NEXT PROBLEM. The owner had knew reconstruction surgery done on monday and is not very mobile and is un able to drive for the next month. Missty needed a follow up post op exam on Monday too but the owner has been out of action - we have asked the vet for a home visit with a promise of paying but the owner has been told vets dont do these home visits - so we need someone to pick the owner and the dog up and take them to the vet for the post op check. Any FEMALE in the Acacia Ridge area interested ? And the owner is pretty desperate for cutlery and crockery, linen pots pans etc. Miss beligerant has agreed to be our drop off point and deliver any donations to her for us if anyone has any of these sort of items they dont need.

Im not ready to discount it yet and if the AVA are asking for independent data separate to the chip companies - that says something. The research is credible and has been peer reviewed in the main

Latest News On Syringomyelia In Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Takes two sides I think - We could have said "Thanks Bet we know this and we are onto it" too. Mistakes from both sides I think. -
Large shops source from puppy farms. That is the only way they can keep an constant supply of pups. 3 times purchase price for shops in busy shopping centres. 2 times purchase price in smaller centres. Small independent stores double the purchase price. If the pup has been there too long, price will reduce. Sllight difference between pure and x bred dogs, but that is the rule of thumb Don't believe me? ir's easy to find out. Same way you would find out what any store pays for anything. You will find I am correct. None of this is important, if RSPCA continues to push to ban puppy farms, the gov MAY ban the sale of pups from pet shops. Only way to do it. Without pet shops, half or more than half of puppy farms trade would disappear and if they were unprofitable, they would close. They are businesses, NOT dog lovers Nothing will happen because the government will not grasp the nettle and ban the sales of pups in pet shops. Neither will the RSPCA push for it. Are you saying that the only way pet shops can source their puppies is by buying from someone who keeps their dogs in substandard conditions? The RSPCA is not pushing to ban commercial breeders more than they are any other breeder. Law changes which have been promised to curb people breeding in sub standard conditions dont mention pet shops. Government can do anything but in this country before they do they will need to consider federal laws and facts and not emotive animal rights led propoganda which is so easy to refute.Way before they ban them they will introduce more laws to regulate them and take away the element of anonymity of the breeder in my opinion. Either way other people can carry on if they like about more laws and chant "ban the sales of pets in pet shops" but Im not backing any law changes and Im looking for alternatives for the purposes of this discussion.

Im not interested in pushing for law changes - that may come much much later but we have some ideas which will work it from the other end. Im reluctant to speak about the finer details publicly until we are further down the line and ready to splash it around a bit and get some umph behind it. One arm will look at how to help the tenant find pet friendly accommodation more easily and the other aimed at landlords - so that its a revolution rather than trying to give the landlord no choices - because that will never work. There's no way that as a landlord Im going to have to allow people to own pets and rent my house if I dont want to and I see pushing for laws which will try to do this a complete waste of time. If someone else wants to go that way - good for them but for me its redneck stuff and not based in reality and the MDBA will not be part of that strategy. We need people who can do a bit of research and write articles which will be proof read and checked for grammar spelling and presentation etc we also will need brochures designed and someone who knows a bit about media and marketing. That will do for now but there will be more. Im going to ask Troy for a private little forum which only those who are going to be working on this will be able to see - if thats not O.K. then we will set up something like that on the MDBA site.

Sorry I didnt save the links - but its pretty easy to find I only sort of gave it all a bit of a glance because of this conversation which was about a pretty big group of dog owners who feel they have whats needed to launch a class action because their dogs and cats have cancer which they say is due to a government giving them no choice on what they do with their property and the chip it has caused the disease.I saw a lot on research done with humans and the howl about them being put into disabled or alzheimers patients etc. What I saw looked pretty shocking and convincing but I havent had the time to really study it all to really come to a sure opinion on the whole issue. If you're going to go looking why not start a thread and share anything you find? Edited to add the AVA has said that traditionally adverse reactions to chips have been referred to the companies and there is a fair potential for the possible issues to be hushed up so they now have their own adverse reaction microchip data base. http://www.antichips.com/cancer/index.html..._Article_Tables

No point in beating each other up. What works for one doesnt for someone else - no need to make it go to hell because we make it personal. -
Much evidence? Heaps

Are you in a rush?

Microchip pups/dogs and owners. Link the chips ... Actually Ive been yakking on about microchips being a big part of the answer too until someone contacted me a couple of weeks ago to chat as they are mounting a class action against a state government for making chipping compulsory as there is so much evidence it causes cancer. :D

I really don't care where you are from Steve, I resent elitist snobby statements that judge people on their postcode like Shazzapug does and has their head in the sand by making statements that people from wealthy suburbs don't dump their dogs. ;) I thought she was joking :D . Im glad you dont care where Im from -
O.K. Ams I will give you a yell if I dont have a closer offer. thanks Julie

Nup - no new laws.

I'm not a member but I understand they have been challenging the legality of tenancy agreements which prevent resident pets. Here's a link to info Renting If there are shared goals, it might be worth exploring further/sharing information/resources even if different strategies are ultimately followed. Di Im not that fussed on Barking mad because I dont think being a rebel and challenging laws etc is the answer. Im thinking of coming at it from a different angle. I dont want the MDBA to be seen as a bunch of rednecks.

I cant see what Barking mad are doing re renting with animals - can you fill us in a bit.?

I think - if we stop making them feel they are constantly under attack causing them to get mad and dig the heels in we should take a wider view of it. The goal is to have pet shops stop selling live animals. So far we have been told that they source their puppies from puppy farms - they say they dont and Im not seeing any evidence to prove they are - Keeping in mind the definition of a puppy farm is someone who breeds dogs in sub standard conditions - though based on history and human nature I have no doubt that some do. Buying sick puny puppies is not good for business anyway. First - We need information on how much a pet shop makes out of a puppy sale - if its just the puppy we are looking at. Not what the buyer also buys to go with the puppy. Then we need to reward and promote those pet shops which dont sell live animals unless the breeder is involved in the sale. We need to look at ways we can generate business for pet shops to replace the money they are making from selling live animals. For those who refuse to budge we need to put together strategies to try to cover some of the things they would normally get if they were purchasing from a breeder. Ive got lots of ideas on what these can be but I dont think banging a drum and screeching for new laws to stop sales of live pets in pet shops backed up by figures which are at best guesswork and easily refuted is the answer. Time we made friends with them.

Ive done my share in working with child abuse anyway. Right here and right now we have a task and its about stopping animal abuse and making the future better for our dogs so being concerned about what else in society which is rotten will or will not continue isnt our job in this regard. We all know there will always be idiots who remain on the edge - our job is to find solutions which dont include law changes which bring us as close as possible for the perfect world we envisage for us and our animals. It can be done. There is no such thing as a problem without a solution and as we work together, discuss , debate and participate the solution will come.

So do I. Its how to do that most efficiently and effectively with no money that we have to work through

You are about to find out.
