  1. Dr Sandra Hassett at Animal Medical Centre in Phillip http://www.animalmedicalcentre.com.au/index.php?view=pageView&pageid=43 I and many others have x-rays taken by Sandra for scoring, she knows what she's doing.
  2. What rubbish!! Plenty of dogs have started agility at 3+ years and been very succesful at the sport. In fact at 3 you might find him easier to train as he'll probably be more settled and sensible than an adolescent Vizsla :)
  3. The ANKC doesn't run any dog sport competitions. Training (or breed) clubs affiliated with their State ANKC Body run trials. I'm not sure how it's done in every other state, but here the club running the trial provides or hires the equipment. I don't think the ANKC owns any dog sport equipment? Our State Body certainly doesn't for the sports I'm involved in. Our training club that runs agility and obedience trials also has flyball trials and owns their own eqipment so if it became an ANKC sport rather than an AFA affiliated sport, the equipment is there. When you say titles, I assume you're referring to ANKC recognised titles. If AFA is still running trials surely you can stil get titles recognised by the AFA? The dogs achievements are recognised by titles still, just not as ANKC titles and with all the ANKC bagging going on is that such a bad thing? There are Agility, Retrieving, Field, Lure Coursing and perhaps Herding and other?? organisations that run seperate to the ANKC and have their own titles. There is nothing stoppping people from promoting the fact their dogs have these titles is there? I see two options if AFA affiliation with the ANKC is not going to happen. Carry on as before there was any ANKC affiliation, continue with the AFA and their competitions and titles OR get Flyball recognised as an ANKC sport just as agility, obedience, rally dwd etc. etc. are and not through an affiliation with another organisation. It is not up to the ANKC to provide equipment and run trials, they are done through clubs. Get the rules for the sport and rules for accrediting judges recognised, just like every other sport. Then it's up to the State Bodies to accredit judges, but again, the push has to come from the interested parties not the ANKC.
  4. How did I miss this!!!! Congratulations TSD & Em Fantastic result :) For some reason the Novice and Restricted Sunday results haven't been posted on AWRC so I assumed there were no finishers A greta weekend for the 'non-Labs' across the gundog sports around Australia

  6. I like a 5 year gap, especially for competition dogs, and currently have a 10 year old, a 5 year old and a 15 week old (plus a part time 12 year old :)). My dogs are my pets first, but I do compete in various sports and keep that in mind when adding dogs. I find that the first few years are intense in training, and so important to get right. I want to be able to dedicate that time to just one dog. By 5 they have good foundations and are heading towards their peak and maintenance in training and competition. At 10 they are heading to retirement. In my current situation that spacing also sees me pretty constantly at my dog limit! I's also like to avoid having several old dogs at once, they are a lot of work and money and I like to give the oldies everything they need and deserve. However things don't always go to plan, and I'd always have more than one dog. So if something terrible happened and I was down to just one dog, or one 'young' dog, I'd add another sooner. Of course, there's those times when you can't resist a certain puppy, even if the timing may not be ideal :)
  7. I don't know for just assessment but I had two dogs collected late last year by Sires On Ice and for collection, freeze and analysis, including 12 months storage it was $440 per dog.
  8. Sheesh, they'll let anyone on here! Way to go Em & TSD!! You'll be taking the blue ribbons in no time now!! Oops!! Sounds like something I would do....
  9. I have purchased rabbit fur toys/tugs from http://web.mac.com/mtrebino/Site/Welcome.html Service is great and no problem getting them through customs.
  10. I have a strong preference for boys. I find they suit me better in regards to training and living with, they are less complicated and more honest IMO. It usually suits me well when after a pup as it seems girls are always in high demand. However, I now have a girl pup and I'm hoping I'll have to eat my words :)
  11. Isn't there already a Southern Gundog Society?
  12. Sounds great Wundahoo, I only asked about the ANKC as I think wgaa run pointing breeds field trials in WA? Definitely think you should post this AWRC now :)
  13. Congratulations for getting the trials going in WA, are you intending to run ANKC evets? Although I don't have any elible dogs for S&R Trials, I enjoyed the S&R Field Trial I attended a couple of years ago, great to see the dogs work I hope you gets lots of people and dogs turn up. Have you considered posting this notice to the Australian Working Retriever bulletin board too?
  14. :cheer: Awesome result Ruby and RubyStar!!! You must be over the moon :D Keep smiling!!!
  15. Yes, if you could call it that We just call it "paid training" :p I like to call it a "donation to the club" I'm still recovering from "the rabbit incident" :D I like to call it a nice day in the country :D
  16. Polo certainly thinks so anyway :) Did you trial this weekend??
  17. :cheer: Congratulations!!! Sounds like a fantastic weekend TSD and Em!
  18. Thought about trying retrieving trials? You can really watch him do what he was bred to do there Dock diving is great fun for the water loving dogs too :)
  19. Sounds like a great day TSD, despite the dead bunny!! Good luck tomorrow! I ran the boys in our local RATG today and Polo did his best to fail!! He was absolutely busting out of his skin when he knew what was going on and just couldn't contain himself. He stood up on the stay (left in a sit), he gave a mighty yip then went on a detour in the water when something grabbed his attention on the easy walk up, broke on the 1st mark of the double (got him back fairly quick), tried to switch on the double and struggled on the second leg of the double!! I felt for sure we'd failed with that crappy effort but he scraped a 76
  20. The 10 second version? With the Hungarian Vizsla I say that they are a pointer, like a Weimaraner or German Shorthaired Pointer and I look for the light bulb go on with either of those breeds, usually they know one of them. I then explain they are basically bred to so the same as the gsp/weimaraner, but originate from Hungary and are slightly smaller and a different colour. For the Whippet, small greyhound usually does the trick :)
  21. What she said Congrats to all on fantastic results, of all sorts!
  22. Great stuff RS! So glad you got so many positives out of the day too :D See, it's not that scary after all!!
  23. My dogs will get breakfast the morning of a trial day. Not a huge breakfast as I don't want them running on a full stomach, but for a physically demanding day I like them to have some energy source. They also get lunch if it's a Retrieving or Field trial as they are extremely physical activities and I know I need the energy, so my dogs can have it too :) They get lots of treats during a day of agility.
