  1. Ouchie! What a thread! Okay personally I don't agree with Moselle but I can see where she is coming from. Moselle if you could just take a breath and look at this you will see other posters views. Yes Mr Linke may have said that it couldve been a stafford or mastiff, but do you understand why? He was trying to make a point.....not the point you think he was making. In my understanding of what he said he was trying to show that the said dog could have been any breed that resembles a Pitt (to Joe public). He was not trying to shift the blame, just offering an alternate. I do understand that you are not happy that he "named names" but his only other alternative would be to list off every breed that could be misconstrued as a Pitt. The man was trying to make a point that's all. You may argue that he couldve worded things better, but that could be said for every post on this thread, yours included. Don't bash each other guys, were all here for the same reasons right?
  2. Could anyone have an infected anal gland? Possible bust of an anal gland from scooting maybe? Did u check the nails like I asked before? Are u absolutely sure it's blood? I once panicked that my horse was hurt as there was 'blood' all over his rug..... Turned out to be red tree sap.
  3. Have u checked their nails? My STD poo nicks his nails on the concrete all the time and bleeds. Just an idea....
  4. I talk to my animals all the time, and not just in training. Sometimes when the kids r at school and hubby is at work the dogs are the only company I have so I natter away to them all the time. Funnily enough, they seem to sit still and listen to me warbling on, lol! My horse is an amazing listener and my hubby thinks I'm nuts as I go down to the paddock and tell Zac all about my day at feeding and rugging time! Hehe! Most embarassing time I was busted was wen I had the salon full of grooming clients and I had finished them all off and was waiting for the owners to start picking them up. I was sitting in there with them talking away when I notice a man standing at the door wanting his dog, lol, I have no idea how long he had been standing there listening to me chatting away with the doggies! Lmao! He became a regular client after that tho, so he mustve seen the funny side of it! Haha!
  5. Yep I cop it a lot. I'm such a cruel owner for chopping off Abbis tail. She is a stumpy tail cattle dog! Then I get the whole "it's cruel to buy pedigrees as u r killing pound puppies" comments. But what irks me the most is when ppl call Elliott a "Labradoodle". He is a ten month old pedigree Std Poo. I try to explain what he is but because he is in a show puppy clip (he's got a LOT if hair) they argue that he does not look like a poodle so must be an oodle. Bloody hell!
  6. Yes, he will need basic training asap. I know Juanita is training them to b led, but I can do more once I pick him up. I've trained my colt from a weanling so shouldn't have too much trouble. Me wonders if cows would respond to horse training techniques.....eg pressure on, pressure off? Anyone know?
  7. In a previous post it was stated that to keep a calf in the city would b silly. So if it wasn't aimed at me then pls inform me who that statement was intended for. If that remark was not aimed at anyone then why was it said? I never saw any hint of support in the previous post or the last one gilly wrote. Anyways, I'm happy with what I'm doing, I may not be an expert on cows or "bulls" but I'll learn. Jed I'd love to hear more about your uncles steers, i'm sure you have many interesting stories. Hope things work out well for this little fella, I can only do my best.
  8. Thanks dianed. I'll b sure to be very careful with him. I've raised colts into stallions before so I know how scarey a half a tonne of baby can be! Lol! I pretty much just want to let him live his life. If he gets too pushy I'll do the same as you, I'll give him his own paddock and just let him be. I do hope he is easy enough to handle tho, but only time will tell. love your girl, she is gorgeous, so is her bubba!
  9. So publicly calling someone silly and correcting their grammar isn't rude? I must live on another planet then. So what would you rather me do gillybob? I can either do what I'm doing, which it trying my darndest to help save this baby while educating myself on how best to care for it, or I can leave it to die. I don't understand the negativity. Concern is one thing, but you are being just plain negative without offering alternative advice or solutions. I'm aware of what he is and have some (limited) experience with livestock. I'm doing my absolute best. I don't appreciate being publicly shamed for my incorrect wording or my lack of knowledge. Everyone starts somewhere and has to learn....this is the exact attitude that forces new people out of the showring, and sadly I see it in the horseworld all too often. There is a fine line between constructive criticism and plain bullying. I will take this calf and do my best with him. I have support from locals and people who have far more experience than me and I dare say more experience than you gillybob. I will do my best and be proud that I tried. So please, unless you are willing to put your hand up to help or open up your wallet, don't call me silly or have a go at me for trying. Cheers.
  10. Kirislin that is a marvelous idea, thanks for that! When we build the house there will b a lot of large boulders that will need shifting, so he may b of assistance there. I'll talk to the farmer neighbour and get advice on training etc. Fifi can you really ride them? I had no idea! Wow, imagine if we broke him in, wouldn't that be fantastic!
  11. Absolutely. I dont care if it is a frog or an elephant, every life is precious and every animal deserves the same respect regardless of species, breed or gender. Yeah Im hoping the fencing will hold. Its new cattle fencing and the neighbour has been running his steers on it, so if it is keeping his boys in im sure it will keep our little fella in.....hopefully!
  12. OMG really! Hahaha that is so cute! I had a Miniature horse once that used to do that, he loved to jump into my car or come in the house if someone left the door ajar. Funny little bugger even learnt how to open the fridge somehow, lol. Clarry sounds just gorgeous!
  13. Hmmm....that sounded a little unkind....did u wake up on the wrong side of the bed gilly? I didnt, Im as happy as larry that I have helped to save a little life, and I feel good. Im aware that they are bulls....i do apologise for calling them cows, i didnt think anyone would correct me on that. I am not "silly", I wont be keeping one in the city, as I have already stated i have 40 acres out west where he will be kept. And i wont 'do' anything with him, he will be allowed to just live his life out as a "Bull" and be happy. I dont have to do anything with him at all, he can roam with my horses and eat grass for all i care. Cheers.
  14. I think it's fairly normal behaviour as he is only a youngster. The SBT should let him know when he's had enough, but I would discourage this if I were u. Only because it is obviously annoying to the other dog. I have the same problem with my 11 month old STD poo chewing on my ACDs ears. I try to discourage it by vocal commands, "no!" ect, and if it gets too bad I crate him to give her a break, she's an old dog and not very well so I don't want her being harrassed too much. Good luck, hope u get it sorted.
  15. Not sure Clyde. I spose it depends on your particular council, I would imagine it would b different in different places. We have 40 acres so that's plenty of room for the cow and our horses. Contact ur council and see what they say maybe...
  16. Ams no worries! Just wanted to make sure u knew all was above board and legit thats all. Im not sure about ur council etc...maybe have a look on their website and see what it says. Are you on land? Im pretty sure if u have over an acre the council wont put up too much of a fuss...as long as its not in a residential area. I didnt have to do too much research as my stepmum knows it all already and its fine for me to have one out there. Where abouts are you?
  17. Can u imagine one in a suburban backyard! Lol, u could just pass it off as an overgrown great Dane with really bad conformation...hehe! But for anyone who can't take one but would like to help, sponsorship is also an option.
  18. Im not a big fan of the badminton.....more of a western girl myself. Would rather go see a rodeo or reining, barrels etc. But Ill probably still watch the rerun on friday. Thanks for posting that up.
  19. There are two in this picture who still need saving. The little white one and the one to the far left with the heart on his forehead. Cute as buttons.
  20. This is my fella, we have named him "Sooky" Im pretty sure they are Fresians. Yes Im aware of the legalities of transporting, tagging etc, my stepmother works for the DPI. I know about castrating too, ill do it when he is around 4 months old. Im pretty sure my neighbour can do it himself without the need for a vet as he has beef cattle and is pretty experienced with it all. And yes, there are a few others who are in desperate need of homes or sponsorship. If anyone is interested in helping just PM me and I can help organise it.
  21. Lab rat it's very common for the boys to be slaughtered at a young age, but you are right, not all are killed. The calves are up the coast with Juanita the lady who saved them, but as soon as I pick up mine I'll be sure to post pics! Another friend of mine has saved one too, I'm just so glad everyone pulled together to make this happen! But all the credit goes to Juanita, she was the one who alerted everyone to these little babies plight and she did all the hard work. I can't wait to pick up my baby, I just hope my horses and dogs are as excited as me! Pics coming soon!
  22. They are dairy calves daisy. I don't have pics as I haven't picked mine up yet, but there is still one that needs a home or sponsorship if u r interested. Juanita is happy to keep them there but needs help with feed etc. They are absolutely gorgeous, there are twins and they have perfectly shaped love hearts on their foreheads...beautiful babies.
  23. I'm so excited and feel so happy today! With the help of a lovely lady up the coast, 7 poddy calves were saved from slaughter yesterday. Today was supposed to be D-day for them, but they are all safe and sound now! I'll be taking one and he will live his days out in our paddocks doing what he does best...being a cow! One of the 7 was only three days old. They mustve been terrified in the dogger pens, but at least they are safe now. Anyways just had to share the good news!
  24. I cannot advise you on this but I would like to say that I'm very sorry to hear ur doggy isn't doing very well. I have one with a brain tumour and I know how gutwrenching it is. Big hugs to you and Lucy. xxx
  25. You never mentioned that. We are not mind readers.
