  1. and then leave the house for the next 2 hours because of the smell But the kids love it
  2. F11 - it is much easier to teach a dog how to do things properly the first time than reward for sloppy sits and then change the rules on them and say that is no longer acceptable. If you want to do advance club obedience then it is far better to get it right now than to try and fix it further down the track. Many people get to the advance level and decide they want to go on, but then become disheartened because sloppy sits and drops cost them points - so as I said better to fix it now. However, if you want a pet that sits and downs when asked and don't care how they do it - then continue as you are. PS - My dogs pull like mad on a lead when walking down the street
  3. MG why are you selling it - I thought you needed one according to the other thread - or is it too small?
  4. There are some pretty cheap wire crates around on some of the sites, if you can't borrow one. I agree you will need a wire crate for this length of time and if he is being left alone. As i said you can put him in while while you are watching TV and occasionally drop a treat in the top. He will soon learn that a crate is not a bad place to be. I have 2 crates at home, one with a door attached but permanently open, the other with the door removed and there is always a dog in at least one of them - they put themselves in and are free to come and go as they like.
  5. I suggest you start feeding him in a crate starting tomorrow, let him spend varying amounts of time in a crate while you are home, while you are watching TV, while you go out the back to sit with Mason. This is not a punishment this is how to manage his rehab should he need surgery. You need to start planning now.
  6. I would perhaps caution walking in soft sand
  7. I have to also say that it is us that agonizes over whether to retire them or not - basically they don't care if they have a JDX or a CDX after their names. I have found that once I have made the decision to retire them I have found it very easy to live with and so far I don't feel that I have left making the decision past the point of no return. My retired kids often get to come to training where I do little bits with them and you would think they have won lotto. Good luck at the Nationals if you do get there. I know of a few DOL people who have had dogs out of action for many many months, have gone through a rehab program only to have the same problem on the other leg.
  8. I kept searching for somebody that could help my dog - since he was lame even when I wasn't competing with him, doing nothing wasn't really an option and I wasn't prepared to keep him on long term anti-inflammatories. Thankfully I found a vet that did chiro, acupuncture and massage and the combination of these sees him still competing now. I did try a lot of different treatments, and this has been by far the most effective. I now see her regularly - probably every 4-6 weeks and if he doesn't need anything done then she sends us on our way. Sqiffy sits are the indication to me that he is sore. One of my others kids has hip issues, but was also worried by being in the ring. I opted to retire her as treating her hips wasn't going to help her head problems, so I massage and heat pack her and she has acupuncture when required. I actually think bowen would possibly be better for her as she responds to touch much better than some of my other kids.
  9. One of my toller girls looks like a Yetti, so I have just come back from buying one of those slick and easy block things from the horse shop - $2.50, so I bought 2 of them I will let you know how I get on and if she looks any better. Maybe I need before and after photos.
  10. Yep think Deb was pretty happy and must have texted half the obedience population. Well done mate and well done to Brookie. Looking forward to hearing all the finer details
  11. Mirawee it says they do chilled collections. http://www.siresonice.com.au/brochure.php?mode=services
  12. Mirawee I can recommend Sires on Ice for collection - they come to your house which makes life so much easier for the boy
  13. Going very cheaply one girl dog in season, who screamed her lungs out for most of the night wanting to get to the boys. Today is going to be one very long day at work
  14. Hi Hawksdale I would have to say that most WA DOLers go to ACWA on a Tuesday night. I don't so you will have to wait for someone else to come along and give you some more details. Anyway - hows those puppies of yours going?
  15. http://youtu.be/KLAvcL3bIwc This is Strauss's mum and my new girl Chica out for a run Have a great holiday Amypie and Rubystar
  16. Well done Emery - that certainly made the trip worthwhile - congratulations
  17. LOL Ness if only UDX was like that. From what I have seen its a case of Rooster one week and feather duster the next with each exercise breaking down and having to be rebuilt. And just when you think they have got it.............. they prove you wrong again.
  18. We had out first trial for the year last night and my little man swallowed some yippee beans on the way to the ring. It was his best performance to date, or maybe I should say his most confident performance, all of the exercises were done with enthusiasm and not once did I think whew we were lucky to pass that one. It was like he knew what he was doing Now for the sad bit - he didn't pass - missed a down in distance control, something I would have bet my house on that he would never do - but still tickled pink with what I got and just wish I could bottle it.
  19. I have started tracking with Beans under the guidance of Livertreats - who is making it such a fun game. Because of the snake worry we are only able to track on ovals and grassy verges, but we are still enjoying it Not up to the distances you are doing yet kathq and so far have only done rounded type bends as corners.
  20. Good news RS - let us know how she is when she gets home. Sending BIG hugs to Caffy and Alex as well
  21. HUgs Rubystar - where is she being done? Let us know how she is after surgery we will all be thinking of you both xx
  22. Yesterday I went to Woolies and found they had Australia Day eskies out for half price. I have an esky in my car which had some of my dog gear in and I needed to replace it - so I bought a small one for $5. Last night I went to training and showed my mates - and 5 minutes later I had orders for 4 little eskies and 1 big one. So this morning I went back to Woolies and purchased the 5 eskies, came back to the office and emailed everybody to say I had them. Very quickly - I had an order for 2 more large eskies, so back I go. So everybody comes to work today and comments on all the eskies sitting on my desk, they ask where I got them from and before I know it - the guy sitting next to me goes next door and comes back with a small esky, a large one and an Australia day rug. The guy in the next office buys 2 large and 2 small eskies and the girl next to him buys one of each. I think I may have started something......... So if you need a training esky, or something to put some dog gear in - I can recommend the Woolworths ones for $5 and $10.
  23. Woo HOo kathq to you and Coco - the first pass was a long time coming - but what a terrific way to start off 2012. Dare I mention only a few more for OC
