  1. Thanks again dancinbcs, I found it confusing with apparent different UOM to work out if they were the same :) I could have of course contacted the company myself, but you've confirmed if for me now!
  2. Thanks dancinbcs. How did you work out the dosage? Is g/kg the same as mg? The dog product says "One level scoop (included) = 2.5 g Contains: Rosa Canina (Rosehip) fruit powder 1000 g/kg" and the human powder product says "Each dosage scoop contains Rosa canina (Rosehip) fruit powder 500mg containing GOPO" and capsules "Each capsule contains Rosa canina L (rosehip) fruit powder 500mg containing GOPO". What does the L mean?
  3. The website only seems to have powder? Can you get the RHV Canine as a capsule? I often don't feed meals that you can add powder to easily (chicken frames) so find that I forget to give powders regularly. If I could shove a capsule down his throat daily, I'd be much more likely to give it every day. eta. can I just get the human form, although that seems to have GOPO, whatever that is?
  4. Aww, Polo is a proud Daddy! I love hearing how his pups are going, there's always a feeling of responsibility that the pups turn out as nice as they 'should' Always enjoy reading your training updates too RV. It sounds so different to how we've done things with Polo and just confirms my extremely limited knowledge of training dogs for field work :) I've had Polo out in the paddocks once this year, he did well and hasn't forgotten a thing :) The birds were extremely toey, so I was very happy with his steadiness. I hope to get out there again soon now my car issues have been fixed! I'm not sure if we'll get to Victoria for trials this year though
  5. Has anyone used these front attach harnesses on a dog they later did (or did at the same time) tracking with? Having seen how effective they are on a young border colie that had to be the worst puller I have seen, I am tempted to try it out for certain situations with my own dogs. However, will they learn not to pull in a tracking harness??
  6. I have a friend named Jenny adopt a young dog named Benny, she quickly changed the dogs name to something very different :) I knew a Labrador that was named Buck, and at times in the field it was hard to tell if he was calling Buck or something else, especially when things weren't going right  Know a man named Jack who had a dog named Jill :) Dog names are personal decisions and I try not to let other people influence my choice. If you like it, then go for it :) Oh, I named the pups without much thought in the litter I raised 10 years ago and was suprised at how many owners kept the names I gave them. They were then incorporated into their registered names. I will give more thought into pet names of pups next time!!
  7. I'm still going through the photos, I've been kept a bit busy this week!! But, here's a handsome Rocket pic :)
  8. Good luck to all those trialing over Easter! The NSW Gundog Society had the first NSW trials of the season last weekend, and my first time as trial secretary for a retrieving trial. We all seemed to survive :D I know at least one DOLer had some success with their young black and white GSP Novice was so large I'm wodering if there were a few more DOLers there?? It really was a great entry for NSW trials with lots of different breeds represented and doing well. A good sign for the sport. I took the plunge and entered Polo in his first All Age stake. He was no way ready, we really have done very little training since he got his RRD but I figured I was going to be there anyway and if he got a bird he would be happy as Larry :D He got through the first run despite trying to go out on the first bird of the triple He then manage to pick up all three birds of the next run but had unfortuantely had run out of points by the time I eventually got him through the blackeberries to the two bird. I was still chuffed with what he did and am inspired to put some training in. We'll see how long that lasts...
  9. I had a splenectomy done on a 13 year old dog in 2011. The vet was confident he would be fine for the operation and he did come through it OK, but his recovery was not as quick and smooth as would be expected on a younger dog. However I would not hesitate having a splenectomy done on a dog, regardless of age, if there was a suspicious mass and they were in otherwise good health. If it is indeed a haemangiosarcoma (and I have the same questions as labadore on how cancer has already been diagnosed?) then you are a little bit lucky in that it has been discovered before rupture, which is often the first indication owners get of this terrible agressive cancer. By removing the spleen you remove the chance of it bleeding, however unfortauntely tumours will more than likley appear elsewhere. Chemotherapy has had some success in extending the life of dogs with haemangiosarcoma, but generally not as effective as with lymphoma. Hopefully you get some good news today! Really hoping the mass is a Haemangioma (my boys small lesion was a haematoma, but we had other reasons to worry it was something else).
  10. You could a n/a option in each category :)
  11. Maybe give options for multiple votes in the one category? I have one dog on the bed, one in a crate and one in their own bed, all in my room :)
  12. and this isn't just a problem with Vizslas....can also happen to GSP, Weis, etc even Pointers who have always had a full length tail.......I have had a bitch that broke her tail (last 3 joints) very badly, doing the same thing Of course it's not, I know of a Dalmatian who had to have part of it's tail amputated for the same reason
  13. The initial bleeding split occured after she hit her tail on walls and doorways in my house with her enthusiastic wagging of a tail with a thin whippy end. Generally hitting it on things in her environment caused the hair to break/wear off first, and then without protection the split. She has since injured it up while training (retrieving), again in the house (mine and firends) and in a friends backyard. With Vizslas, the ideal length to prevent further tail injury generally is the previously docked length. I would certainly ask for a 1/4 off amputation if it came to it. I do know of at least one Vizsla who had to undergo two amputation surgeries because the vet was too conservative initially I doubt my vet would do an amputation on a dobermann to their traditional length for the same tail tip injury, but I'm sure some showies and breeders have found ones that do.
  14. You need to look outside Group 2 a bit more often Dougie. It's called Field Trialling and quail are central to the sport. :) And just how many of the previously docked breeds are from group 3 Nearly all breeds of dog that compete in Utility Field Trials are a traditionally docked breed - Bracco, Brittany, GSP, GWP, Vizsla, Wirehaired Vizsla, Weimaraner, Italian Spinone. The spaniel breeds that can compete in the Spaniel & Retriever field trials are traditionally docked - Cocker, Am Cocker, Clumber, English Springer, Field, Welsh Springer, Sussex. eta. Docking is not limited to nearly complete removal of the tail. Most of the above gundogs traditionally had 1/4 to 2/3 of their tail removed. Indeed many people I meet do not even realise that my older Vizsla is docked at all, but it makes all the difference. Huh? I couldn't give you a percentage, I doubt anyone could! I'm in the very situation of having a young dog of a previsouly docked breed that is suffering ongoing tail issues which may well require amputation. She was intended to compete in several ANKC sporting events, as well as the show ring. She may not be affected by this motion due to her DOB, but my next dog may well be.
  15. Wording from ANKC regs: So I would conclude the correct wording is Supreme Champion.
  16. There's theraputic and then there's snipping a bit of the dog's tail off to get a better set in the show ring, which is what the motion is about. It may be what it's about, but it will affect both. There are already laws to prevent "snipping a bit of the dog's tail off to get a better set in the show ring", lets have them enforced! By passing this motion, dogs that have had their tails amputated for theraputic reasons will not be able to be exhibited in any ANKC event, not just showing. I can trial a dog in agility, obedinece etc. that has one eye or one ear or three legs, but wouldn't be able to trial a dog with a shortened tail, done for legitimate reasons! What a joke.
  17. Not sure about mature, but my GSP which is from strong working stock was ready to work and compete far younger than any other dog I've had. He was/is feral in other ways but his ability to focus on his job when required from a very young age did amaze me.
  18. Showpony, is this what you're alking about with the sleeping area? Wanderer Gazebo Hub Dome Tent - 3 person Looks great!
  19. I have a couple of these paracord collars Heavy Hauler Duck Band Dog Collar (hoping the link works!). It doesn't have the name tag incorporated into the collar, however I use Boomerang Collar tags which I can slide onto buckle collars. I like the look of the collar and have found the paracord to be strong, it has withstood my 30kg GSP pulling on it madly. Unfortunately it does get smelly with water exposure though, so I might have to go back to the poly nylon ones for my water keen GSP.
  20. No, I have never had a vet apparently charge more due to insurance. I have two dogs insured and two uninsured and see no difference in costs for same or similar treatments. A couple of years ago I had to treat two dogs for the same thing, one insured and one not and the vet did put the medication on the bill of the insured dog instead of the other (they shared one container of tablets), nothing was jacked up price wise though. If someone was claiming that their vet was charging more for an insured pet, especially to the extent your fb friend is, I'd want to see itimised receipts for both animals before coming to any conclusion. "Similar treatment" can have very different costs for very good reasons. I certainly hope there aren't vets charging more just because an animal is insured.
  21. Have you tried Optimmune ointment? It is expensive, but can work wonders for a dog with dry eye. I used it on my boy with good results.
