  1. lovely pics I'm guessing this is Tag? Lovely light in his eyes in the 2nd shot!
  2. nice shots black cockies are so cool :D
  3. great thread ruth! I've loved reading about everyones' dogs! :p I did write 10 facts about Chester but he insisted that he wanted to do it himself, and he usually gets his way eventually, one of his nicknames is "Brat Boy." I realised he was a lot more succinct than me. I did have to do a little translating/editing so you can understand what he’s on about lol TEN facts about Chester from Chester 1. I love to run in a straight line with mum, she tells me this is one of the reasons she chose me, we often go running – it’s one of our special times together. Another reason resulted in my getting a whole live mouse to swallow on my 6mths birth anniversary. She says I have ratting in my ancestry, but she wasn’t expecting me to catch and swallow that little snack whole. I don’t know what she was thinking I was going to do, she’d been egging me on for weeks about the mice. It’s different when it’s family though, I loved watching the ratties that stayed here for a while, and I only thought about eating them! 2. Mum used to play this game with me a lot where I’d do all these silly things in anticipation of the magic sound (editors’ note: clicker). As soon as I heard the magic sound I could run over to her and she’d give me a bit of food. I’m not picky, I’ll eat anything (see #1) but she’d always save the best bits for the magic sound game. She still gets it out now and again, but in the mean time I can still play this game and if I do it exactly right and look as adoring as I can she will run to the dispensing machine (editors’ note: fridge) and I’ll get something good! 3. Mum sometimes calls me a cat. When she comes home from being away for a long time I follow her to where we sleep at night and wait on the bed until she says it’s okay to get some good rubbing time in. I love to rub all around her legs, and in-between, and while she tries to walk away, I go with her, and sometimes if it’s really good I’ll stretch out right between her legs and she’ll lean over and give me a belly rub to die for! I also do a mambo to the right kind of butt rub :-) 4. I don’t like the dirt, or mud, or smelly stinky stuff on the ground and I wouldn’t dream of rolling in any muck like I see my older sister do! And the toilet has always been outside, even when I was a youngun I got that one right! I think a dog should pay attention to his hygiene, a good lick-bath to keep my coat shiny and legs clean is a must. No water is required, can’t stand the stuff on my skin! 5. I may look like I’m shivering in the corner, all tucked up in sleep, but I don’t need an extra skin (editors' note: coat), that just irritates me and I can’t get it off, even if I annoy her by going in and out of the backyard house (editors’ note: kennel) trying to rub it off. I love sleeping next to her under the covers. I hate it when she pulls them back before the light has even touched the sky! 6. My favourite game is something she calls tug-o-war. I just have to grab the end of a rope and not let go! It’s easiest with big sister, and I’ve taught little sister how to play properly, my big brother always has to take everything so seriously and just takes it off me and walks away. Mum’s okay to play tug with, but not my favourite, she can be a little too tricky. I’ll run and pick up a toy too if mum asks, but my sisters and brother always get in the way, so I only like to do that game with mum by herself, and if I’m lucky she’ll play a chaseys game with me too, she often ends the game when I want to do this, so I try to avoid the temptation. 7. Everyone loves me. It’s just a fact. I see it as soon as I meet someone I haven’t met before. I can just watch them and they’ll always come over and give me some words and pets. I am sometimes disappointed when a new person doesn’t acknowledge my handsome and adorable self. I am really surprised they are able to resist me. 8. I don’t like to say much. My sisters are both complainers, whinging about one thing or another, I keep my voice primed for those important occasions like a serious breach of our territory. 9. I was born with a little bump on the top of my head, it’s not serious, just the fur grows in different directions, one of mum’s friends says I have a cone head, mum thinks it’s cute. 10. I will try out anything at least once. I’m happy to do most things asked of me and especially if food is involved. A giggle will do sometimes. I love to get a smile or a little giggle out of mum! Makes everything worthwhile. :p
  4. wow! total cuteness particularly like that first shot
  5. great pics! what fun! I think I'm becoming partial to Jane (what breed/s is she?)
  6. cool! Great pics and what a great trip to remember forever
  7. oh thanks again guys. He's back to his old self again for sure, no more walking into walls, me, or the other dogs, eating the bucket instead of his food 'cause he never quite figured out the bucket can go over his bowl rather than in it, and no more stitches!! I took him to the park with Jamie straight from the vet 'scuse his old ground-down teeth but check out his smile and not really wanting to hang around for photos "want to go sniff NOW"
  8. oh cool! I like the first one - once I figured out what it was
  9. oh I love Snot the last 2 are my favs
  10. cool! the 2nd panda bear shot made me laugh, they really look like they are enjoying lunch and I love polar bears, my fav of all the bears! Great shots of them playing
  11. haha cool you guys!! see what did I tell you about originality? - bec, that's the same shot I took, minus the shirt and swap the dog for a dalmatian I named mine: "The unhappy white collar worker" or there's another I've titled: "The Mad Scientist" I think I may submit one of mine ... not sure, last year I took heaps of practise shots then changed everything, took more shots, and ended up submitting the later ones, but regretted not going with the first idea I actually had to do some research on how to tie a tie - went via google, then youtube had a video ... how's that for dedication! oh and I had to make a special trip to buy the tie in the first place! And I bought the back-drop (black sheet)! Is that Charch? How did he enjoy the photoshoot, he looks pretty happy to me eta: oops he obviously enjoyed himself with liver treats So do your guys Bindi
  12. oh I know all the ideas I have will have been done, originality is almost impossible I think I did have fun with some shooting today, the results weren't wow, but I'm sure I'll manage to go with something, if not I can see clearer where I can make some improvements I can highly recommend just taking some pics ... if that's any help to anyone ... even if you think they've been done
  13. I know! I got the email that uploading has now started It might be worth going and having a look and seeing what others are doing, or have a look at the flickr group - they may be able to help with ideas canonphoto5 flickr group I have ideas, not brilliant but ideas just the same. Today is the first day the weather has co-operated enough to be able to really give them a real go! But, we'll see :D
  14. Happy Birthday Luka What a great bunch of pics, and Luka is one lucky handsome boy :D
  15. not sure what caused it, it's one of those things, it was coming off the spleen so it could have just started out as a small bleed that just kept going. Yup, removing it is curative so it's fantastic news :D He's still looking a little sad in his bucket head, and walking into doorways doesn't seem as much painful as just annoying for him, he's so much better, happier and bouncy at dinner time again, he has a very funny bouncy dance at dinner time - I tried to keep him settled but it's good to see he's feeling better these were taken yesterday afternoon hmm, if looks could kill he looks more border collie with his ears all squashed he's definitely feeling better thanks everyone ;)
  16. really nice you are gonna have some fun with that!
  17. thank you all for your well wishes, he's certainly getting a lion's share of hugs redangel - glad you caught Mimi's problem and she's living life full again - it's so nice to read that michael - thanks :D Well, the vet rang this afternoon the results are that it was a hematoma ... blood clot ... not a tumour at all! the best news possible! the vet was very pleased, as am I obviously, but you know, I had a feeling it was going to be positive The first night after surgery was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, he cried every time he moved - and he's been following me around everywhere! But, he was good last night and today he's let me go out of his sight for more than a minute or 2. And his stitches are looking better
  18. I hang around here more often my poor boy has been through a bit the past fortnight. He is 12.5 years old. I had to take him to the vet for a re-script of his arthritis pain medication, as it had been 6mths since our last visit, and I knew the vets would want to do a check-up before re-filling the script ... so I gave him a bath/shower: the vet noticed a lump in his abdomen and took some blood for testing that day notice the white fur-line towards his back legs is quite straight rather than the usual tuck? almost down to his knees: it was either liver or spleen the blood revealed normal liver function so we ordered an x-ray the morning of x-rays, keeping happy: Monday just past, and the x-ray and ultrasound showed a large mass on his spleen, but no spread to his chest the operation went ahead on Friday to remove the mass and his spleen it was approximately 9cm wide and weighed in at 2.5kg! the evening before the operation: and his shaved belly: he stayed in over night on fluids and I picked him up Saturday afternoon pathology on what kind of mass was removed will be determined before the end of the next week and stitches out in 10 days the vets and vet nurses have been fantastic and I can't thank them enough for the effort they put in Texas has been great through the whole process, didn't need sedation for the x-ray/ultrasounds and everyone at the clinic wanted to take him home, even with the barking the hour before I went to pick him up I hardly ever hear him bark since he's been home he's been quite sore though, and the bucket on his head to stop him licking/biting at his stitches has me cringing everytime he walks into a doorway as far as him showing signs before I took him to the vet, I've only really thought about them in retrospect 1. he was refusing to go for walks - which I put down to his arthritis 2. I noticed an enlarged belly - which I put down to not getting his walks - I just thought he was getting fat :D 3. his weight loss - I didn't really think anything of when the vet asked because I'd dropped his food because of the enlarged belly but mostly he has been his usual happy self, no noticable change in water consumption or eliminations, bouncy when I got him excited, and especially around dinner time. I feel a little "OMG how did I miss a 2.5kg mass?" but with him behaving so normally, I'm not sure I would have done anything differently. I've seen him before really down and hot, refusing food and taken him to emergency and that turned out to be a nasty grass seed in his face - he hasn't behaved like that at all through this - it's so hard to see. I did a lot of research into liver cancers, and then spleen cancers in dogs (with this link being very useful dol ) and it didn't make for very happy reading, but I just kept looking at Texas and he just hasn't showed any other signs that would indicate malignancy, so I'm expecting a positive result with the pathology. My poor old boy is looking very scrawny at the moment though, and all I want to do is feed him up, but I have to do it slowly so he's getting a few small meals a day, he had a tummy tuck and lost 2.5kg in a day I'm hoping with that huge mass out of him that he'll be a lot more comfortable and keen to get out on walks again after he recovers fully, 'cause he's always enjoyed his walks! I don't want to disturb him too much so haven't taken pics of his stitched belly, but here's his sad "bucket-head" face from last night:
  19. wow, what a handsome man! That first shot is brilliant
  20. yup, I'll be up for it, I went to Werribee last month but haven't gotten around to posting any
  21. thanks kirislin! you took that pic too didn't you?
  22. Tree kangaroo I think, they're pretty goofy looking aren't they. Thanks for the clarification. I knew I was going to get that wrong AGAIN!! :D I debated whether it was a tree kangaroo my only excuse - they kinda look like panda faces? or koala's? definitely not kangaroos don't suppose you have a shot of a red panda that I can compare?
