  1. For starters your pup is also teething, chewing brings great relief from the teething process plus as mentioned a means off exploring & learning. We have never done this growling stuff.Commands are given from day 1.Dogs are only as good as the communication you give & then you need to understand your dog & become the smart or smarter owners for that individual. The toileting could be a form of insecurity into your expectations & reactions. Lots of toys means very little.Have a play box & place the toys in there ,each day the toys are rotated . Dogs often have a few toys they really like but when you have to many there is no thrill to them . As for puppy preschool many wont take large breed pups at 11 weeks. Seek out obedience clubs in your area as your pup is ready to go at 13 weeks.Do you havea GSD club in your area or similiar. Its ounds like board puppy craving to learn
  2. Go to the vets & see what he says & you can go home & research the drugs & pick up the drugs tomorrow if your happy with the "product warnings". Having said that you also need to weigh up the distress of the ear issue on your bitch & what the outcome will be without AB
  3. Many breeders charge different prices for males/females we dont but i isnt something uncommon
  4. we have an old girl with bad senility we did have her on meds & they help but it gets to a point where it no longer gives them that help. Our girl is 15 & in la la land
  5. some dobes do a smile BUT you really need someone experienced to assist to now whether it is a problem or not.
  6. "If it's a difference btw the dog drinking water and not drinking water, and it's the only occasion you pander to the dog, I really don't think it matters." Actually yes it does ,a genuine reason (there is one medical condition that can be an issue & it isnt nice) & having a better alternative can mean a life long created problem. Pandering to the dog does matter .
  7. Stainless steel bowls can be zappy & noisey .Many dogs can have a dislike to bowls. Having said that it sounds like your pandering to him & his likes .
  8. Your breeder if a good one will give you a diet sheet. If there on email ask for a copy before pick up. All our puppy buyers get there diet sheets 2 weeks before pup is due to go . Science diet isnt one i would ever recommend. Contact your breeder as they may feed partial raw etc etc
  9. "Touch wood, Ollie has never had it (he has never been boarded either, we get a pet sitter in if we all have to go somewhere)..." Kennels only get because someones pet has brought it in. The worse places for it is offleash parks, beach etc etc. It is airborne so any dog can get at any time
  10. "My parents dog stayed at a kennel in Keysborough for 2 days" How long after baording did they show symptons??
  11. The thing you need to understand is playing with her food isnt teaching her what you want. You need to teach her to respect your commands when eating. If she ever ate something she shouldnt & dog that is fearful of food being taken away will gulp quickly . What you are wanting is a dog that is relaxed & content with you being around & that if you need to step in there is no need for panic. I feed 11 dogs together in one area,All know there place & all mind there own business. If something gets stuck we dont piss fart about ,dogs know this. If you want to train your dog then use your obedience commands for eating.Must sit before eating, whilst eating you can offer her a higher value treat where the dog must sit & focus on that treat & reward & then allow dog to eat.It doesnt involve touching the bowl or intimidating its space. Many people make the mistake when talking an item from a dog of not acknowledging there presence,When dogs are chewing bones, chews etc they go into another zone.many people just go in & grab, scare the dog ,dogs reacts person frieghtened . If we need to remove anything here the dogs attention is made & then we remove & praise. If the treat is to be re-given in the desired area it is made fun ,it is made into a training reward game. Food possession can be man made & this is where people need to understand what there training for & basically if there was a problem in the first place. As i say many people over do the food touchy/feely stuff & the dogs dont get the concept so they end with a dog that is frustrated to the point of reaction. Does the dog respect you in other areas?? Does the dog listen & follow your commands well ??
  12. "If she's in trouble we just go and pick her up. " What do you mean by in trouble??
  13. "by allowing a dog to have complete control over their food is asking for problems down track when the pup becomes an adult & is capable of inflicting serious damage." Disagree .Our dogs dont have complete control they have the total respect
  14. It sounds like you need to take a step back for a week & do other related activities that still suit showing. Playing outside & doing free stacks.Nice healing even if not attached to alead. Just go back to basics & voice commands for fun
  15. Dogs here eat in peace. They are given respect that there food is in there bowl & they are given "there time " to eat. Never have we done the food in the bowl stuff & find those who do end up with big problems. In 24 years & having all shapes plus boarding kennel dogs not one has ever tried to growl, snap or bite.Dogs are very trusting but owners must also give there dogs the same respect.
  16. It hasnt been that bad in WA compared to last year.I now one boarding kennel that has it but over all its been very quite thus far in WA
  17. My dog & tinned are used here on special cases. Our 15 year old eats what she decides at her age eating anything is a good day / When the girls come in season one boy gets tinned whatever mixed through as he will nly eat that at that time.otherwise i dont use tin by choice. Our dogs get treats, they dont dictate what they are being feed weekly. All those listed i wouldnt use as adaily diet
  18. Your puppy would either learn to fear the current dog, respect your current dog or to behave in a similiar fashion & stand up for its self. If you where to consider this path you would need to make sure you have a safe area for the old boy .sp that he doesnt feel overwhelmed & the pup doesnt suffer form the old boys reaction to what will be very normal puppy behaviour. I would also consider maybe waiting until your old boy has passed on
  19. All my large breeds pups have been very active at 14 weeks & slepted mainly midday but very active morning & afternoon. I would consider a vet trip just to be happy
  20. 24 years no fleas & dont feed barf. Showdogs, run boarding kennels & grooming. I have a breed that is highly allergic to fleas & we dont flea treat at all .
  21. you dont need mason/pearson for a Tibbie. All you need is a comb & a gentle slicker if you want a brush best value for money the Plush Puppy soft brushes.Runs rings around my MP & i could buy 5 of those for one MO
  22. A friends afghan bitch came in every 3 months & end the end they spayed her,she was a hormal mess despite all attempts to regain a normal cycle.
  23. You may find his back is out . Not wanting be patted could simply more be a case of not wanting the pain associated with the touch.Just like us when someone goes touch a sunburnt area. Often not wanting feet groomed can be associated witha sore back, shoulders .mild arthritis
  24. I do now of an Irish on it with great success but this dog also has a perfect coat that is worked on regulary
