  1. Jj you are so right about the MB chick neck, the ones I got there yesterday were crud all split and little bone sticking out and sharp  I won't be getting them from there again! I am now feeding my lot the Eagle Pack natural. After much deliberation I decided to give a premium dry a try. I have had a lot of trouble with Cooper and food and he has been on Eagle Pack for a while. The other three were having meat (human grade) and veg with some extra such as omega 3 & 6 etc....Also a small amount of supercoat. All 4 have regular bones, chicken, beef, lamb and that still stands. I changed CJ over to EP when he would only eat dry as I didn't feel supercoat was sufficient for him on its own. I tried to work out the cost as to which way was more expensive but I think it will work out about the same. The cost doesn't really matter I was just curious as to the difference. OH is saying he doesn't think the dry is enough and they always seem hungry but i think once we have been at it for a while they will settle down. two of them need to lose a couple of kilos so it won't don them any harm!
  2. All good so far with the dry not completely changed over yet still adding a bit of the supercoat to get rid of it. They probly don't need it but I can't bare not to give them chicken necks/frames/wings/bones etc so each night they have been having a small amount of something extra well it is not really extra as they are not getting the full quota of dry and I do also base how much they get on the activity they have done for the day. To me the frames were just right, each one had a little skin around the neck area, that was in my opinion to much so I just cut that off I probley threw out half a kilo of skin out from the two bags.
  3. Hey Tez, hows Janey today has she recouperated from her little escapade yesterday??
  4. Yes Meat barn is awesome, they had massive lamb shanks a couple of weeks ago and I got some for the dogs and they just loved them, has anyone noticed how exxy lamb shanks have gotten, just dog food if you ask me but they seem to be the inn thing at the moment! Im wondering if the butchers at kmart is la familiglia?? I thought they were could be wrong anyway I have got 4 bags from there so far and they have all been extremely fresh, and I was very suprised as like you jess have been caught out buying the big bags and most of it is either no good or rotten.
  5. I'm not sure if someone mentioned this a while back but the butcher shop at the kmart complex (not lenards) has bags of chicken frames for $2. I got soem today there was 10 frames in a bag. I thought this was great all very fresh reasonably meaty and not just all bone and they weren't small they were huge. I do remember a discussion a while back but I was too lazy to go searching!! Anyway just thought I'd mention it incase someone wants some, they also had big bags of bone and brisket for $2 as well. I don't think I have ever seen it as cheap as they have it!!
  6. Oh look forward to seeing how you go, one good thing I have found with the D80 is the ability to shoot well in low light with the iso fairly high, I shot some of the dogs the other day inside in dimish light and at 1600 there was no noise in the shots at all, I was happy with that but the shots were crap
  7. Yep there is a 1.8 and also a 1.4 but the one point 4 is a lot more exxy. OH got mine off ebay and I haven't had a minutes trouble with it and it has done some work the poor little thing for a cheapie lense they are just great!
  8. Lovely, makes me wanna cuddle up with him!!
  9. Great shots! Bec is right about the nifty fifty. My OH got me one for Xmas after I got my D80 and he only paid $99 it is a great little lense and very versatile. Huga, I have posted the good I did register it so you will have to sign when it comes, don't laugh at the way it is stuffed in the bag, the girl at the post office that helped me choose which way to send it assured me that it would fit and fit it did :D after a very tight squeeze but it had gone in and there was no going back!! You will see what I mean when you get it!!
  10. Not that I run but the thing I find with the doog bag is that I don't know it is even there, it is very light weight for what it is. granted you can't put a lot of treats in it but I manage out and about with 4 and always still come home with treats left.
  11. I do remember when you posted about this to begin with as I had just taken that shot I have of Cooper jumping the ditch. I was going to enter it but decided not to, wasn't sure if it would have been good enough anyway, enjoy the judging I bet there will be some spectacular work!
  12. No worries, there is a bit of difference between the D80 and the D70 the book actually says "perfect for D70 owners too" have a look here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d80.asp http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d70.asp
  13. Thats fantastic you will absolutley love it!! To begin with I already thought you used a DSLR, you definatley have an eye for photography, there will be no stopping you now and you have great subjects, lovely kids. skin and fur!! Was it a total suprise? How lovely of Mr Huga do do such a nice thing!! I have a D80 book that come with a cd when I first got mine. I read the book from front to back but I never bothered with the cd. Im sure you will be able to nut it all out but the book certainly gave me a bit more of an insight. If you want them just PM me your address and I'll post them on to you. I'd be glad if someone else got the use out of it!!
  14. I have that dilemma all the time with going different places if I can't take the lot, who do I take? It's always a tough decision, I usually take which ever dog fits the occasion
  15. You poor thing but just think it will all be worth it in the end!!
  16. Jane you naughty girl, she is just desperate to eat. Do you have anything left in your fridge?? What do you reckon she ate??
  17. Hi guys, anyone taking thier fur kids to work with them tomorow? http://www.takeyourdog.com/index.php I wish I could take mine to work but somehow I don't think paint and puppies would go well together just as well I have the day off!! Hope this hasn't already been posted I did a quick search in general but couldn't see anything. If anyone does this I'd love to see some pics of your pooches at work!!
  18. He is SHAMELESS! Sometimes he comes out into the yard with us. He sits there, looking gorgeous and serene. Bitty does her thing, at the end of the session I give her a big hoopla on what a marvel she is and then we both run back to the porch and Bitty's like "I LOVE YOU BROTHER!!!!" *snuggles* I then go and pay homage to the little lord and so there he sits, being fawned over by us, looking as pleased as punch! That is the kind of thing Bubby is into! ;) laugh: He sounds like the overseer (sp) of Bitty's progress and Bub sounds like he thinks he is the king, very similar to my boy Cooper, my 3 younger ones are like his groupies, they all stand around him trying to get his attention and he loves it!
  19. Just a quick reminder for anyone going to the tracking workshop on Sunday, the time is 9 oclock start at Epiphany, ( I think Epihany is No 4) Church street Hawksdale, we leave from there and go to the golf links so for anyone who is going and doesn't get there on time head strait to the golf links and thats where we will be. The cost is $5 to cover insurance. Tea and coffee for morning tea. then to finish the morning a BBQ lunch at Epiphany byo meat and a salad to share.
  20. Well I think thats great that you know him well enough to know exactly what he likes and like someone said in a post earlier on as long as you still get to spend that time with him thats great. It is interesting to see how other people view training thier dogs and why they do it. I have known people to say to me that mine are well behaved and it is a credit to me that they are but the simple fact of the matter is, I don' think I could have four and not have them trained to a acceptable well behaved level, imagine what the place would be like with 4 unruly oodles taking over
  21. I guess another thing is too, if you are happy with a dogs behaviour and there is no issues then why not concerntrate on the one that loves it or needs it the most. I try to spread it around with my lot the youngest needs the most training and he benifits from it. But the others enjoy it too so I keep it up with all of them.
  22. Someone told me that I would be a better trainer if I can make Bubby ENJOY training and improve his motivation! I guess I am curious, these mellow dogs, are they wired differently and should be given a chance to be trained by employing various different methods or just let them chill somewhere because that’s who they are and not every dog likes to run out and do 20 laps of fetching. What makes you think he doesn't enjoy it?? is it because he doesn't do what you want him to do? or he is not motivated. My oldest is very mellow and layed back at home extremely well behaved and a real gentleman, He was hard to teach to begin with he alwasy wanted to be sociable at training instead of focusing on me and what I wanted him to do but he finally grew up, still likes to socialize above anything else but is also happy to train and loves to please. With him it just came with age, he is 4 now. What sort of things have you tried with him to get him a little more motivated with training? Do you use food rewards or a different method?
  23. This will be an interesting thread! My youngest Bronson who is around 2 and half has been tougher than the other 3 as far as obedience and general behaviour, he is very head strong and demanding if he doesn't want to do it he just doesn't At our obedience school we have puppy class then well behaved class then we go into classes 1 - 10 My first 3 were passed puppies and the well behaved dog program by the time they were 6 months old and well into class one straight after. Now Bronson can do all the obedience stuff and passed everything on his well behaved card reasonably quick but one thing we couldn't get him to do was the out of sight wait. He had to be tied up for 30 seconds and i had to go out of sight and the idea is he is to sit quietly till I return, yea right!! Bronson is a true mummys boy he is just attached to me like you wouldn't believe and after a while I just stopped trying it was all too hard!! So unofficially we headed in to class one where he is great does everything he needs to do to complete class one but can't because he officially hasn't completed the first stage (well behaved) so fast forward till now 2 and half years later and me still not ever bothering to try to do the out of sight wait and then last Sunday the class did an out of sight stay and I thought there is no way he is going to do this and sure enough as soon as I went to go out of sight he broke his stay to follow me. So I just thought ok Ill tie you up and we will try the out of sight wait, which I hadn't bothered with for about a year. Guess what ......he did it!! He just stood there looking around wasn't bothered that I was out of sight, he didn't cry, didn't carry on just stood watching everything around him!! I was so proud, don't know if it was a fluke or not but I didn't care we can finally officially try out for other levels now! Sorry a very long winded account of my boys acheivment but I do feel now it has spurred me back into putting in more training time with him because he can do it. He has just been a little slow to let go of the apron strings than the other 3... I think what you should do with Bub is not set your self to high a goals work on something little that he will get/or enjoy doing and build it from there. Believe me I know what it is like to have one that is fun to teach, My oldest girl Lacy is just a wizz with obedience she is keen to learn and loves food and to teach her new stuff is unreal as it doesn't take her long to pick stuff up and she does it every time!! This was Lacy at obedience a couple of weeks ago, she has done little jumps and such before not proper agility so she had never jumped through a hoop so I showed her once then set her up and went the other side with the camera and she just did it easy peasy Gotta love a keen to learn dog for sure!! But sometimes I do think we have to put the effort in to the ones not so keen. Well thats just me anyway. Here Lacy jumping through the hoop
