  1. His ears are perfectly fine, and technically there's nothing that says they both have to be the same in a show dog, although it may not look as nice as both the same. :) I have a girl who I show and is successful with 2 rose ears, and my other girl has two normal forward ears, although occasionally one is sitting sideways like your boy. Thankfully in the ring she sits it forward! :) Its really up to you what you want to do with his ears. If he isn't a show dog, it can be a bit fiddly. to tape or glue them, and sometimes it doesn't work anyway.
  2. Well done everyone! Our new little rising star is our first homebred girl, an Irish Terrier by the name of "Rozebridge First Offence". She was the only pup from the litter, and born via caesarean several days early. She needed supp feeding for some time, so she is a bit special to us. :) Her first shows were last weekend, and she went best baby in group under terrier specialist who commented on how promising Rosie is. :) She was then one of two babies run for baby in show. We are very excited with how she is maturing and over the moon with her first win. :)
  3. People entering a class that is likely to go back in for show, and leaving before it happens. Has happened a few times here with state bred class and I think it is just rude. If you don't want to hang around for "just" a class, enter open.
  4. Friends and I were discussing this a few weeks ago and apparently if I was a dog I would be an Aussie Shepherd, so I think they fit my image pretty well. I'm just not as pretty as Aussies are!
  5. I've heard good things about Golden Grove and the owners are lovely. :)
  6. My boss has/breeds Braccos, they are gorgeous dogs! I am a big fan. :) And their puppies are so cute!
  7. We only showed on Sunday this weekend, Panda has gone up to minor class and managed a reserve on the weekend over some lovely older bitches including her aunty Holly and an import bitch, at just over 6 months old.
  8. Havs are awesome little dogs! He's a cutie!
  9. I love two completely different breeds, Aussie Shepherds are my heart breed but I grew up with and adore Irish Terriers. :) We show both breeds and we just had our first Irish Terrier litter. I plan on breeding Aussies eventually too. Love how different they are, but both breeds are awesome!
  10. Head and teeth x-rays are difficult and correct positioning for them requires funny poisitions which really requires the dog to be anaesthetised rather than held.
  11. I can't imagine anything better than an Aussie, they are my one and only dream breed, but there are other breeds I have thought about or know I will have. The Irish Terriers are a bit of a given, I grew up with them and they hold a very special place in my heart, and I want this breed in my life in the future. They keep me grounded. The Aussies go "I adore you, what can I do for you today?" and boost your ego, the Irish are "Um, nah..." and bring you back down again. :p  I would love a Finnish Lapphund but it would have to be a very special one, a friend/DOLer already has a very specific order from me. :p Hehe. If only. Other breeds I like and might consider in the future would be a Bull Terrier and a Collie Rough, but I think it would have to be black tri. I'm sure there are others but these are the ones that are probably the most likely. :)
  12. It does go both ways. By the end of your 3rd day at a Royal with constant rude comments about your obviously blind dog, your ugly dog, your poor dog because you chopped it's tail off, or the endless people who pat without asking over the top of benches behind your backs, the kids who run in and grab your dog around the neck before you can do anything, the constant worry that someone will steal/poison/injure your dog. It gets a bit tiring and some people get snappy by the end of the day or end of the Royal. There are rude people who show, just the same as there are rude general public. What is described in the OP is rude and weird, just as many of the comments from the general public are. I love Royals, and I love having my dogs/breeds out there for PR. We spend a lot of time with them out on display and interacting with the public, but it is long, tiring and stressful.
  13. This would be the main issue that I could see. Any form of insurance would be expensive, and would probably require special facilities before anything was granted. Your small person is a credit to you SW, she's so well behaved for her age!
  14. Thanks! We think so too. We get so many compliments/comments on her little black eyes, we absolutely love her facial markings. Well, these were the best photos I could find/get--turns out it's hard to get puppies to do what you want in pictures :p. I'll happily accept if you all think she is in fact crossed with corgi, I was just so surprised everyone saw no Aussie shepherd when heaps of the pictures I found of crosses had very similar markings. It's true some could have been wrong themselves, but I did fine some sites that specifically were breeding for ACD X Aussie as a working dog. Aussies are much, much more common in the USA than they are in Australia and turn up in cross breds much more often over there than they do here. I don't really see Aussie, but its always hard with cross breds.
  15. I was wondering about the "whole lot of terrier" think too :) I noted that they used to be nick-named 'the dour Scott'! They can be very fiesty little creatures and they have a huge set of teeth on them. I've seen them living harmoniously as a pack and all getting on and I've also seen some that are very dog aggressive. This. I've met some wonderful ones who I would steal in a heart beat and some who I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Their temperaments seem to be quite varied, anyone interested in one should find a breeder who has the temperament they are looking for. Either way, there is a whole lot of terrier packed inside their little bodies.
  16. I'm another who doesn't see much hint of Aussie in there.
  17. Irish Terriers are red Schnauzers or Mini Airedales. Or just "ugly". One year at the Royal we had one bloke nudge his wife and go "Hey look, it's your mother! It has a beard." I was sitting outside the shops the other night with 5 Aussies (3 blacks, a red merle and a blue merle) and had numerous people ask me what breed were the spotty ones. I explained they were all Australian Shepherds, just different colours. Most people were fine with that. One older gentleman insisted the "spotty" ones were Koolie crosses, even after I told him they were all purebred, registered, Australian Shepherds and were all in town for the dog show, and kept asking if I was sure they weren't crosses. You just have to educate where you can, and laugh about the others. Aussies with different coloured eyes are blind, or husky crosses. Merles are always Koolies or Koolie crosses, and the black tris are always Border Collies or BC crosses. And Aussie people are terrible, terrible people for chopping off their tails.
  18. Well done! Good luck! Baby Frenchies are the cutest!
  19. Another baby in group for Miss Panda over the Easter weekend. :) My babies normally only pick up one baby in group, it seems to be a tradition that my babies only ever get one baby in group each  and then do well through minor/puppy and beyond, but Panda has decided to change this tradition. Hopefully she continues her ways. :) Very proud of her. She's a little dynamite and a very enthusiastic puppy, and so much fun to show. I am having such a ball with her. Even on her naughty days she still makes me laugh.
  20. Another big thumbs up for Matthew. I am another who really appreciates that he is a veterinarian. He may be more expensive than some other pet chiros but you are paying to see a veterinarian who has done a fair bit of extra training, and in that regards, his prices are very, very good. He has been incredibly reasonable with the prices for my girls and he is wonderful with the dogs. He is also reasonable about when to come back and doesn't make you come back numerous times if there's no reason. Holly was in a bad way after coming back from having her litter and he has made a huge difference. I highly doubt we would be doing the winning we are with her if we hadn't of seen him.
  21. Good luck everyone competing over Easter. :)
  22. It is illegal. There are plenty of Rottis out there with tails.
  23. I've heard lots of good things about Marion and Dion is such a lovely guy. Would be my choice for a vet down that way.
  24. My little rising star picked up another baby in group on the weekend from a big lineup of babies. She's 5 months now so is all legs.
  25. Yep, we never get group entries here in SA and rarely get numbers back, just doesn't happen.
