That's the other thing I hate - winning dog food. I have no use for it, but yeah - I give it away.

Agreed... It helps pay for the next entry I have too many serving platters and bowls... I could start my own store! :p

Agility Training Talk Thread
TerraNik replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Well Jedi and I had our first agility lesson from our new trainer! We had a great time and had lots of homework to work on! -
That's good to know! Thanks Sas!

It's the Canon 50mm 1.4 - my favourite lens I'm adding to my collection over the next few months though - it's been a long winded process of working out what to get.

Great photos!!!!!!!! -
If Jedi's breeder hadn't done as you are doing t-time, he probably wouldn't be with us. I take my hat off to breeders who have this level of dedication.
-
I don't think you have to qualify for them... I've never entered before but I was planning to with Jedi and Abby... Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I agree with the Staranais - there needs to be consistency. You can also recruit some 'strangers' or even people he knows to help teach him that food carried by others is never something that he's going to get no matter what he does. I'm sure that Shell, Woofen, Agentvee and I are all happy to help out with this. But basically have other people carrying food in their hands or even offering it to him. If he goes for it, the hand closes and goes away and he gets nothing. Obviously this also needs to be paired with him being successful with you. Just an idea of something you might like to try.

As far as I'm aware there's no flyball clubs in Newcastle. The closest would be on the central coast. To compete, the dog must be 12 months of age. Most clubs accept dogs for training from 9-12 months of age. Any breed can do flyball. The comps are run by the Australian Flyball Association so you have you be a member of your club and the AFA. You don't have to be a member of Dogs NSW to compete but if you want to claim your titles, your dog must be registered (main/limited or associate register) and you must be a member of Dogs NSW. Edited to add - http://www.flyball.org.au/ <--- go here, and there's a list of all the clubs and their contact details under "What's going on" and then "Clubs"

Awww Huski! You're not a failure - you have done so well with her!!!!!! Trials are just one part of it all! If it makes you feel better, Jed and I bombed twice today! The first trial we didn't even get through 30 seconds of heelwork ("muuuuuuuuuum! I think a duck has been around here!! Let me go find it!") and the second he just wasn't in the mood and was putting in a rather pathetic effort. We bombed on the recall of all things (he usually gets close to full marks)! Oh well...

Does Your Dog/ Puppy Growl When Playing?
TerraNik replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is like Zero too - give him a tug toy and he'll growl at you while he's tugging. I know what Zero's growl sounds like and it's nothing like the low, deep growl he used to get when he wanted to get aggressive with something. He also growls out of excitement sometimes (like when we go to Nik's house to visit ahsoka, jedi and fable and there's a whole house full of dogs there) - he would never get aggressive with Ahsoka and yet, he will make this growly noise at her. While Soaks is bouncing all over his face ;) Yes she forgot to add that part! -
Does Your Dog/ Puppy Growl When Playing?
TerraNik replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
All three of my dogs are VERY vocal when they play. I've never tried to stop them as I don't see it as something bad. It sounds almost like a conversation Here's an example And here (from about 30 seconds) -
One of your best!
-
We'll see you there next year then (my girl was a week too young this year!)! That's where we did Jedi's ET. A bit of a trek from Sydney But well worth it!
-
Well done everyone!!

My Keeshond completed his ET this year in Vic. We had a ball! Good luck to you!

I love trialling and Jedi loves it! He knows when we are at a trial and he is usually bursting at the seams to get into the ring (and tells me so even after we're done that we should go back in for a second time!) The enthusiasm he shows when he's working with me is what gives me most of my enjoyment. That goes for Soaks, too. I'm a competitive person, which probably adds to why I love trialling, but at the end of the day I just love having a day out with the dogs and being around like-minded friends. Do I think Jed would be happy just hanging out? I don't think so. He's at his happiest when we are doing dog sports, whether that be training or in the ring.
