quiet as a lamb and loved every dog but the odds of getting one that more closely fits the breed standard are good. One of the words used to describe the WHFT breed in the standard is "fearless" and in my experience that's what you're going to get more often than not. That doesn't mean I hate terriers (although its likely that's how it will be interpreted) but if I wanted the best fit for the requirements specified, a terrier would not be on the list. You beat me too it. I don't think it sounds like you hate terriers and obviously from my sig, I adore them, but I also wouldn't reccommend one in this family's situation. Especially not a Fox Terrier.
  2. Oh well, with Ruby having her litter (or lit, I don't think one pup can be classed as a litter), we wouldn't be going anyway now. I don't feel so dissapointed anymore! Hope all those going Sunday have a lovely day, I'm sure the show will be over before it gets too warm.
  3. I'd say she's getting sufficient amounts then.... mine usually look 'skinny' for a day or so before they get that really plump feel, and I don't know whether it's normal or because of the c-section, but all of mine in both litters have lost weight int he first few days before rapidly gaining... Ruby's breeder came over today to see the bub and how we were going, and she said she would top her up as she didn't feel like Ruby had a lot of milk yet, but place her on Ruby before we supp feed. She was happy with how the pup was going, said she looked and seemed strong and well hydrated, she's just small. Ruby is now reluctant to leave the room and is happily letting her feed now. She's still not sure about toileting her yet.
  4. She's not unsettled so much, she's just looking for contact with something live and for the nipple. She's not especially noisy and once she's on, she settles into sucking. I'm just worried she's not getting enough and her belly isn't really looking like its filling up enough if that makes sense.
  5. Sorry jr inoz, my inbox was full but I have deleted some so should be ok now. Not sure what caused it LP but it was exactly the same as last time, we just got the survivor out before it died too. Very happy to at least have her, we just hope she's strong enough to make it. We had samples from Ruby and the dead pups sent off for analysis so maybe we will get some answers. We have Impact and Wombaroo here, not sure if it is worth giving her some. She's got a strong sucking reflex and Ruby has some milk/colostrum when we squeez her nipples, but the baby seems to suckle for a long time and I don't think she's getting much. I don't want her to get weak but I don't want to supplement, I would rather have the stimulation on Ruby to help it come in. Any thoughts? She's only 154 grams after a nice big poop and this is our first litter, so we are a bit nervous, especially with all the issues already.
  6. Good news and bad news here. Introducing Ruby's one and only. Ultrasound showed one strong heartbeat and one weak heartbeat, and couldn't see any others well enough to tell, so the decision was made with the repro specialist to have a caesarean. So this arvo at around 3pm this little fighter, and 5 dead pups in various stages of breaking down were brought into the world, exactly the same as last time except this time we managed to save the one fighter. So far she's going well, strong as, wiggling around and sucking away, but she's only 158grams, so we shall see how she goes. Ruby is ok, she's not sure what to do with the baby so lots of work for Mum and I at the moment. We really hope this little mite makes it through. From two litters, with 11 dead pups in total, one live one would be nice.
  7. Fingers crossed for the little dude, how incredibly scary for you.
  8. Especially after all the lovely weather here in SA lately! I was really looking forward to it too.
  9. Ultrasound at 10am this morning for Ruby to check how the bubs are going. Getting really nervous now.
  10. I don't expect camping fees back. We entered knowing there was a good chance of it being cancelled, although Naracoorte is usually not terribly hot. We entered at our own risk. I feel terribly sorry for the club who has gone to all the effort leading up to it, to have at least two of their shows cancelled. Naracoorte runs lovely shows. South Aussies are used to the hot weather policy and I think most would be aware it would be cancelled with the forcast how it is, or at least checking Dogs SA. ETA: And Vics showing in SA should be aware of the policy too.
  11. Because the Dogs SA grounds are undergoing works at the moment.
  12. Have you been asked "Oh so is he/she blind in that eye?" yet? People with Koolies have to answer that as well. I'm not surprised! Saxonpup - I don't know how an Aussie looks like a cat! That's a new one.
  13. I'm so dissapointed with the weather, I was so looking forward to this weekend away with friends. We had it planned for ages! Not sure if I will go for the Sunday show if its still on, it's under 4 hours for us.
  14. Have you been asked "Oh so is he/she blind in that eye?" yet?
  15. Congratulations LP! I hope you wanted blacks!
  16. Thanks Jr_inoz, we are getting really nervous now. I keep thinking it is all going to go wrong this time too. We set the whelping room up today anyway, just in case. I haven't felt pups move yet either. She has a week, to a week and a half to go.
  17. Congratulations Alfoxton and Underfoot! Leopuppy - you are up next! :D Then us! Ruby is back to the vets on Thursday for another ultrasound to see how things are going.
  18. I still can't decide if I am doing Mt Gambier or Pt Pirie at Easter. I always have this issue! Pirie is closer and much easier for me to get to on my own though, so I am leaning that way for now...
  19. Oh jr-inoz, I don't have any words. I am so, so sorry. I was sure you would have live pups this time around. Congratulations on the babies Armahani.
  20. Don't get an Irish Terrier if: - you can't laugh at yourself - you take life too seriously - you don't want to do any grooming - you don't like a wire coat - you want to be the most important thing in your dog's life - you want a solid recall in your dog - you don't want an animal with prey drive - you don't want to socialise your pup from day one with other dogs - you don't want people calling your dog ugly
  21. Awww! Congratulations on the new bubs, aren't they cute! Hope all is well Armahrni. :crossfingers: :crossfingers: Hope it all goes well! Mum took Ruby in for another ultrasound today and all good and on track!
  22. Fingers crossed they are all ok jr_inoz.
  23. I know what you mean!! With the other girl who lived here up until two days before she whelped, I could feel puppies moving from 7 weeks. Rommy is just over 8 weeks and I can't feel the at all. Makes me paranoid - but the weekly ultrasounds keeps confirming that everything is ok. Just back from the ultrasound - 8 weeks and 2 days - 3 puppies all still looking good. Good heartbeats, not stressed. Elective caesarean on Wednesday. I haven't been getting heaps ready cos after the last failed litter, I didn't want to jinx it. Guess now I can. The whelping box has been set up for a week, but now is time to pull all the other supplies out of the cupboard ready for her puppies. Awesome!
  24. I love the Naracoorte shows, they have such a lovely feel to them. I am looking forward to this year! A bunch of us are camping.
