  1. Chocolatelover, you say "my argument is only with the fact that people are unable to see past their hatred for the RSPCA to have any kind of rational discussion." but earlier in this discusion I said the above quote. There are rspca workers who work at the coalface of rescue and are there for the animals, What worries many of us however, is the agenda at management level. And as for animal rights, dont think that because I oppose many rspca actions that I don't support animal rights - I've been involved in the anti-vivisection movement, anti-battery farm, I'm a vegetarian and avid proponent of conservation. I just want to pursue my passion for my dogs without unfounded persecution. fifi
  2. What is very sad, there are many little country town branches of the rspca who are total legends, they work tirelessly in rescue and often struggle to get support from the parent body. Chocolatelover, we are only cynical because many of us have seen FIRST HAND the dirty tactics used by those in power in the rspca, some wonderful, ethical breeders & rescuers have been hunted, victimised and nearly destroyed by them. fifi
  3. I see you too are a fellow cynic ;) YEP !!! I wonder if all those dear little old rich ladies who have left them massive bequests over the years, ever thought their money would be used to hunt down good people while strays and needy animals are left to fend for themselves. fifi
  4. Lets hope they are turning their attention to REAL cruelty cases, not pursuing ethical breeders to ride the media wave after Crufts. And the money would be better spent on subsidised desexing programmes and closing down puppy farms. fifi
  5. Fran, Bob was a breeder of beautiful GSD's, and a wonderful volunteer at his dog club and the children's hospital where he lived. His posts here were always himself - a gentleman. fifi
  6. I hope these are the culprits, this must be horrific for Bob's family - to relive this again now. To be killed as an innocent bystander, just making a living for your family - there has to be some justice & these gun toting crims locked up. fifi

  9. Yeah, I was stunned at her piccie at the MBDA awards :-) Trish - you look great !!! fifi
  10. Yes she did make it but was a bit of a snob did not even come to say hi to me . Or me! and we were closer So did either of you wander over and say hello to HER ?!!!!! fifi
  11. Yes she did make it but was a bit of a snob did not even come to say hi to me . She was probably sitting in her gazebo, daydreaming about sitting watching the sunset from a swing chair on the verandah of their new country estate All fingers crossed here for you Trish fifi
  12. What a stupid vet, and you can use vets from anywhere, no matter where you live. Many of us travel a long way to vets that know our breeds or are just wonderful vets. Have you started them on goats milk or formula ? baby bottles from the chemist and newborn or premmie teats work well. Yes, most pet suppliers will have formula. And another fan of the cabbage leaves, soak in hot water for a minute to soften then place them on the affected mammary. also get the pups some Protexin, a probiotic to put in their formula to help with gut flora. But if they are showing signs of illness from the mastitis, hold off the protexin and get them straight onto clavulox drops. fifi
  13. Build or buy a dog run, I am totally against dogs being tied up. Have seen dogs hung & strangled by being tied. fifi
  14. My young one's are only with adults for supervised time - me right there. so they learn manners and the adults learn 'gentle'. Pups are so easily injured by rough play. At all other times they are separated, even if only by a chainlink fence. fifi
  15. My understanding is that the strains of parvo around have an incubation of 9-12 days, although I notice that many websites list the exposure to symptoms time frame as 3-10 days. fifi
  16. Mine was the Littlest Hobo from the 60/60's tv show. fifi oh, and Rin TinTin :-)
  17. Great news Hannah, wonderful dedication, wishing you clear sailing from now. Enjoy those beautiful babies, And I think it's time for piccies ?!!! fifi
  18. Thanks for bringing us the results PC and team :-))) fifi
  19. Hello TKS, loooooong time no see :-) you can't hide here eh ?!!! So sad that you have such tragic news to share, goddess speed little Mika. I hope the other parts of your life are happy though ? fifi
  20. Yes, the green one's just inside the very outer leaves (the very outer one's may have some spray residue or something on them I feel.) fifi
  21. You must be so tired Hannah and emotionally wrecked. so much worry for your girl & the babies. I'd get the pups onto the pink slushie asap, and keep up the clavulox drops. With the mum's mammary, you can put some whole outer cabbage leaves in hot water until they are warm & soft, then place them all over the affected mammary. The are a great drawing poultice. hugs fifi
  22. Jules, if Renae has been sent home with the tins of Hills iid, and she doesn't like it (very bland) just mix in a little bit of hot water and mush it around until its like a thick porridge. The warmth brings out any flavour, don't be tempted to add anything, she'll eat when she's hungry. If we have a critical case at work, it either goes home with the vet to her hospital cage in her sunroom, or she pops in quite a few times in the night (lives round the corner) sounds like a tired vet didn't close the cage properly, an accident I hope they have learnt from. but at least they were honest enough to tell you. (or the receptionist just blurted it out !) Some things that happen in human & animal hospitals are just kept quiet. fifi
  23. Lets hope for your sake she's not a four/five month girl !!!! Just keep an eye & nose on her discharge incase its not a season and there's an infection or something. fifi
  24. Sounds like the changes in circumstances have affected her seasons, and she may have been ontime in October & had a split season ? How old is she ? fifi
  25. The girls are experts at surprising us !!!!! when we are waiting they are late, and are early when its most inconvienient !!!!!!! fifi
