  1. Okay ready to be flamed but the dog is now 11 yrs old. How is it eye sight? Does it have good hearing??? Has it ever worn a muzzle ??? keeping in mind some dogs totally freak when wearing one & at 11 yrs you need to keep in mind the stress it may cause . Your dog simply may not walk with a muzzle on so you will need to introduce it it slowly & see how the dog accepts it.
  2. I wouldn't be driving when there is options in summer. Will you take your other dog with you?? I would simply have it flown over & spend the extra time introducing at home. My dogs fly yearly & i have never had an issue.Quick/simply & air conned. I always pick flights appropriate for travelling not not human convience
  3. If doing vegas & you like horse events look out for those they have amazing horse events in vegas plus dog shows
  4. Depends on what breeds you wish to see & the time off year you go I have been to Crufts & wouldn't go again. very hard to watch breed judging as males/females are in sep rings & you need good friends to save front row seats (which we had).Very much a giant royal show with alot of stalls aimed at the public. Westminster in the US is also a benched show & you need to buy tickets. Crufts & Westminster you need to buy group judging tickets . Eukanunba is in december & back to Florida next year & again you need tickets We did all 4 days of Crufts. There are certainly shows in the US that are free & some super cluster shows during the year
  5. My boy did awful on EP holistic, coat was crap & loose stools.I only stuck with it through am odd growth stage because it was doing the job but couldn't wait to be able to change. I did about 3 months when all was settled & swapped back to my normal diet & his coat is super & nice poop
  6. Wonderful another owner who feels rules don't apply to them . This is why taking dogs away is getting harder because people break the rules
  7. Needless to say, I am now terrified of staffies. Not exactly wary i would say. The heading 2 big staffies bit of an over kill & the dogs presumed to be evil before they have even moved in. If these where poodles the OP wouldn't be wanting to have a chat??
  8. Just remember Scotties aren't always angels & give just as good as any Staffy. I have meet many a fiesty Scottie who where willing to do just the same. We board countless Staffies & never had an issue except for the over excitement. I totally agree with pockets If you do go over be careful what you say & imply because to be honest i would be totally *** off if someone came over about my dogs implying due to the breed & incident that mine will be the same or could be . You would then need to be sure your dog doesn't start any fence issues where the table could be turned back to you. You can't presume every staffy is the same & you will come across Staffies in every day life & your body language will rub off onto your dog so you need to be the confident leader your dog needs not create added insecurities If the fence isn't secure then fix it but that shouldn't happen just because there staffies.
  9. Has it always been horses allowed?? From many newspaper stories & TV items it would seem some horse beaches are becoming just that after dog owners couldn't work in harmony & allowed there dogs to harass the horses .
  10. So if someone doesnt honour their contract to spay but breed instead would you want to know? No breeder is going to spay an 8 week old GD puppy and you couldnt know if there was an agreement in place or not. If it were mie I would want to know and I would give them a serve to make me feel better but reality is there isnt anything to be done about it and its probably better to let it go. We follow up the with all our puppy owners ,we have an age stated in our paperwork & if we haven't heard back after a set time we follow up. If a breeder is interested they will ring & see where things stand. We have a 100% success rate on all our pups being spayed it isn't hard to keep track of pups & do follow ups. Without knowing what agreements have been made with the breeder you can't very well phone up & give them a mouthful.
  11. Offleash doesn't mean a free to do what ever.Off leash means an area you can exercise your dog under effective control off leash not to annoy the other people using the area. You allowed your dog to run for these dogs & it would seem without calling her back or having effective control. The owner isn't to now how your dog will react. Big or small makes no difference ,if your happy to allow your dog to " then you need to accept you will be abused or your dog will get some sort of foot/hand action.
  12. I would say don't bother. The breeder could have spayed prior or had it part of it.s puppy sales. Alll our LR pups must be spayed we have a breed highly sort after by BYB & DD
  13. Looking at the photos she has given the schnauzers owl eyes & trimmed the middle of the beard off Groomers should now better & that takes years to regrow & isn't how the breed should be groomed . If they do it with schnauzers chances are they will do it with an Airedale
  14. Doggy chiro or bowen would be my first port of call especially if he has shown signs prior to soreness, vet will either give more pain meds or want to x ray . My old boy gets stiff necks due to his arthritis. We do warm packs on the sore area & above & it does give relief but we do bowen for any muscle soreness
  15. Our grp has a simple rule if you wish to share regularly you must either help set up or pack up. We all learnt very quickly about the borrowers who had it easy & turned up late & left early. Some will say you will set up anyway but if people do share just keep in mind the effort those people went to
  16. We do full time grooming but are booked till mid Feb . I use to handle Airedales in the ring
  17. are you wanting clipped or hand stripped ?? Or are you working on the coat & want the feet /bum/ears tidied up ??
  18. Didn't need to report they got the message very quickly & it is the only time it has ever happened in 25 plus years of showing. The main thing to remember is if your unsure just ask
  19. Now we're on to the gazebo squatters Actually i can add a good story here. I always set up the day before & when the gates open the day of the show take all the crap down & go home(i live 5 mins from the grounds) finish the kennels ,do the dogs up etc etc. One show i turned up to find my stuff had been taken out of my set up & new residents had moved in. Lets just say it was a very "Not happy Jan moment especially when they had trouble finding my gear
  20. I have never had issues in SA & i am in another grp to those mentioned. Found them all very inviting considering i was comp to them & did win I have only done SA twice in the last 3 yrs but prior to that quite regulary & setting up in varying area.s. In WA we don't have spot dummy spits because as already mentioned first in best dressed & those who set up front row do so because they have the facilities to shade there dogs otherwise you would be setted in the sun all day. The main whingers are those who complain about those using the shades as they can't see but they are the people who never provide shade for there dogs & borrow others or set up so close to your shade to use the shade from the tents that they pretty much should have just set up in the tent. I have told some people to to move when they have set up so close to my stuff & there is spaces available fo rlike 20 oz trails but they don't bring anything for there dogs. One person even tied there dog on my shade legs & couldn't see the issue.
  21. Does your dogs breeder have any recommendations. What breed some vets are better with some breeds than others
  22. Contact dogs SA but most head down at 6am to set up on friday .
  23. Why has the vet asked you to change?? What diet did the breeder recommend ?? We have had no success feeding advance to our minis,it makes them itch like crazy. If your breeder suggested a good diet then i would stick to that or discuss any issues with them as they now there lines & the breed the best
  24. You would have to be a full member & the dog would would be leased into your name for the agreed time frame which will be placed on the back of the rego form before being transferred. It clearly states start/end. Not many lease anymore but prefer to do co own/joint so just be clear with the people what the long term plan is. I have leased & i co own my dogs with no issues
  25. I agree with many things BUT people also need to allow the pup to get to now there new owners, you can rush out & socialize all you want but if the pup isn't comfy in its new surroundings then the whole process of doing things to early when the pup isn't ready will also result in failure. You need to access how well the pup has settled into the new home aswell & take small steps than giant leaps. I work in the dog industry i have come across many dogs who where rushed to early into socializing & the dogs have suffered for it . For many it works well & for others it doesn't. Many read books about this critical stage & that critical stage & get told what they must achieve through the ages but it doesn't apply to every dog/breed & situation. It isn't a one rule fits all things & as a breeder i now from some of our pups that some have taken a tad longer to adjust & others have been instant ease but we always apply the individual rule here. If anything as a groomer i would stress importance on teaching it to be brushed correctly from day 1 & to enjoy being groomed because the Malts have to be the worst for being nasty when not trained to be brushed & then brought in as matted messes . As your breeder how to brush & the correct tools & also ask there opinion of what they find works well with the breed for socializing because i now in our varying breeds the same rules don't apply
