C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Steve replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ummmmm, errrrrrrrrr, don't slap my writs, but why are people that are puppy farmers accredited breeders ?. The problem some of us breeders are having with the scheme is, that we have no desire to stand along side of these so called "accredited" breeders. We say it should be earned not paid for and you of all people should under stand that. It's not the pure bred pups that go out the front door, it's the ones that go out the back door. Cheers. But Oakway none of that breaches the code of conduct and you cant keep on about bad breeders in that scheme because they have proven to be able to get in and stay in - its slanderous to continue to bring these sort of comments on breeders who have joined this scheme. If someone were saying the things that have been said here about registered breeders who are not in that group all hell would be yelling. Cant you see that by this being said here that it makes people who are reading think that the rest who are not accredited must be even worse than these comments have said about the breeders who have joined. If they are not following the code of conduct report them so they are removed but telling people you wont join because the group the CC has set up and is promoting everywhere as being superior is not doing anyone any good. The animal rights, government and RSPCA and even the CC is simply of the opinion that you wont join because you cant. It is being spoken of as progress and a good thing because it was one of the recommendations of the Bateson report. We all know it was meant to be about a different country with a different system but its done - its not going away. Puppy buyers are going to deliberately go after these breeders to buy a puppy and everyone is going to promote them over any other registered purebred breeder - like it or not. It is not logical for you to hold onto that reason for not joining. If you are right and puppy farmers are within this group clearly they are able to be in either group including the one you are in. -

How did you arrive at your statistic of 90%? Who has been involved in this thread who doesnt own a purebred dog? -
No state CC can stop a breeder from doing anything they want with any dog which is not registered. No state CC can make any breeder who breeds crossbred dogs regsitered litters which are not from regsitered purebred dogs - in fact they will not allow them to. They are not doing anything against the law or the state codes of conduct.

Ive picked dozen of dogs and puppies up and never - not once have I been asked for ID or to sign anything. In fact I wait at the arrivals gate and watch as the luggage and dog is unloaded and walk in pick it up off the luggage cart just as everyone else does with their own bags and take it to the car. Ive never been questioned or stopped.Thats at Wagga. If I send one to a major airport they usually have to sign but rarely ID. A couple of years ago I sent a beagle pup off - and it should have been in Sydney in 2 hours. I had a phone call it didnt arrive and no one knew where it was . Turned out they had human organs being transported at the last minute and the policy was no animals when these were on board After 3 or 4 phone calls I spoke with someone who knew where the pup was . The lady who handled the luggage check in at the airport told me - not to worry she had him out and let him run around the run way while she was eating her lunch and shared her chicken sandwhich with him! raved on about how beautiful he was and how he was like a tourist attraction with everyone who saw him wanting to hold him. Ive never forgotten that. Mine always go in a new crate which the new owner keeps with a water bowl and spout to fill it clipped on the door and luggage ties.

This to me suggest that you receive them because you are attending? we have had name badges made up for dogzonline members who will be attending the Dog owners Choice Awards so they will stand out in the crowd but for those of you who are not going but who may attend a dogz do in the future these are great I have no idea though. Yes - I thought this at the beginning, and then started thinking that perhaps these were made up for attending people on their request. . I don't know. I'm confused, . Everybody can have a dogz name badge whether they are attending the awards or not but because the awards are on if they want to be identified at the awards as who they are on dogz the badges will do that for them just as they will if they attend any get together with dogz people. If you want one you will need to order one.We would prefer it if those who visit dogz stand out in the crowd at the awards so everyone knows who is who but if someone doesnt want to say who they are here thats O.K. too. Whether you wear a badge which identifies who you are on dogz or not is your choice but if you do want to you will need to order and pay via the link.
-
You dont have to have a purebred to be a member! Ill get someone to look at the links - thank you.
-
Yes you do. Ive no idea who is who or how many from dogz have bought tickets. The nominations come in real names and the tickets are now sold out and they have been bought in real names with no reference to dogz names so if you want one you will have to order one so we can get the orders organised.
-
For those that re getting them as they are attending the Awards, is there a choice of name on them or will it be just real name only?? You have a choice of dogz name or real name or both whether you are attending or not.

Here are the numbers ANKC pup registration 1990 87,768 pups registered 2010 66,040 pups registered In the past 20 years, a drop of 21,728 ANKC pups. Yet the number of mix bred, cross bred and unregistered pups born in Australia each year has increased dramatically (some say by 100's of thousands a year) which is very hard to pin down as they are all unregistered BYB breeders and puppy fams. There is no question that the constant attacks on purebred dogs and the (inadvertant??) promotion of puppy farms and BYB by animal rights groups, the unis, the government, the AVA may well bring an end to purebred dogs in Australia. Is it not possible that the drop of ANKC reg pups is due to the ANKC organisations and breed clubs weeding out those breeders who shouldn't have been breeding anyway? Or stopping breeders from doing a litter that should have never of been done in the first place? Don,t you think that a lot of the decrease could be due to: The introduction of limited registration. (Stopping pet owners from registering the pups from "pet only" parents) The introduction of having to do a basic course in animal husbandry to gain a prefix and registering pups The introduction of various mandatory health tests? The introduction of various optional health testing that should be mandatory. A greater knowledge of the genetics involved in breeding dogs by breeders. Then you have the dissemination of information now. With the electronic world that we live in now, information is so much easier to access. With this knowledge, breeding choices have become more informed. Just a different line of thought to ponder. Kraigoaks I have pondered all of your points and while I do think there are some other influences I dont think the ones you have sited are any I would say I agree have had such a drastic impact.

We wont be offering these for too long as we have to get them done and dusted in one batch and in time for the awards. Julie

Well said - clear and uncomplicated. The only choice really that the stud dog owner should have is to decide is if they consider that the bitch is worthy - if not then no mating - no money...... Just another example of how breeders these days are trying to complicate the whole system and restrict new people from getting into the world of breeding/showing etc. If we dont have new people coming into the industry then where will we be in 10-20 years. Pure Dog Breeders must be realistic otherwise we open the door for the BYB's and Puppy Farms to be the only source for people to get pups in the future and we will see many of the pure breeds disappear. Yep.

In case there is any confusion you dont ned to be an MDBA member but you do need to create a login so you can order from the on line store.

In conjunction with Troy - DOGZONLINE who is our awards principal sponsor we have had name badges made up for dogzonline members who will be attending the Dog owners Choice Awards so they will stand out in the crowd but for those of you who are not going but who may attend a dogz do in the future these are great. You have a choice of having your own real name or only your dogz name on them. they are classy - the photo doesnt do them justice and made to last. You can collect them at the awards or have them mailed to you. You only have a short window to order these. http://www.mdba.net.au/shop.html?page=shop...;category_id=30

How else could it work if you dont have someone in there orchestrating the change/ The current committee is a good choice. Any changes to the constitution have to be voted on anyway. At the risk of being accused of having no right to an opinion on a state I dont live in - looks like its a reasonable deal to me and a fair start.

I have some anti body thingy which makes it impossible for me to be immune to rubella. Ive had it a dozen times and had the needle for it over and over but everytime Im tested for my immunity to rubella I have none. Turns out 2 of my 4 daughters are the same - dont know if the 4 boys are or not because its not such a big deal for boys and they havent been tested for antibodies.
-
Its a known fact that some breeds of dogs have a much higher chance of getting parvo than some others - usually they are black and tan. but immunity issues in general are most definitely able to be inherited. Jean Dodds - Top notch canine immunologist maintained that if breeders saw anything , anything that might indicate a pup was less immune than another that regardless of how the pup looked the one which had shown no sysmptoms should be the one kept. The example she used was a minor reaction 4 to 8 weeks after a vaccination - maybe a mild skin itch etc should be seen as a marker and that pup should be over looked for breeding. This way you select for a tougher immune system. Look up parvo black and tan via google.

In most situations we go for foster care but the owners can still visit and take the dogs out for walks etc However, we have also been able to help find temporary accommodation etc too. Dont under estimate our support system or our ability to help. You will need to go to our website and fill out the application for assistance and we will see what we can do. www.mdbapacers.org.au and the menu with forms for applications for assistance are on the right hand menu. Depends on the breed too I think. Its much easier and enjoyable to own a pack of beagles and they are very happy running and living together - sharing everything without a problem. Most of my Maremmas are in the paddock working with stock but definitely 2 house Maremma is my limit. I know people who own tiny dogs like chis often have dozens of them without a problem too.
