  1. Ugh. I just deleted it as I was worried about coming across as rude. I don't mean to be rude it's just how I see it and I don't know what else to say.
  2. Have you only paid the deposit? I am more than a little concerned. It sounds like the breeders did not appropriately plan for the litter to be in a situation where they are going on a holiday when the puppies are 6 weeks old. They have not planned for the puppy's critical mental health development. It makes me wonder what else they didn't plan for or do their due diligence with... I know you have put down a deposit but do consider that having a mentally and physically unwell dog is VERY expensive and also very emotionally draining.
  3. I found an old pair of scissor type ones at my parents which was one of my papillon's many clippers (five?!). Agree scissor cut better than guillotine. At least these ones. They slice more than squeeze. I'm in a Facebook group called Nail Maintenace for Dogs and many seem to like Millers Forge brand but prefer dremels. They also have a bunch of useful information files.
  4. I've heard about Seresto, but my dog already wears his regular collar (+name tag) and an adaptil collar. I'm not adding a third! Thank you for the suggestion though. :)
  5. I still have a few months of Advantix left but am wondering myself! What made you go with Bravecto? When I looked at it a while ago I was leaning towards Nexguard on the most likely unscientific basis that if he had a reaction it would be out of his system sooner than Bravecto.
  6. There are, but they aren't heartworm-only ones (to my knowledge... I haven't seen any). For example: Advocate and Sentinal Spectrum do heartworm, fleas and intestinal worms. Interceptor Spectrum does heartworm and intestinal worms. There is a daily heartworm-only tablet. http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/DIMM#.WCZNe_A8aEc Perhaps speak to your vet about your concerns. You can test for MDR1 if you have a breed that may have it.
  7. Some dogs can't have Ivermectin due to a gene variation (MRD1) that makes it dangerous. http://www.animalnetwork.com.au/tests/index.php?testid=11 If the dog has an auto-immune disease, then monthly preventatives may be better (safer) than the injection if you can be trusted to remember them.* *This comes from my vet. She said the data is limited and that getting heartworm is far more dangerous. She was prepared to give the injection to my dog as she said it was safe, but gave me the option as she trusted me to remember monthly preventatives.
  8. ... which contains Ivermectin. Other brands of Ivermectin include Valuheart and Nuheart. :)
  9. Me too! :D I bought our Papillon a cooling mat and a cooling bandana but he disliked both. He preferred to rotisserie himself in front of a fan.
  10. Malcolm's BITZA circa 2009. Explanation: Result: The report then went into - an outline of each breed and what traits I might see from each - anticipated behavioual and personality traits based on a combined score of the three breeds, and - the likelihood of developing particular health conditions They nailed this one (recommended exercises/games): :D The dog:
  11. I make these treats called salmon/tuna fudge/crack. Salmon and tuna might be too fatty, but if you wanted to splash out I wonder if a lean white fish could be substituted. In any case it could well be cheaper per kg than commercial pet treats... the recipe I use makes a LOT of treats (small cubes). Some recipes add garlic or cheese but I keep it simple with just salmon, (oat) flour and eggs. Malcolm considers it extremely high value.
  12. That's great! One thing you could do is record her while you're out to see how she's coping. We borrowed a GoPro when doing this for our dog, others I know set skype to auto connect when called.
  13. FYI while my poo count is decreased it does not stop furry feral visitors racing along my fence or living under my porch ???? Ah damn. I thought they were avoiding the area altogether. Back to seemingly endless training we go...
  14. Adaptil collars contain a pheromone which we can't smell, but which calms dogs when activated by their body heat. Adaptil collars are the complete opposite of the shock or citronella collars that you are thinking of. Those types of collars increase anxiety levels and/or cause depression in dogs, even if they suppress problem barking. Kind of like being terrified but having your mouth taped up so you can't scream. My advice would be to try an Adaptil collar and/or plug-in and to speak to your vet. If you haven't yet chosen a vet, perhaps see one who has an interest in behaviour. The vet may recommend behaviour medicine and/or that you see a veterinary behaviourist. Here's a handout from the Australian Veterinary Association that you may like to read: http://www.ava.com.au/sites/default/files/AVA_website/Separation%20anxiety%20in%20dogs.pdf :) ETA: here's the Adaptil website for further info: http://www.adaptil.com/au/
  15. That is an adorable dog Pepito and yours too Denali.
  16. Better relationships, happier animals: a short free training series http://illis.se/en/better-relationships-happier-animals/
  17. .... and I just discovered what Malcolm has been rampaging about recently. A neighbours' cat (or could be a stray) swanning about on the other side of our fence / footpath. I am going to try the Thistle method.
  18. Thanks Thistle! We are celebrating in a calm, quiet, zen-like fashion. :D
  19. I assume this is for Buddy? If so you may find that he pulls less and is better able to learn as his anxiety comes down. I found that was the case with Malcolm. :)
  20. She is very pretty. Such a glossy coat, too. Congrats on your win. :)
  21. Thank you! :D PS for anyone wondering this took just under six months! Some days or weeks were missed due to life/holidays, but I was mostly consistent. There were some setbacks or perhaps more accurately stalled progress due to a couple of unsuccessful med trials.
  22. We did it! We did it! We did it! Task 15 done and dusted today!!! Of course it doesn't end here as I think this will be a daily thing for us to do to help keep Malcolm's anxiety in check. It seems to have a meditative quality to it for him and we are going to do it in more scenarios. But I'm so freaking proud of my little boy and would like to give a big thanks to everyone who has helped especially The Spotted Devil. You are an awesome person!
