Because we are a sub branch of Geelong they only do the assessment every 6 months, so I just sent my paperwork in about a month before, I had all the vet work done and got my references organized then just waited for the assessment day. If you submit the paperwork now they may not accept it because Lexi is not the right age yet? Could you perhaps ring the point of contact In your area to see what they think? They may not want you to have the vet assessment done till she is the required age? Thanks Tez, I'm sure your right, they'll be fine it will be me that is the nervous one!! As for how long we spend on the ward, that is up to us and our own judgment with the patients, and also depends on how many patients are on the ward and who wants a visit. Oh not long to go now, keep us posted on how you go, I'm sure you and Shandy will breeze it in! Your vet sounds like mine, they call my girls a vets dream, now the boys that's another matter -
I am sure they will too, we have another Lady too, her little dog is a biscon frise, so Mawson is the only male among the ladies Think you need to get your paper work out and make a start on it! then at least Maws won't be the only boy!! Edited cause I realize half of what I typed had dissapeared

Mine like sweet potatoe but they love pumpkin better!! How is your litle fella going?? Any more photos?

Thanks guys, the induction went well, there was much excitement from the staff, they are quite amazing people. The lady who is coordinating us is organizing the local paper for next week so that will be fun and we will start our visits the week after. I am nervous for my girls now it's up to them, Im sure they will be great and today was the first time I had though :D they will have to get used to the lift, it will be interesting to see how they go in them but there is always the stairs! I'll update again next week after our media debut -
The induction went well, the hospital staff are amazing and are all looking forward to us visiting which will start in 2 weeks. Keep an eye out in next weeks standard there might be some familiar faces human and dogs! When we start our visits we report to the nurses station and they give us a list of who we can visit on that particular day.

Just thought I'd pop this up for a quick update, we are doing our induction at the hospital today, just humans no dogs, it's been a while in the making but we have finally got the ball rolling. We should be doing visits shortly so it is all very exciting. It's nice to be doing a community service and I hope my doggies can bring some sick people a little joy!! -
Thanks guys today is only an induction, so no dogs just humans. As Delta dogs are quite new to Warrnambool (only Mawson for 2 years) I'm sure I will be more informed with the hands on stuff once we have been visiting for a while. I'm quite happy to share the knowledge and talk about it infact you will probly all be bored to tears with me banging on about it after the visits start. As far as photos, I can post pics of the dogs and we are allowed to take pics of patients with the dogs, with permission, but won't be able to post them on the forum. Some maybe used for the Delta website.

RJ we were posting at the same time! Seems the clouds got a few peoples attention yesterday!

love it Jess, my lot are ice-cream fiends too especially my white girl! sounds like you had a great weekend. I went with some friends last night to a party at union station and on the way there I commented that the clouds were very bizarre, so prominent and boofy looking, they were awesome!

The hospital has a duty of care to it's patients that's why there is strict guide lines in place for visiting dogs. There is a protocol that has to be met for each patient that chooses to have a dog visit. The hospital has procedures that have to be followed to the letter. I am not altogether sure of the procedure with patients with allergies but I'm sure we will find out tomorow and know more after the induction. It is different in hospitals than it is in nursing homes as the patients in hospitals are generally not long term. We are also lucky to have a a non allergenic and low allergenic dogs to visit the patients which is always a plus in a hospital environment. I would think if there was a highly allergic patient in a room with a patient who wanted a visit, that person would have to miss out. It would probably depend on the severity of the allergy.
-
Nice shots guys, I would love to do it again next year, but I might challenge myself to all 4 dogs together once a week, the shots might be snaps occasionally as it would be hard to have a good structured shot each week but I'd love to give it a go?
-
If the patients don't want a visit we just skip that room. We are notified of patients with any allergies. We know which wards we are visiting and it is very structured, We also have a hospital volley who is familiar with the patients.

Hi Guys, hope everyone has had a good weekend, the weathers been ok, We are heading up to the hosptial tomorow for our induction so our visits with the newly recruited Delta dogs won't be far away now. Really looking forward to it!

Nice shots Nic, love the full on close up one of Jedi the best! The 52 weeks of Fable is great, she has grown heaps, wish they stayed pups a little longer. Helen, hope Bellas feeling ok after her little op. Evolving, I didn't realize it was a little jockey in last weeks shot Aleras shot this week very cute!

Whoops forgot to say, I havent been to this thread for a while but all the photos are just so fantastic. I use my 50mm mostly these days, but am going out tomorow arvo and had to take it off for the zoom lense, I was sad to take it off. It is so versatile!
-
Great shots Huga, the new camersa suits you!! The last shot of your little fella is just adorable, You have the best subjects to work with.
-
Oh I love lady bugs, nice shot. I always used to think the little poem that went with the lady bug was aweful! Maybe I remember it wrong?? Lady bug Lady bug fly away home, your house is on fire, your children are gone. Was there more to it than that??

Arghhh to hard, I love my boys but I love my girls I think Boys (well mine anyway) are more sookier (mammas boys) and the girls are more independant! If I could have another dog tomorow I would probly have another boy but only because I think a boy would fit in better with the pack I already have!!
