  1. Hi guys, I just received a very sad phone call from my favourite client's mum...the poor old fella passed away last night at the ripe old age of 12, which is pretty good for a GSD, although she is still very distraught as to be expected. But anyways, Im wanting to get her a gift in the way of a GSD statue or a charm on a necklace or something. Ive trawled the internet and phoned a few jewellers but cannot seem to find anything of the sort. Does anyone know where to get something like this in brisbane? I figure there must be a place that sells them as these kinds of things are given out at shows as prizes etc, and Ive seen these things before in ppls homes. Where should I start for a nice GSD gift for her? Any ideas appreciated greatly.
  2. Please don't feed these dogs, they are not yours to feed. If someone gave my acd a good-o it would result in her being hospitalised. She is on a strictly no fat diet and even one treat can make her pancreatitis deadly. Not a good idea to feed someone elses dogs without permission.
  3. Could you elaborate? Well it's a scientific fact that dog's are carnivores! Dogs have teeth and digestive systems almost incapable of digesting or absorbing nutrients from vegetation or grain. (omnivores?) And their DNA is 99.8% identical to wolves, which are carnivores. And contrary to popular belief, internationally recognised wolf expert, David Mech, has proven that wolves don't eat the stomach contents of their prey - they shake it out and eat the lining. Dogs can and do eat vegetable matter. just look at the main ingredients listed on dry food packets. In most cases the first and main ingrediant is cereal or grain. I have always fed my dogs vegetables as part of their diet and they have all lived to ripe old ages. Yes, but they do not eat enough plant material to be scientifically classifed as an omnivore. I think the original point was 'is a dog an omnivore or carnivore'.....they are carnivores regardless of if u feed them veges or not. Mine likes Snow Peas and will raid the fridge to get them! hehe!
  4. One I heard on an American dog site scared the hell outa me. Apparently the Stafford's skull needs to "be" split.....eg, you split its skull yourself.....or it can die as the brain grows too large for the skull. God I hope no one took that on board and bopped their dog over the head!
  5. Is an animal that seeks out, consumes and digests non-animal foods omnivorous? That would be my understanding. Scientifically speaking, dogs are actually classified as "Carnivores", but there is a difference between dogs and cats. Cats are "Obligate Carnivores" which means their diet is explicitly made up of meat. Dogs, however, do consume some plant material, therefore they are not "obligate" carnivores. But they do not consume enough to be classified as "Omnivores". Confusing I know...
  6. You are absolutely right. Who in their right minds would move a colicy horse to a different pasture? Bloody disgusting. And if she was being "monitored" by a vet, why didnt he see the signs before it was too late? It isnt hard to see if a horse is starting to colic if u know what you are looking for... These people are absolute morons! RIP Brandy.
  7. Okay, no worries. I just sent u a pm with my number etc. Anything else u need just call, im close by and available all the time.
  8. I have no words, I am in utter shock! Please hang in there Jed, you are such a wealth of knowledge and wonderful advice....and such an amazing person. STEVE - I live about 15 mins from Jed, I can take the horses for however long she needs. I am here all day every day and have two other horses that they can be with. Ill PM you with my details if she needs a place to agist them. I have plenty of feed etc. RIP little doggies.
  9. Yes I also wondered about this one....I dont know how allergic to dogs one can be, but is it possible for one to be that allergic to the point where anaphalactic (SP?) shock can set in? If so, then isnt it a requirement and also the responsibility of the management to provide a safe working environment for their employees? I wonder what would happen in that instance....the management would be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Weird scenario, but not altogether impossible...
  10. VA - Dont feel too upset over it hun, you have tried and it didnt work out....it happens. Not every dog is for every family...try to remember that okay. And take no notice of any flaming that comes your way...it is inevitable and easy enough to ignore. I was in your position a while back...I took on a show dog, she was lovely, breeders were lovely and all was good. I tried training her (Ive trained many dogs) but her and I just didnt "click"...be it with training or even just daily life. I was well aware of what this breed was like, I did my research and because I work with dogs I thought I could handle her. Sadly I couldnt. She could be walked for hours and hours on end and still have boundless energy, she would do constant zoomies around our acreage and inside our house and injure herself, she destroyed everything she came in contact with, Ive never known a dog like her. My other dogs hated her aswell and the dynamics of the pack was ruined and I had to keep her seperated from my other three. I have trained dogs up for therapy work, agility, flyball etc... but couldnt even obedience train this one. I felt like such a failure. It was awful to have to send her back to her breeder but what else could I do? Both her and I were miserable. She is happier with them and Im happier without her in my life. (It sounds awful but its true....she and I just werent meant to be together.) So dont feel bad, your not the first person to go thru such a heartwrenching ordeal. Cheer up hun, you will find the right dog one day.
  11. Arent you meant to have your dog under control at offleash parks regardless. If my dog jumped all over someone else walking their dog I would be embarrassed. Not everyone has that option. I am a responsible dog owner and a responsible parent. My children will continue to accompany me to the dog park like it or not. Maybe I am lucky as were I take my dogs children are welcome and dogs are relatively well behaved Oh, I see....and you can honestly say that your dogs have never jumped up on anyone? Ever? Get off ur high horse, that reply was utterly ridiculous! I cant help it if my dog chooses to jump on someone....he isnt a robot...he's a dog. A well trained one but still a dog! He rarely does jump on people but when he is at a dog park playing with three other high energy dogs and doing zoomies......well...sometimes things happen. Maybe they shoudve stayed the hell out of a dog park (that was full of mud) if they didnt want their pretty little clothes to get soiled. LOL!
  12. Hey huski, i saw the funniest thing at Nudgee once....(u know that park right) We were all there, having a grand old time, dogs doing zoomies, everyone enjoying themselves when in walks a photographer and some models.....they used the dog park as a quick access to get to the mangroves and beach for some photos....big mistake! All of a sudden three big muddy dogs (one was mine) came bounding over and jumped all over these models who were wearing white! The photographer and the women went ballistic at us.....we just laughed and said "Well its a dog park? wat do you expect?" I just dont understand why some people dont get it....its a bloody dog park for crying out loud! LOL!
  13. I disagree. I am a mum to a 4yo and a step mum to an 11yo and 14yo. I do not believe that kids should be allowed in dog parks. I take my dogs to offleash "designated" dog parks for some time out from my kids and to have some doggy time. I have seen too many parents take their little kids to dog parks only to have their kids bowled over and the poor dog owner get abused over it. In my opinion it is not fair. I take my dogs to the dog park to do agility and often see 3-4 kids playing on the agility equipment....my dog cant even do her agility training as the parents wont ask the kids to get off......how is that fair on me or my dog? Its not. And if it is descriminatory to not allow kids into dog parks.....isnt it also descriminatory to not allow my dog to play offlead in a kiddies play area with swings, slides etc? When I take my daughter to the kiddie park I never allow my dog near the play area. I dont even take my dogs there....as its not fair on the other parents to have to worry about my dogs. JMO though.
  14. My dogs dont know the difference between horse feed and dog food. They get in the paddocks and eat my horse's copra that falls from his mouth! Mmmmmm...copra....yummy!
  15. My Smithy is the exact opposite of what everyone else is describing. She is fearful and agressive toward anyone who has a disabillity, be it physical or mental. Dont know why she is like this, she has never had a bad experience in that department from what I know. She once became confrontational with a girl who walked past us (she had Down Syndrome) and I had to pull her away and apologise. She gets like that with ppl in wheelchairs, crutches or even if someone has an evident limp. She doesnt like anyone who is different. I think it is a confidence/insecurity problem on her behalf.
  16. And here is a more updated pic of the two. And yes, he still lets him sit on his lap...even at 6 months of age. LOL!
  17. My tradie hubby never had a dog till he met me and never understood why I love my dogs. Things changed when I bought him his first dog last year, a Standard Poodle named Elliott who has now become my hubby's most beloved thing in the world, its very cute to hear him baby talk to Elly and tell him what a good boy he is! This pic was taken on Elliott's first night with us.
  18. I was called out to remove it from a property, im licenced to do this, id love to leave them alone and this was a release of a rescued snake. I have been relocating and saving wildlife here on the peninsula for many years. The reason she was pissed was because she could smell freedom after being in the tub and she was letting me know she wanted to go now. I was actually steering it towards the reeds so she could hide. I think she was pregnant, hence her girth. Cheers Then why did you go back and pick her up after she was let go out of the tub!, seems to me you were tormenting her! If you are so wonderfull why didn't you let her go in the reeds? And no a Dog Forum is not interested in some sheila and a Comment on 'Show us your tits' Speak for yourself. I found the vid quite interesting and did not see any 'tormenting' going on. Maybe he should have let it find its own way back to the reeds, but it is plainly obvious that he had good intentions.
  19. 1. Crate 2. Oldfield Force Dryer 3. Halti/Gentle Leader (for my over exuberant 6mo Std Poodle!)
  20. Ive got a Nissan Patrol. They are really big and roomy, plenty of room for my two Toys and Standard poo and Smithy. Not sure if you want something that big tho (didnt read the whole thread), they can be real buggers to maneuvre in carparks and mine has a really wide turning circle so not the easiest truck to drive. Tough as nails tho and great for the dogs.
  21. What an idiot, abbie is gorgeous. My toy poodles have had their fair share of 'breedism' before. Someone once called my white toy a 'tampon' in front of me, if I wasnt so shocked and speechless I would have gone off my head at her. Ive had men walk past us and joke about my toys being 'crab bait' and I just laugh and ask them if they are jealous that my dogs have better haircuts then them. People are so stupid.
  22. Im a bit spun out, I didnt know we had any other dolers out here in samford! I was leaving carpark of IGA today and in front of me was a white navara with an awesome sticker on the bumper that said something along the lines of "Purebred dogs, the original Designer Dog........www.Dogzonline.com.au". Samford is such a little tiny place, I was stoked to see that we have another fellow doler out here in the sticks! BTW....where can I get my paws on one of those excellent stickers? I think they are a great way to promote purebreds.

  25. He probably put her dog on PB so quickly because seizures can be very dangerous, especially in an aged dog. Epilepsy can come on at any age, it does not always rear its ugly head in young dogs. Epilepsy is not a clarified "disease" either, it is a label given to seizures of unknown causes. Horrible, horrible condition to have or to witness.
