  1. :p ;) Huge Congrats Jeanne :D Did anyone get piccies ? those fringies are a buzz fifi
  2. Glad your dog is okay, Hope you are okay too. The 'what could have happened movie' will play in your head for some time, just take some deep breaths, shake your head and remind yourself that IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I have only one rule - ON LEAD the only time that rule is relaxed is in a fully fenced enclosure or an isolated beach. I do not believe in full recall, I only believe in fences & leads. fifi
  3. I do hope we don't end up like some countries where pro handlers and mega advertising bucks often edge out the owner/handlers. A friend in one country said it cost one person in her breed thousands in advertising to maintain their position in their breed. But I still believe that a good owner / handler with a very good dog has a chance, but it does take some doing if you are not a 'face'. I've recently seen some lovely newbies with nice dogs, take out some great fringies :-) fifi
  4. Slushie, we are just relating some funny experiences, not the public in general. Many exhibitors have spent the long hours at Royals, politley fielding questions from literally hundreds of wonderful, curious, interested and lovely passers by, but like anything in life - you have to relate the funny one's that stay with you !! (and I personally love the off kilter one's, have to laugh or you'd go a bit bonkers !) fifi efs
  5. hehehe, I find every 2nd Irishman used to own or know a wolfhound - and it was TWICE as big as those being exhibited !!! They usually tell you the dogs back came up to their chest & exclaim......."he was at least 'dis hoi" !!! fifi
  6. Yep, sitting under the bench sign for IRISH WOLFHOUND years ago........to be firmly told they were WIRE HAIRED GREAT DANES by a 'learned' passer by !! fifi
  7. From my vivid imagination........and knowing how full of knowledge some joe public are.... * oh look...Samoyeds now come in SHORT COAT !! * Yes...they are the albino shepherds ! * Yep, shepherds turn white when they live in the alps ! And no matter HOW BIG your breed banner is........you will still have people insisting it's their version !!! fifi Oh good now we have three sizes. Toy,Mini and now Standard short coat ;) no, no, dear.....those others are just Japanese & German SPRITZERS !!! :D (a nice bubbly drop !!) fifi
  8. Having been through the horror of bloat/GDV here, it rips your heart out to lose them young and so cruelly & suddenly. I'm sorry one of your babies has been lost this way, and saddness also for his owner. run free Sirius...... hugs, fifi

  10. Thanks Sway & Troy - great service ! some of those are hard to source due to some cc's crappy websites !!! fifi eta, the QLD one being the crappiest of all !
  11. OMG winterpaws, LOOK AT HIM NOW.....!!! All choked up here, I so remember how hard you worked to see him through all the treatment. And I do recall my words a little way into his treatment.........*sniff* *sniff*....I smell a foster failure !!!!!!!!!!!!! So squishable - so handsome. SO WELL DONE :-))) fifi
  12. I like them too. Ran out so using Metho instead. Working a treat! Yep, its my 'put on everything' cure all ! Danny has now learned to refrain from showing me any ouchies, he soon learned that the metho dab extends to humans too !! fifi
  13. Also depends on where the semen is coming from. If its capital city to capital city - no problems for chilled, but if there are going to be multiple transfers from an intrastate location, you could be cutting it fine and better off with frozen. fifi
  14. Wound gard :-) available from vets, but its a shelf product available over the counter. Also Neotopic / apex, its a cortisone cream with lignocaine for pain relief, antiseptic & antifungal. it contains a bitterant to deter chewing, again from vets - if your vet has seen your dog they may prescribe it over the counter, otherwise you'll have to have a consult. Not sure if its available through vetnpet direct, my net is so slow atm I can't open their page. also a wash twice a day with a weak iodine/betadine solution, let dry & then apply topical product. people will be horrified, but I'm a huge fan of alcohol swabs, a bit stingy, but dries the spot out & kills bacteria. fifi
  15. Agree with the above.....I was very lucky that Dashiel stayed in the ring after a judge RIPPED HIS TOOTH OUT when she snatched the lead to hurry him in baby sweepies. Luckily the breed judge saw the whole thing and was soooo sweet & gentle with him. I will also stop & wait for the judge to turn back to me before proceeding. a friend's husband was so peeved with the judge looking at the other ring while he was running the dog - he stopped in the middle of his circle and said to the judge........"you ready" ?!! fifi
  16. :-) no one minds a genuine accident - hell, mine have made a swimming pool in some wait rooms on a rare occasion when sick or in pain. Its the flockwits that think its rather amusing that I object to...... It's not like those same people would stand at the reception desk in their GP or hospital & pee........then again......... fifi
  17. Too true. Unlike all the hellish puppy mills operating anonymously in farm sheds over the countryside, I know of at least three within 100km - they sell to the public, and there are a few more that I suspect that ship out to pet shops. No one would ever know they exist, isolated farms, no paper trail of any kind, no COE or regulation. fifi
  18. They surely do, loose dogs and cats, always makes for a colourful morning. especially what I call 'cat trees', the fool that walks in the door with a loose cat in their arms, cat smells the clinic or sees a dog, and tears up the owner like a tree - usual results are: *lost cat if the door was still ajar *nurse swabbing owner with betadine from arms to face *owner & nurse looking like idiots trying to catch loose cat in car park *loose cat in clinic & usual chaos *stern lecture to client on methods of containing cats If someone makes a cat appointment, I always ask if they have a carry cage & offer a loaner if needed. fifi efs
  19. come visit most rural or country town clinics !! fifi
  20. then she really failed, as much as humanly possible, you have a duty of care to protect other clients & their animals. And your vet nurse obviously had the opportunity to take control of the situation & didn't. Sometimes the culture of a practice depends on the vet or practice manager if there is one, some nurses aren't game to say boo in case they get into trouble. fifi
  21. Warls, have you worked in a busy clinic ? Your idea is good in theory - pretty hard to have 100% compliance. One can have signs up the ying yang, be proactive & very vocal till the cows come home, pounce on people as soon as they walk in the door, have leads at the door for client use, try and head people off if you see their dog loose in the car park, run to the door with a cat cage....... but there are still those that will wander in with a loose animal. fifi
  22. I agree, but you don't know they are offlead until they come barrelling through through the door !!! And in a single nurse practice, you are often busy in another area, and go straight to reception when you hear the door, giving the loose dog a few seconds head start !! we are trying to educate our clients :-)) most a wonderful though. fifi
  23. I regularly get the ones who waltz in with their offlead dog, it lifts its leg on the counter / chair / door, before I can slap a lead on it, and the owner has a good belly laugh & says..."he always does that when we get here"....... arrrrrgggghhhh !! And I'm not including the one's who's dogs are scared, anxious, unwell who have an accident, just the morons who think its amusing....usually blokes who would consider having their male desexed a personal attack on their own nuts. fifi
  24. Hop in here: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=105955 great piccies and wolfhound chat here on dogzonline (DOL) fifi
