  1. There is show classes run on tuesday & thursday night.2 seperate classes on thursdays. Well worth the effort.I presuming the first show isnt the royal but the open shows afterwards??
  2. My view i would sooner the dog be shown nude than with a coat that looks like it needs to come out & all itty bitty If its coming out the quicker you get it out the better it will look. After that what sway said
  3. The layer & comb method will work well. When we get collies in for grooming this is what you do & the easiets way.Once out easy peasy maintance
  4. When this time comes its important as owners not to be selfish. We should never prolong a dogs suffering to make it easier for us. The sad reality is this is part of owning pets & there comes a time where you must return that devoted loyalty & unconditional love a dog has given for it to have its wings & no longer suffer. A dog will always struggle to the end to satisfy us & one must remember that. How will you cope, you will, you have to for your children, the other dog & the fact that your lost buddy wouldnt want you to shut down but instead remember all the great times you had & continue your life as a dog owners who gave this one a chance it may never have had. The most important thing for your other dog is not to change anything when the time comes,You can certainly make it far worse by over doing it than simply allowing the daily routine to be normal & take things as they come. My advice would be to decide now what you want done with your little one. Cremetian, buried?? Ask your vet who they suggest or ask people on DOL.Right the message you want & place it into an envelope so when the time comes it is done. There is no answer except be loyal to your dog & let it go when it has too
  5. Just keep brushing but you can use scissors & splice the knots. Not chop out. Gently tease out as much of the matts by hand & find the bulk & with scissors splice the bad parts in the direction of the coat,do alittle & brush /pull apart & continue till out
  6. "see your vet and get her checked, that's what they are trained for." Our vets ask us what tricks we have used. Most vets wouldnt have a clue ,being a vet & actually having alternative knowledge is too different things. Does your girls breathe smell at all?? Is she sterilized??
  7. cavies coat shed all the time so you never stop & if the coat has been clipped then you would have more undercoat than normal.Dont over do the CK though as it can cut the coat when done too much. We use heads & shoulders for humans with great results
  8. yep & i would have alerted the show rep.
  9. Training never ends. All through the ages stages there is something new to train, something to adapt to & things to change for old age. The day anyone stops training there dogs is the day things go wrong.Every day is a training day
  10. which crate. Depends which airline you plan to travel. QANTAS allow collapsible wire crates.Virgin only accept solid wire(not collapsible) or vari kennels(solid plastic). Also depends which states your flying to(.For example the smaller planes can only fit certain sized crates) As for size .It doesnt have to be able to stand up but it must be to turn around & lay down happily. The wooden quarantine crates whilst tall are very narrow
  11. i would be doing pumpkin chicken. Quantity wise doesnt really matter as long as the pumpkin is present. We just cook up a pot at these times & dish it out.Start in small portions building up.I still continue once adding dry until happy
  12. "Some days he's being really obnoxious and biting way too hard and won't be distracted so I walk away and try again later." Dog has won the battle & then has little respect for the human or this aspect. Yes there pups BUT they grow up very quickly & then suddenly the bad habits at 6 mths are no fun,12 moths hits & the owners are desperate. Like Celidah this is the story of our life. We groom dogs that owners have given up on,allowed to get into such a state that there clip offs because little fifi or fido wont stand still or worse still there feral piranhas . They will stand still when your firm but fair. Briberys are usually given for all behaviours because the owners feed them & they dont understand the right from the wrong.Just that being a goose gets rewards To be honest getting another family member to hold still is a better option. Pups arent silly & yes there attention span can be short BUT owners make more excuses for this than is needed.Pups will wiggle BUT a good firm no & get on with it. With our pups we dont piss fart about .At 8 weeks they have there first full groom.
  13. Happens in any breed & yes bitches can be far worse. No one is feed here first & no one is made more special all are equal. Having said that foxies can be annoying in the sense they like to be in your face type of breed & can be fiesty, after all they are terriers . The key is not to allow your young pup to intimidate the little one. There is a difference between playing, laying around & be annoye dtime so its important is anything the little one hasa time out area or safe area it can go too as the pup grows & be patient. Consider crate training your pup so it also can have time out
  14. I wouldnt be rushing in .Time & patience is the way to go & not makinga big deal of it,Your handling skills now will make or break what happens. I dont go to dog parks either. To many Idiots, people who let there dogs off leash but dont come when called or trained in any fashion to be off leash(which breaks the rules anyway)
  15. Personally if im happy with my vet i will stick with them.Having said that i would also wait until the bitch is a good weight/size.
  16. "but at this point she wasn't listening when I said No, she was just so focused on eating the brush I couldn't even start." But remember the treat is doing the same thing, dog isnt listening still & pup is getting older.
  17. Depends how you want her groomed. Most groomers have no probs doing a yank.Generally you just keep them in a puppy clip.Fluffy legs etc etc. If she has a good top coat you wouldnt clip that just shorten her legs for easy pet maintance. The key is get them done regular.
  18. training treats/show ring foods here.roast chook, liver, sausages, cheese, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, roast beef/lamb,steak,csabansi(sp),hot dog,polony,dentabobes/sticks.As there treats there given in moderation & generally show weekends. For everyday training treats what ever is in the fridge. I always try to vary it because something new brings new joy than the same old same. Also use the squeaky rat for training, tennis balls, tuggy
  19. Tail chasing isnt normal at all.In all the years of owning dogs & breeding we have never had a tail chaser & certainly isnt a behaviour you want to encourage.Cute for humans but not for dogs. My first visit would be to a dog chiro/bowen or similiar to much sure there isnt a nerve pinching or a muscle injury that COULD cause the dog to want to chase .If there is no issue there & then it would be time to work on other reasons
  20. I have feed pp salmon for many years. I started to feed my young pup on eagle pack but it wasnt clicking. I won nearly 40kg of selects at a show so my boys are trialling it & thriving(turkey
  21. "I know ... it's just that I left my dog in their care so they can "care" for her - otherwise I would have left her at home" "I thought this would be wonderful for her because she loves running around & playing with other dogs & I wouldn't worry about her being left alone all day in the back yard." You obviously drop her off to run around & play. You more than likely now the risks off a young pup playing. You also signed the waiver without reading. I do hope your girl mends well but the risk was your choice.
  22. The more bribes you give the longer it will take. You will make life much harder when you suddenly realize the dog isnt listening too you because the bribe has taken away from the learning experience. if it tries to bite the brush a simple "No" & continue,if it tries again a firm "no" My current bub (5months) stands for an hour to be blow dried for shows quite happily because pup nows what i expect & then they dont become confused. Grooming is about making it simple not harder
  23. "So what do I do about the jelousy problem? I can't just keep ignoring them both forever?! " You dont reward the bad behaviour but also dont encourage a situation for jealousy to arise until both dogs are happy with each other. St present you need to be smart & make both dogs feel important but on your terms, you cant allow a situation where the older dog wins .If both are sharing very nicely praise & walk away. You must be patient & give both dogs time to adjust especially an older one if there not the best sharers Obviously this boy at present isnt ready to share but you cant pander to him . How did he interact with other dogs prior to the pup coming home?? If on walks was he very social or did he react??
  24. "Regarding BARF patties causing pancreatitis this seems unlikely" If feed the beef ones very possible. In our breed pancreatitis is on the increase due to many trying BARF
