  1. I bought a piece of the rubber-backed vet bed just over a month ago. I don't have the problem you describe with pee sitting on top, it drains straight through - but I do have bits of rubber peeling off the backing. It's only been through the washing machine maybe half a dozen times. I'm going to stick with the green-backed stuff from now on.
  2. There are already roads to Bundaberg closed. My brother in law tried to get home to Bundaberg (from Brisbane) today and they can't get through. Yeah but I'm talking about Brisbane to Maryborough - according to the RACQ road closures website, there are no issues at the moment. Where did your brother-in-law get stuck? 154 and 167 are current trouble spots (roads closed) - both north of Maryborough.
  3. Don't say that!! We have just booked a motel - no way am I camping on wet, boggy grounds!!
  4. Was building kennel facilities part of the application process? I looked into it for our council area, and it required a full development licence application (thousands of dollars with no guarantee of approval) and we would have to build kennel facilities to strict specifications etc.
  5. Depends on which council you live in - they all have different rules. Mosts areas I know of allow 2 dogs with a permit and up to 4 or 5 dogs with a permit. I don't think there are many (or any) places in QLD where you can have an 'unlimited' number of dogs, breeder or not (unless you have a kennel licence which are difficult and expensive to obtain). In my council, we are allowed up to 4 dogs with a permit. The permit cost me $200, and my rego fees on top of this are $140 per year (that's with 2 desexed dogs and the Dogs QLD discount). QLD is not a very dog-friendly state, IMHO.
  6. Assuming none of the roads between Brissie and Maryborough get closed (which as far as I'm aware is unlikely?) then I will be there.
  7. I am going to do 52 Weeks of Winter Now I just have to figure out how to set up a Flickr album....
  8. I'd be inclined to think so, although I've only owned Sibes myself and not Samoyeds - but it seems there are a lot more Sams doing obedience and agility than there are Sibes. The Sams I have met seem a lot more biddable than Sibes, and keen to please their owners. My Sibes are prey driven, food driven, and extremely intelligent. They are very quick to learn although they usually only do as they are told if they think there's something in it for them (ie food). Secure fencing is a must. My two girls are pretty low maintanence though - they don't get daily walks and I would probably only do a short training session with them about once a week.
  9. Well I have a Neuter dog now and nowhere to show him. Yay for QLD, not
  10. Could you do a Miniature Samoyed? And a Giant Japanese Spitz? I will take a breading pair of each pls ;)
  11. From the GEM Facebook page: "It's production music that was commissioned by GEM. Not available for purchase by the public."
  12. I had one, they are ok. Relatively sturdy. Not as nice as an OKS but then, not as expensive either! The only problem I had with mine is that it was taller than a standard trolley, so it was heavier and trickier to get in/out of my car.
  13. Beautiful!! I might join in next year and do "52 Weeks of Winter"
  14. And I agree with you. My bitch was checked by vets and xrayed a day before she flew back and was told no puppies in there. The day after I got her home I had a nagging feeling and I should have listened. Lesson learnt I will go with my gut feelings from now on - they are usually right- and it will not happen again. The bitch I mentioned was ultrasounded at 4 weeks and x rayed the week before she whelped. Neither showed anything. Sorry guys, wasn't referring to you specifically! Hope I didn't come across the wrong way
  15. If I had a bitch who was having a possible phantom, I think I'd have an u/s done for peace of mind. I would not be taking a "possibly" 7/8 week pregnant bitch to a dog show. JMHO.
  16. Oooh she is so clever!! How did you teach all those, are you doing clicker-training?? I think we need some new piccies of Monya
  17. My pup had Nobivac DHP/KC this week and the intranasal vaccine didn't bother her one little bit, no sneezing or wriggling. The injection was the DHP component - Distemper, Hepatitus, Parvovirus. The intranasal bit is the KC component.
  18. What rule is this? the only shows I know of which limit dogs allowed is Royal shows. At a royal the only dogs allowed are those entered. But I have not heard of any other shows being limited in this regard. Not sure about other states but this is from DogsQLD:
  19. She is so beautiful :p ETA: Oh, and I like to call that the 'dead cockroach' sleeping position
  20. Before it was compulsory, we used to discuss it as part of the admit procedure. The tattoo was explained to the owner, who could then choose whether to have it done or not. These days it is compulsory for all dogs and cats in QLD (both male and female), we still discuss it during the admit but of course there is no option to not have it done. Even before it became compulsory, I always had my pets tattooed when they were desexed. Particularly my girls, if they ever (god forbid) escaped the yard or were stolen, I see it as a visual deterrant to anyone who might view them as a potential puppy-making-machine. I don't think it could be seen as cruel, given that it's done under a general anaesthetic.
  21. What attitude? First you suggested my pup might have come from a petshop/puppy farm/BYB, then you told me to do things that I am already doing. There is really very little point in you telling me that my dog should be sleeping in a crate when she already is. As I said, I do appreciate advice, and I think I've shown appreciation to those who have offered genuine advice in this thread. Not to say that your advice wasn't genuine, just that it wasn't completely relevant. And perhaps I'm in the minority but I don't respond to a thread and give advice unless I've read it through first.
  22. What a good girl! I am using a PP20 at the moment. I think a crate that just has enough room for pup to stand up, turn around and lay down is ideal. You want to take advantage of the pups natural reluctance to toilet in it's sleeping area.
