  1. In reality he is probly as big as a 5 cent piece. Id like to get a bit closer but I'm a scardey cat!
  2. I took my lot there a couple of years ago and they loved it, it rained most of the time but we still went out and about, all coated up. Us and the dogs had a ball we got some great pics too. It set up wonderfully for the dogs. I'd love to go back again one day. Great photos!!
  3. I also have a 5 blade but I'm yet to use it, only due to it being blunt and not cutting even from new. I only recently spoke to my guy who sharpens my 10 blade and he said bring it in with the clippers it might need aligning or resharpening.
  4. All my photos are processed in Lightroom, most are clean edits with a bit of sharpening, contrast, clarity and sometimes noise reduction. The sliders in Lightroom are great, just a slight slide can make all the difference. Occasionally I use a preset but hardly at all with macro stuff. My spidey shots are cropped as I was not getting to close. I never usually alter colours although I did with one I took yesterday, I'll post it after.
  5. Thanks Huga, your 85mm is the Nikon yea? Is the Nikon 1.4? You have probly already meantime it here, I'll read back. Did you get the 1.8 again in the 50 or the 1.4? I can hardly bring myself to use my 50mm, it hunts like crazy, I've done some searches and apparently it's common on the 7D. I loved the 50mm in the Nikon ad used it most of the time. I think the Nikon version is much better built than the Canon. I couldn't believe how plasticy it feels. The 40mm is much better! I thought for kids the 85mm would be a good one as I don't have to be right in their faces, that's what I love about the 100mm Also I'd like to use the 85mm for some action shots, I think CM's pics here show it does that pretty good.
  6. I used to do all 4 of mine in one day but not any more, it's usually 2 one week and two the next. You will find after a few goes you will get it exactly how you like it!
  7. I'm really tossing up if I should get this lens, after shooting some families photos and solely using the 100mm and the 40mm I'd love something in between. I've looked at the canon version 1.8 and the sigma 1.4 and seems the sigma gets the better reviews. I still want the 70-200 but I think I'll get more use out of the 85mm Mavericks Mission, did you get around to taking some photos with yours?
  8. love it! Like my youngest, I think him growing up in the first 12 months watching the other 3 he got so used to it! He's the cruisiest little dude, I posted video on face book once of him being clipped and someone asked me if he was drugged! my girls are great too. My oldest is a bit different, he's tolerant but really dislikes his legs being done. So I've learnt to get quick with him so it's over me done with. I always thought my lot looked awful when I first started but now I can do them and think they look pretty good. I still leave them about 1/2 inch all over sometimes shorter depending on the season, long ears and long tail but poodles short feet. I usually clip about every 8 - 10 weeks.
  9. I know the opening post says Tips from Pros and I am no means a pro, just thought I would add my 2 cents worth. Its common knowledge I have 4 oodles and I clip them all myself, I only ever use a 10 blade (came with the clippers Wahl km ss) and I always use the combs, mine combs are stainless steel, I originally had the plastic ones with my first set of clippers but they were forever bending. the Stainless ones are much stronger. Agree with others, clean brushed out coat = easier to clip and blade won't go blunt to soon. If any knots are present, I prefer to break them up, brush them out or snip them out before clipping. My precious areas are under arms as they have the kind of flappy skin and its easy to get caught if the coat is long. I use the blade only between eyes, feet and base of tail and lightly on tummy for the fine fluffier bits. I have never (touch wood) had any mishaps. Be careful for any little things you might not notice but I usually think doing your own dog you are likely to know any bumps etc your dog has, for eg Cooper has a wart on his back that I am aware of, even though I use the combs the pointy end of the comb could hurt if it dug in. I think the general rule of thumb is clip with the fur not against although I break this rule on legs with Cooper, its easier to do his legs against in stead of with. I get my blades sharpened when they go blunt and they go blunt just like that, one min they are sharp next minute, they wont cut. I am occasionally guilty of clipping a few days after bathing, hence the blades not staying as sharp as they should/could. I don't mind doing the job, 3 of mine quite enjoy it and its good bonding time with them, they are pretty cruisy, the youngest one even lays down and has a snooze when I do his feet, legs etc.
  10. I just can't imagine coming home and finding one of my dogs shot.... what a disgusting human to do such a thing to a poor defenceless little dog.
  11. yep! Frodos Mum, Im good if I can do it once I usually remember but for some reason I have like a mental block that won't let me even figure it out! It's crazy, so now I have two ways to do it which is great. Picasa is playing nice now its been reinstalled, not sure what was up with it before?
  12. First one done with picasa, (reinstalling seems to have ironed the bugs out!) Another lovely DOLer sent me a msg and said she uses Print shop Pro which jogged my (very bad) memory into remembering I have that and its so simple, so the second one done with Print shop. I know PS is good but sometimes you just want to do it the easy way!
  13. Thanks, I'll give Picasa another go, just downloading it now. Took me ages to figure out how to remove a program off the mac, but think I figured it out now.
  14. Snook don't go to any trouble, Ill search the net for a tut, I shouldnt be lazy and just learn to do it! After all the textures weren't hard and I put that off for ages.
  15. Yes that was picassa, and it is easy in there but my picassa program keeps crashing, I might delete it an reinstall. Its the first program I have come across on my mac that it doesn't like! Wow how silly am I, I only made that thread in July. I have such a horrendously bad memory!
  16. Snook you have an awesome memory! Derrrr Didn't really get the answer I wanted in that thread either. Might have to revisit PS.
  17. I just thought someone might know an easy way.
  18. Yea I did ask Ruth, she used in design, way too complicated for me. I don't remember making a thread, I will go back and see if I can find it.
  19. effectively I want to be able to create a landscape image out of a portrait picture. So one side would be the picture and the other side would be blank. Ill see if I can find an example.
  20. He looks like he has grown so much! Love the second and third pic he looks like a horse rearing up. The first one give a great idea of how big he really is. My friend is super excited her boy arrives at Tullamarine on Monday. :)
  21. Whoops just wanted to add also anyone interested in freebie textures, some cool ones HERE available for download, I know they wont be everyones taste but some are nice!
  22. Hi Guys, just wondering if there is an easy way/program to be able to have a photo one side of a picture and text or just blank the other side? I have tried apps for collages and picasa but they just don't turn out right. Not proportainate if that makes sense. Just wondering what people use and how hard/time consuming it is?
  23. Thanks so much for the lovely compliment! The thing I have found with mine (Canon 100mm Macro) is it is so versatile, I use it for lots of other stuff too. :)
