  1. The more bribes you give the longer it will take. You will make life much harder when you suddenly realize the dog isnt listening too you because the bribe has taken away from the learning experience. if it tries to bite the brush a simple "No" & continue,if it tries again a firm "no" My current bub (5months) stands for an hour to be blow dried for shows quite happily because pup nows what i expect & then they dont become confused. Grooming is about making it simple not harder
  2. "So what do I do about the jelousy problem? I can't just keep ignoring them both forever?! " You dont reward the bad behaviour but also dont encourage a situation for jealousy to arise until both dogs are happy with each other. St present you need to be smart & make both dogs feel important but on your terms, you cant allow a situation where the older dog wins .If both are sharing very nicely praise & walk away. You must be patient & give both dogs time to adjust especially an older one if there not the best sharers Obviously this boy at present isnt ready to share but you cant pander to him . How did he interact with other dogs prior to the pup coming home?? If on walks was he very social or did he react??
  3. "Regarding BARF patties causing pancreatitis this seems unlikely" If feed the beef ones very possible. In our breed pancreatitis is on the increase due to many trying BARF
  4. ". Orion wanted to be patted too, but Ghost was getting a bit grumpy every time he came near. So I decided to ignore Orion and keep patting Ghost" Actually you should have stopped patting straight away & walked away. You instantly rewarded your old dog for being grumpy.
  5. When we have our litters our pups run the acre from 6 weeks.(they are the size of a chi at this age) If your yard is puppy safe(no holes etc etc) then size depending you can safely leave out.The routine you set from day one is what the pup adjusts to the best. I would dare say your stumpy baby will go crazy in the laundry & is more the big enough to be outside with the facilities to suit. 8-12 weeks is when there at the most curious stage & at this age they thrive on exploring with all there senses.
  6. If these dogs are trained very well & act with manners then interaction in short spells on lead cant hurt. If these dogs have no clue in boundries then i would be very cautious. My large breeds are taught to lay down to say hello to little dogs as we have big & small at home & they are taught whats acceptable/safe behaviour . My 42 kg boy interacts with pups at 8 weeks that would weigh approx 2-3 kg but he has been educated . Most Bullmastiffs i have had dealings with are very laidback BUT only you now what these dogs are capable off manners wise. I personally wouldnt do 2 danes in one go though. I wouldnt allow play seesions but if there well behaved dogs & there on leads & they have meet & greets there would be no issues there.
  7. roo meat affected my white dog,He developed stain patches all over him & especially the head, face & throat area.6 months latter & its finally vanished. If you are feeding roo this could be a cause
  8. like humans keep fit, good weight.Regular vet visits & when able to see a specialist. Im no expert on murmurs but if it doesnt get worse than you should have a dog that could live a very long & enjoyable life(most likely med free). The problem is murmurs can get worse with age & basically i think its a wait & see thing & just do all you can to insure your pup has the best chance
  9. "or with a better explanation, or with more heart. If you have nothing nice to say, generally it's just as nice to keep your mouth closed. I don't see how you can improve the situation at all with comments like that. No offence, but I don't appreciate it.' I dont care if it was harsh,it is reality .Bones can be very dangerous given unsupervised & you are very lucky. Like Wylie sad they do get stuck to there pallette & pulling them out of a distressed dog isnt easy . Bones arent play toys just like beef hides, pig ears they are all things to be given supervised . Giant marrowbones dont clean the teeth but infact where them down as they are too hard . "I've been giving her the large marrow bones as they are bigger and not so breakable and risky" Sadly you have now learnt that there not .What does your breeder say about marrow bones??
  10. The reason why some foods are given with supervision.
  11. cold weather doesnt mean no walking especially with a large breed active dog. It is very boring sitting there 24/7 so the backyard becomes there amusement park. Walking isnt just about exercise but mental stimulation from there daily routine.
  12. We are booked out till the start of October Canning Vale
  13. Our vet crates the dogs. There is no way i wont my doppy dog slipping around to injure itself .I hate tethering due to the dangers.Having said that we would never leave the dog there that long if tethering was the only option.Having staff watch dogs that arent use to either plus work & do there job is alot to expect.
  14. You can simply feed your dry & just add raw meat,You dont have to go extreme with Barf just do a happy in between. All mine get the dry raw mutton, chicken necks, barf patties but im not convinced complete raw is any better & not all dogs do well on it or are able to maintain there weight. I have a theory if it aint broken dont fix it
  15. "A human hair dryer has heat but insufficient air flow to dry a dog's coat. " Depends on which human one you have. I actually have a great human one which i can dry my setters in the same time as the dog ones ,its just awkward to hold. Im presuming this is a pet owner who isnt going to spend hundreds to blow dry there cavie. In the old days all we had where human hand held
  16. Also many vets are in burbs & also have to meet council requirements due to noise. A dog thats barks non stop is a pain & can set all the other dogs off, create unneeded stress. If your little one is inclined to bark now get on top of it because there is is no need for barking & this is the age you make or break habits whether they be good or bad
  17. Depends what you call ages ;) Spending 2 hrs blow drying haireis is normal for me BUT you must make sure you remove as much water as possible with towels or magnet. The adult cavie i was showing for awhile took just over an hour to dry with a big dryers
  18. Where not charitable anymore & it is working very well .You pay on pick up .No money then we send them off to the ATM machine. To many people just presume if your nice once it can happen again & again. We dont text, phone or anything else, they are handed a date sheet so they have no reason not to forget or phone. We have found the users dont bring business but the good clients are great with word of mouth & that is what its all about. If you have regular no shows you lose income & i very much doubt there handing your name out . Give them the flick & bring in a new clientale that stay & bring new with them
  19. We are all breeds groomers & breeder/exhibitor of minis. Depends how quickly you want groomed though
  20. We have a breed highly prone to pancreatitis & also had a dog suffer an attack . When the dog has an attack it is shocking they are in bad pain, bring up bile, vomit & very flat. This can be a killer & many dogs do die . It is generally created by a very poor diet or sneaking the wrong stuff. The worse situation for these attacks are BBQ when guests sneak the dog the fatty bits & after doing the rounds of many guests some simply cannot deal with the fat overload. It is very easy to reduce the weight.Dogs get fat because there over feed & people sneaking treats they shouldnt have. If it does have pan then you do need a diet low in fat & bland & no treats(schmackos, pig ears all these things help course issues when given too much)
  21. No we dont take fees BUT if they phone to book in we dont squeeze them in or we do mention as you didnt turn up last time & didnt cancel could you do so in future. If we had a consistant client like the one you have we wouldnt do it anymore,it isnt worth the hassle. We often find the no shows are the firt timers or the one who sound suss over the phone which we will note in the book. The genuine ones will often call apologizing
  22. "I have always trained my dogs to lie flat on their sides for general grooming" Great if you are grooming yourself. All my show yanks where taught to lay but as a professional groomer standing up is preferred Standing full stop would be great
  23. Teething & a tad stressed can bring on panting that is tad more than normal
  24. She needs to see an eye specialist who will do a proper eye exam to diagnosis any issues
