  1. Ah ha! Thanks fbaudry. :) I did come across the Drink Better Bowl in my search for water bowls that may slow down my dog's drinking. They say it also helps with keeping ears dry, but whether that's true I can't say.
  2. You could also try feeding out of kongs or treat (food) dispensing toys. Has a secondary benefit of providing some mental exercise. :)
  3. I know at our club there is a "gap" where people want to continue to socialise with other like-minded people, have some fun with their dogs doing different activities but not get right into the competition side of it. We have had some suggestions of a self-driven group, doing some basic nose work, tracking, maybe a trip to the cross country course or even a walk down the boardwalk to the pet friendly cafe as a group. It continues to go round and around - maybe one day someone will grab it and make it happen Maybe seek out some like-minded people and find someone who does private lessons in your areas of interest? I know a fantastic dog training company that does this in the Illawarra area: http://www.thedogproject.com.au/
  4. It makes Malcolm so windy. OMG. The kibble shape also seems to be an issue, it's like he can't get a good purchase on it and it falls out of his mouth. I have some samples if you'd like them, including two different salmon and sardine ones from memory.
  5. Thank you! Well done with the mat training and brushing, love it. :D
  6. I smacked it into a doorframe when rushing outside to stop Malcolm barking and springboking around due to a whipper snipper. Gave myself a concussion. Perils of having a reactive dog!!
  7. Hahaha good one! No, I walked into the sidewall of our entranceway as I was "going out of view to knock on door or ring doorbell, say hello, wait for 5 seconds then return." Ouch! At least I didn't hit my head again?!
  8. I'm liking your pleasant, albeit carefully managed lifestyles! Hopefully you'll both get some forward momentum soon. Malcolm is slowly coming off Gabapentin as it was making him worse, and we're trying to decide whether to keep trialing meds with our current VB or see a registered specialist at SABS ($$$$!!! ) which was another option put forward. He didn't progress as far as other dogs in the reactive dog classes, but having setups was helpful and we did learn more about him which is good in itself. The aim is to diversify his coping strategies so I'm tasked with teaching him more behaviours beyond his current repertoire of looking at me, sniffing elsewhere and the good old lunge/bark combo. He finished Intermediate Nosework and we're waiting for a spot in Intro to Odour. And we're up to Task 13 with the Protocol. Two to go! Some setbacks and stalling due to two unsuccessful med trials but I guess that's life. No seizures since the first one though, bloods came back normal for him, and he's back in his healthy weight range too. ETA: Wow, task 13 just went really well for a first go! He only reacted when I collided with a wall, and his reaction was just standing on his mat. No loss in focus!
  9. Nice work Perse! This bloke also has Alaskan Kiee Kia (sic) pups for sale in Canberra and 'mini maltese' and chihuahuas for sale in NZ - must be a very busy boy looking after all those puppies across all those continents. EEK - what, no 'teacups' ? I have found a legit teacup Pomeranian!!! CLICK HERE!!! :D (ok maybe not a teacup but close enough, no?)
  10. This one looks up all registries EXCEPT NSW: http://www.petaddress.com.au/ This is the NSW registry: https://www.petregistry.nsw.gov.au/#/
  11. Very kind Tdieridx! Chachi says hello! Are we going to get photos of the little ones, skip?
  12. They actually herd the balls! Great for the herding breeds who don't have access to sheep. :) I see Wagging School is offering it. I think they may also do Nosework just FYI.
  13. Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to mention it as maybe it's more of a future goal, but I completely agree about flyball. I've seen a couple of demonstrations and they are hectic. So much barking and dogs flying around everywhere... hence the name I suppose! Tracking and rally-o sound right up your alley, I bet you two would be great at it. Nosework would also be a great confidence booster for Thistle. It's been amazing seeing dogs come out of their shells in class.
  14. Mine's great! It was purchased 7 years ago and is still going strong, it's never blown over and I don't think it ever would unless there was a tornado, and it didn't crack when put together... I think it's really solid! I did seal the timber right in the beginning and have redone it since, with timber there will always be some upkeep. It may help that the dog in it is only 4kg. ETA: I suppose the wood could be thicker which could be a consideration for a heavier dog, but I still can't see it tipping! :)
  15. You could try Stefmar or Vebo. I don't have those particular kennels (ours is one of the side entrance wooden bunnings ones) so can't comment on warmth etc and I have no idea about sizing. The quality from Vebo should be very good if warm enough. http://www.vebopet.com.au/dog/dog-kennels-and-houses/ http://shop.stefmar.com.au/dogs-cats/kennels-carriers?zenid=bkcf1bqf8mvf1761vjo6qvv1d5 https://www.bunnings.com.au/our-range/garden/landscaping/pet-structures/kennels Budget Pet Products also tend to have good prices https://www.budgetpetproducts.com.au/m/category/dog-products/carriers-kennels/kennels/390/ but unlike Stefmar & Vebo they're QLD based so the shipping costs may cancel it out. Pet stores charge through the nose in comparison BUT some of them price match + add a little discount on top, so that's something to consider.
  16. Maybe give Scent Dogs Australia a call? They travel to a lot of different clubs and may know one that does both or is thinking about it. http://www.scentdogsaustralia.com/index.html
  17. It's definitely available on my end (just added it to a cart). Perhaps it's region specific?
  18. the dog stuff?...I only found the cat food when I checked online... Eta:...spelling... https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/Browse/pet/dog-food-adult-senior?name=applaws-it-s-all-good-dry-dog-food-chicken-turkey&productId=899673 ETA and if you scroll down the lamb & kangaroo is there too. ETA x 2 the fact that a product is on sale can sometimes be a hint that it will be discontinued, but it seems to be there for now.
  19. It's still being sold on Woolworths online. Perhaps it's just not being stocked in your local store.
  20. It sure is! Well done to you and Em, and hopefully the conditions will be better suited next time so Zig can run! It is our last Intermediate class tomorrow! We will be doing another vehicle search. Unfortunately we have to wait until the next round for Intro to Scent as I was silly and didn't book it in quickly enough. We will continue at home though and I have coming soon so that's exciting. He formerly would have been terrified of such a toy and lacked the confidence to give it a go, so I'm excited to see him work it out. I'll still make it easier to start with, but Nosework has really built up his confidence to try new things. :)
  21. I've seen Australian Cattle Dogs do it too, Willem! Actually more often than not when I see a dog carrying a leash or a ball said dog is an ACD. And they're always beautifully behaved and under effective control. Quite a rarity with "off-leash" dogs.
