Show Training & Obedience Training
Dogsfevr replied to BC's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
"Some show people will be horrified " I dont now any show person that would be horrified, the only time show people will add there input is when someone has focused so much on the sit it does it automatically & the dog is very confused.I have done both but i made sure the dog was very offay with "stand" & then added the sit. The healing can be an issue if the dog doesnt understand show/obedience.The problem with the close heel is the dog looks up & it often alters the dogs front movement so when the dog runs in the ring in the heel position you often see the flip/flop front instead of reach so its important to define show run -
Also sonsider wild birds can carry disease so i would be wary in encouraging them to much plus it can become a nuisance. The person in the back street started to feed the birds & would end up with so many there the noise & poop was over the top. I have gundogs any bird that lands in the backyard does so at its own risk. Some havent left ,others have been lucky but i would also be awar that Boxers are a high risk breed for bloat?gastric torsion & you dont want the dog to become so over whelmed or obseesed with the birds it increarses his risk

Would you like to sleep with aturd in your sleeping area?? I dare say the pup is scratching to go to the loo & if you dont respond to what he is asking your missing part of the crucial toilet training signal which means he will learn that toileting inside is whats expected . The laundry can be a cold, drafty room & not all pups settle into that sort of routine. The crate will stop the sratching but if your not going to address the pups call s for toileting you may have a problem no matter what. There is tough love but there is also educating

What sort of lead are you using. With our pups we will sit out the front Let the pup freee roam on a long leash to get use to the lead, once accepted we then start lead training.Basically dont lower yourself. Make sure the lead is suitable. With your voice tone make the walk fun & enticing, walk backwards if you have too.If pup has a mild tainty wait till its finished & then proceed. If pup does a quick burst make sure you praise .

Our male minis we suggest 5 months. The breed in general is a very clean dog but the biggest leg lifting problem are owners. When they go for walks they stop at every tree etc to let the dog lift its leg.Its a big NoNo with our dogs & even my entire male showdogs of another breed will squat as per taught,i dont encourgae leg lifting & i dont head for the nearest tree ,

I would right a letter to the owner of the practise asking why the vet you saw believes this. I would point out that for 15 yrs you have used that clinic but after the last visit will be seriously considering changing vets due to those comments . I would certainly see what vets are around incase you dont get a good response but i would make the clinic accountable for there staffs comments

I would be inclined to say the groom they did was the normal short all over hairdo that is the norm for that cross. Alos at 9 months the coat is still at the fluffy & floppy stage & most groomers do a nice puppy clip & then the next clip you may try something different or the coat texture can be starting to change. It depends how long they left the legs to how short you wanted it,again with the face, did you want shaved like a dobermanns head or still fluffy with a bit of character?? I wouldnt right off the first groom & i wouldnt attempt to groom the dog unless you believe you can teach it manners at the same time.we groom many dogs that the owners started with & there nightmares. depending on how short you wan you need to too take into account the thickness of the coat.Do it too short you could clip it bald. Clipping isnt a case of use this blade & go for it you need to understand the texture, uderstand the thickness & undercoat & then use a blade that suits the coat for the desired result.

Exercising Dogs Under 2years Of Age
Dogsfevr replied to taters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
"was told by the breeder not to walk him over a kilometer for the first 12 to 18 months of his life." Are you sure they said that distance?? Its crucial not to over do it under 12 months & then ideally build up after 12 months to get the dog in good fitness before just lifting the distance too much. -
remember if your adding to the dry then you need to resize the portions . Are you using R/C for dachshunds or just norman R/C??

The breeders of bulldogs i now have there dogs in there runs until the heat starts up then they go into there day runs/rooms/house. If you have a doggy door & the backyard has shade then i would give the dog access to house & yard. be careful if you shut the dog in with air con because if its evaprotive the humidity can be just as stressful & if refirig you need an are where the dog wont be so cold & get other issues. The key is a good balance

Im not a believer of puppy preschool, its a case of throw all pups in together & go for it & often it is overwhelming for the pup can have a backward affect. Often the dogs attend soon after arriving in there new home & havent yet gained the trust of there new owners & then attend a class where they dont trust anything. Be patient & dont push the pup & dont react to his uninterest.Small steps result in giant advances. With your neighbours pups i would be inclined at present to just do a meet on the front lawn ,be quick ,confidient & walk off with lots of praise & make it fun as the pup gains confidience then allow activities Many dogs need to feel secure in the dogs they meet & some pups are very over bearing & pushy often a well behaved adult is more relaxing but dont panic, make sure pup is well socialized to the outside world.Dont fuss it & join an obedience club . Not all dogs are social butterflies but you dont want any aggression reactions. depending on how pup was raised from the breeder can also have some bearing on how quickly it adjust to the ouside world.

Ima believer if they doing well why change.Who says that brand will be better for your dog. If she is putting weight on then its the quantity but when my dogs are doing well on a product i dont change it

Dogs Feeding Together Any Suggestions?
Dogsfevr replied to BlitznBear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Where is the older one feed??Inside or out?? -
Yep we had a cavie for a few months & we are still finding its hair everywhere LOL The breeder is your best source of advice but to keep the coat lowish shedding you need to put the time in,The same as a goldie, the more your brush the coat thoroughly with a shedding rake the less goldie hair you will get

yep my BIS winner luvs his Pro Plan too

Be consistant but above all be patient ,this dog has gone through a big change in living, house, state etc etc. She will whinged any way thats what Dobes do but make sure the routine is normal. Where did she sleep before you got her??She may be used to sleeping in her crate & at this stage i would stick to the crate & with pups confidience growing start to wean her outside

We have breed minis for 20 plus year & all pets go at 8 weeks or how the weekend falls(if people work) Im not awar of many breeders that keep minis till 12 weeks

I wouldnt bother with the RSPCA course,i would enrol in a good obedience club where you do training until atleast 12 months. Most RSPCA courses are only 6 weeks & you wont learn much at all. Simply sounds like pup has you well trained. When picking up from the bed always make sure the pup is aware your there ,amny people just sort of grab & frieghten young pups, they should never growl but a bad experience can create a reaction so make sure you acknowledge yourself & request the pup to respond. Pups can be stubborn but you must be consistant of the rules & that means all house members. Pups respond to what the humans create, expect & instruct. You dont have a conversation with pup,you use a simple key word with a fun voice tone & reward with praise.make sure you respond to doing the right thing quickly whilst the pup nows what it has done. Cavies are very smart breeds, they are super obedience dogs & luv life to the fulliest. They must be treated like a dog not royalty.

Many wont do mallies due to the condition many owners bring them in. As i said in my pm to the poster the last mallie we did took 2 of us 6 hrs.We charge a very minial price but in reality we could have earnt $150 more in that time Many come in not brushed with clumps falling out & there pants matted so many groomers just dont find grooming them worth the money. Most arent groomed so there not trained & i can tell wrestling with a 50 kg dog is very tiring .time consuming & hard on the body.

We have bathed plenty of wolfies in the hydrobath .Our bath opens at both ends which makes doing giants breeds easy, size isnt a real issue if slightly cramp, there not in there that long & no more cramped than sitting on the backseat of some of the cars the owners turn up in. You dont get giant baths the normal big bath should do a wolfie easily unless you have a giant freak If you want a quick option to help remove odour then just use some old towels, stick them in hot water with shampoo added(hot enought for dog to tolerate),ring out & then use the towels on the dog,This will help pull out the odours etc etc

Does he have any family members that you can educate aswell?? I would also if able take a trained dog to show what your trying to achieve,if communications arent great visually seeing the technique & result can make a huge difference

Never feed beef it causes to many skin issues & runny tummies.Too much beef in our breed can also create stone issues ,we avoid it like the plague

We have a metro cyclinder ,2 liberty stand,1 oldfield force,1 oldfield stand . For the showdogs i like the liberty stand simply due to the fact the air isnt as powerful so it dries the coat softer. In my breed the oldfield force is too harsh & doesnt give me the finish i want. The oldfield force we swear by in the salon & for breeds where getting the water out is important then its super & with the right coat gives a great finish. The oldfield stand i dont like very hard to keep the hose attached,so really needsto be used as a no hands dryer. I have friends that use the liberty stand & ezy coat with no issues at all.

Firstly contact the breeder. Im not sure what conditions you have taken on this dog but the breeder needs to be keeped up to date with what is happening. With any older dogs we place out its on condition if it doesnt work out the dog must be returned.Im not saying this will happen but i guess you need to decide now with the breeders assistance what to do as they now this dog better than anyone else .They may also be aware of someone in the breed in your area that could help you or put you in contact with someone experienced to help assist. The important thing is if you send him back your not giving up sometimes older dogs just dont settle & in the interest of all parties this option can be the best option nothing to be ashamed off. Patence is a virtue with this breed ,they do seem to be very sensitive & get overwhelmed quickly. The dog has gained your trust but its important you dont allow the dog to be your boss. You still need to set the rules & with the dogs trust take small steps for it to accept the children. As said a crate will be a good tool at this stage. The dog needs to learan that those noisey kids are also people they can trust & there quick actions & often need to garb or approach in such a manner can be trusted . The most important thing is the kids need to be involved but it must be fun,not over whelming & little steps to build up a relationship with the kids. For example if the 7 & 9 year old are reading, watching TV quietly this is a great time with no fuss made to allow the pup to just get a feel of what is happening, dont have the dog on your knee & dont make a fuss, speak baby, It will take longer with the 4 yr old so i would try to get the older to involved in little ways.
