Ugh! Tonight Jedi and I had our last OB trial for the year... He was going so well (winning the ring) and then.... he decided to stand in the down stay! He's started this little habit of whining during the down stay which is progressively starting earlier and earlier in the stay. It's not an anxiety thing - it's a "I know I'm going to get my treat so come on let's hurry up and goooooooooo!" This never happens in training, only in a trial. In training he can do over 6 minutes and there's absolutely no hint of whining. So... My idea to fix his issue is to always do some other type of stay after his down stay in training and try to replicate a trial environment as much as I can... What do people think? Has anyone had a problem like this before?

Oh good I just joined ADAA so this thread has been very timely! I did enjoy naming my dogs something more creative than their usual names

How many ADAA trials are there in NSW each year? I was looking on their website and at the moment it only lists a few... Are there usually more?

Congratulations! I am really disappointed I didn't get to go to those shows. I was entered, but personal circumstances prohibited me from going. Next year

I only did so that I could transfer it to other objects using a verbal cue. But when asking for hand touches themselves, I don't use a verbal.

My comment was in regards to Tollers not being to Flyball training since April... Soaks has one last comp for the year (Jedi's already on his flyball holiday) and then nothing until February for us... It's too hot for our guys to run over summer.

Mmm surely even I can organise myself enough to get it together in that time.......gotta actually go to a training session first Haven't been since April.... ;) how do you survive?! I have withdrawals after missing a week! I can't wait for Sydney Royal! It's gonna be sooooo much fun!

How do you enter? 1. Your dog needs to be registered, either on Limited or Main register or on the Associate Register done through DogsNSW 2. You need to be a member of DogsNSW http://dogsnsw.org.au/about-dogs-nsw/join-dogs-nsw.html 3. Once you're a member of DogsNSW you will be sent a Gazette/Magazine every month with the details of the upcoming trials (all of them, not just obedience). You work out which ones you want to enter, write a cheque for the amount and complete the application form (you will have received a couple of copies from DogsNSW when you joined, but you can also there are also copies that you can print out floating around - just ask someone who trials regularly, they'll probably have one). 4. Send the cheque and application form and a self-addressed envelope (so you can get the number you wear in the ring back in the mail) to the address listed in the gazette for that particular trial.

Jedi's going really well! We're practicing serpentines and threadles at the moment... Lots of fun! No video because I'm soooo lazy! Once the weather fines up I'll drag the video camera with the equipment to the park just for you

Procrastination... yup. ;) I have a few summer projects in mind... For Jedi - scent work (pleeeease let him get it this time!!!!), weavers and OOS stays For Ahsoka - perfect her CCD/Novice stuff and DB

I could put Jedi in novice jumping and not be worried about embarassing myself in front of people I know! Problem is getting there... $$$$$$$$ :D

I wish I could go to a trial on NYE... Sounds way more fun than fireworks!

At the Susan Garrett Obedience lecture last week she gave a solution to that problem... You have the food sitting there and you ask to tug, if they don't tug you move into another room (food stays where it is). Ask to tug... If they don't tug, move farther away into another area of the house. If they don't tug, keep moving farther away until they DO tug (and only when they are tugging at their normal intensity). Then, run back to the food and reward them. Keep repeating that and they should learn that tugging next to the food will get them what they want faster. She says you should never not tug when the dog is having a "don't wanna, don't hafta" moment - you should keep persisting, particularly with puppies as sometimes their tugging behaviour will become extinct if you don't push it.

I believe it was. If that's the case, it is very good news! Another Neuter show today for Jedi... It was funny, the steward and judge almost forgot about us But some more points for Jedi and happily he didn't get group, so we could go home and take cover in the air conditioning! It was sooooo hot!
