  1. Which is the grain free one, all I could find ones with rice & barley, both grains?
  2. Forgot to add, photos of your little pup are a must, especially as he's a BC. :D I also echo kikopup, she's amazing & coming to Sydney in Oct/Nov for a conference.
  3. When I was a child, decades ago, we always got our puppies & kittens at 6 weeks. Even in '93 when I got my 1st BC from a breeder friend, she was only 5 weeks & 5 days old. And in 2000 my son brought home a pup from a BYB workmate at the same age. I think the rules about 8 weeks came in somewhere in between. They were both wonderful dogs to live with but even though my BC went to obedience & agility training 5 times a week she was a little snappy with some dogs. I had to always be aware what she was doing. My present BC was just on 12 weeks when I got her. I would be more concerned that this pup's parents had been cleared for CL, TNS & CEA. Also it's not a good idea to over exercise a pup under 12 months of age because of possible damage to growing joints & bones. Exercising the brain as stated above is the way to go. You can join this site for free & get free downloadable books on puppies too. www.dogstardaily.com
  4. Took my 2 white fluffies to a JS get-together yesterday. Laci certainly hogged the photos. One of the dogs was celebrating his birthday & his mum made liver cake, Laci followed her around hoping to get more than her share.
  5. It appears that 20 more puppies & owners had the chance to win a spot in the Sept course for free. I just saw it on FB.
  6. I was about to ask, did any body do the first one & what the feedback was. Wow, congrats on winning the photo competition. Do you think I would benefit from doing one of the sessions, even though I don't have a puppy ????? As an instructor, I often get asked questions about puppies & their training, but never really know where to start. I have a mile of DVD's on puppy training, but they are mainly to do with future performance dogs. Go to Katrina's youtube page & judge for yourself. These had very basic info as I said in the beginning. Some of these videos were used in the course, the puppy ones of course. Subject info covered things like: How to play with your puppy/handling puppy Toy Safety Managing adolescence Chasing cars or bikes Teach puppy to drop something from it’s mouth & all the basics usually discussed on dog training forums like sit, down & come.
  7. I was lucky enough to win a spot on the 1st Puppy Club with Laci. At 1st I thought it very basic puppy care & training (as I've been involved in an obedience club for 20 years & taken 3 puppies to various puppy pre-schools) but as the weeks went on I could see the value for new puppy owners that maybe hadn't been involved in dog training before. You get a list of socialisation things to do each week, 2 live chat sessions a week where you can ask Kelly & Katrina questions/advice on any problems you are having as well as lots of information on everything you need to know about raising a puppy. For anyone lucky enough to attend the Border Collie Fun Day on Sunday, they were offering the next Puppy Club for 1/2 price at $59.00. Can't get much better than that. Each week they had a photo competition & I was lucky to win a prize in the 4th week.
  8. Lovely photo Esky. Laci will be on her way to Gilgandra for the weekend shows. KatieP picked her up this morning for her much needed spa treatment before the long drive over there. Lets hope she gets some more points towards her Ch. She's a week out of her 1st season & dropping coat so hope it doesn't affect the outcome. They have a good entry of about 12 JS, Laci's grandfather included.
  9. Will definitely have to take the doggies for a walk there, considering it's only 10 - 15 mins away. The last time I was there a few months ago I drove around filling in time, waiting for my son at the dentist at Westmead, no parking there. I stopped at the cafe for a comfort stop & was going to have a coffee but I was too late as they'd closed.
  10. I finally found the post in Border Collie sub forum, hopefully the link works. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/66907-border-collie-pics/page__view__findpost__p__2677640
  11. See next post for some lovely pics of Parramatta Park.
  12. I haven't taken a dog to P'matta park since having April, & I haven't been to Lake P'matta since I was a young girl & neighbours took me. Keep asking hubby to take me there. I didn't know it was off lead. I know when I first joined DOL & started going onto the BC thread one of the regular posters back then took photos of his BC in the most beautiful river spot. I asked him where it was & was surprised it was P'matta Pk. Will try & find them.
  13. Week 2 has just started. There's a forum & fact sheets with lots of useful puppy info. Each week is a photo comp with a different theme. There's also 2 live chats per week & so far I have forgotten about them. Will have to make sure I log in next time. In the 4th week the photo comp theme was action shots. WE WON. with this photo. For the 1st time I gave it a title of Laci, I can fly. We won a soft harness (& a car clip) from Personalised Pet & here she is wearing her prize. One more of my pretty girl.
  14. I don't use either & wouldn't have know until dancinbcs linked it on FB.
  15. Haven't been back here since my last post. Laci didn't get any more points in the next 2 shows at Parkes. There were 4 extra JS entered & KatieP said they were more mature. Not to mention that Laci wouldn't gait properly. She came home with a few ribbons though. I think her next shows will be Gilgandra on the weekend of the 12th & 13th of July, then Kate goes overseas for a few weeks. I would have liked to show her myself while she's away but as I haven't done it before I wouldn't have a clue what to do & not show her to her full potential. :)
  16. The worst part for me is all the things she finds to chew up. I'm forever taking things off her. I swear I don't know where she finds some of the things she comes out with. And with that comes my paranoia of her getting a blockage if she swallows said items. As for all the other things mentioned, yes they are tiring at the time, but as times gone on, those things have got better.
  17. I've only ever stayed at one dog friendly holiday house with the dogs about 5.5 years ago now. Everything was supplied for the humans & dogs except food. The only stipulation was if your dogs were used to being on the furniture to bring your own covers, which I did. Tilba was only 10 mths old at the time & was used to sleeping in her crate. It also stated that the yard was dog friendly, but with a border collie & a larger cross bred dog, no it wasn't. One fence was only large holed chicken wire about waist height. So I couldn't let them outside without me. I think we left it cleaner than when we arrived although it was spotless when we did arrive. I've seen lots of places advertised as dog friendly but dogs are to sleep outside on a covered verandah or dog run. These I avoid, my dogs are used to sleeping inside & would bark & carry on if not allowed to be with us. I would stay at places that said dogs allowed inside but not in bedrooms, carpeted areas etc. That's fine, they would sleep in their crates so as not to wander through the night. Coming home from the 1st BC Nats we did stay overnight at a motel & told the owner we had a dog. He said ok as long as she didn't come inside due to health regulations. Got to say it was the oldest, most dilapidated motel I've ever stayed in, but Tilba was happy to sleep in her crate in the car. The next morning the owner complemented me on my quiet dog.
  18. Laci's breeder, KatieP, took her to Parkes for the weekend. Today she got runner up best of breed against her grandfather who got BOB. Two more shows tomorrow. So proud of her, wish I could have gone, but it's just too far for 2 days. If it wasn't for family commitments we could have made a holiday of it & gone for a week.
  19. BH & NG dry cat food were identical. That is why I suggested it. A pet shop even showed me a order form for BH cat food were the food was called NG. Not sure how that works as they are made by 2 different manufacturers. 20. I used to use the tinned NG for my 1st BC later in life when she became incontinent on wheat. There was only one variety, the pasta one, that I didn't use. She lived the last few years of her life on that & chicken wings. I also used the kibble very occasionally for my son's dog. It used to be readily available at Woolies & was given a thumbs up on an earlier thread on DOL. The packaging has changed since I last bought it & didn't realise it was now hard to get.
  21. Missed this thread before. The 2nd photo is just the cutest one. Here's looking forward to birthday no 3.
  22. Yes, I'd be crating at night. My 8 month old JS pup still sleeps in her crate at night. In fact she will take herself off to bed. :)
