She gets free running exercise and swimming but how much interaction with you does she get, how much one on one training and play? Gundogs generally have an inbuilt desire to please you and do things for you, is she getting the opportunity to do this?

Skin Problem Diagnosed As Ringworm/ Fungal

Advocate will treat Demodex, takes a few treatments but it does work. -
Whilst not essential for the average pet owner, I believe crate training is invaluable if for any reason the dog has to be hospitalised, travelled by air, confined after surgery or illness etc. A dog that has never been crated can find these events more traumatic than they need be. All my dogs are crate trained and they are happy and relaxed when crated they do not see their crates as punishment.

"backyard Breeders" Posing As Purebred Breeders
Crisovar replied to lushos's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just to let you know ethical breeders do also advertise on the sites you quoted. I know because I am one of them. :D Exactly it is not WHERE a Breeder advertises it is how they raise their pups and how they choose the puppy buyers for their pups that counts. -
Need Info On How To Track Ankc Papers
Crisovar replied to sam&harley's topic in General Dog Discussion
So you need to google JALFIN and WINTERSHEBA kennels and contact the breeders,or contact the canine council in the state they were bred in and see if you can locate them that way. -
He looks to be Oyster Brindle, he looks lovely.

A friend of mine purchased a dryer from Pupkus at the recent pet expo and then found out they could have got it from Clipper World much cheaper. I probably worded that wrong a Pupkus manufactured dryer is what I meant to say. Exellent product.

I have seen bitches insides in a terrible state after ONE litter. It is the general health and fitness and care given to the bitch that really is the key to this. Most healthy fit bitches do bounce back after a litter and when given the appropriate care and nutrition can quite easily go straight back for another. I would guess that the puppy farm bitches who were in such a state were never healthy fit bitches. IMO many people are pushing the ban puppy farm barrow without really understanding what they want stopped. Ask the question what is a puppy farm and we get different responses. Of course registered Breeders are concerned that they will be caught up in the hysteria when there are simply no definitions. Asking people to stop and think carefully before they start blindly joining the mob is not supporting the grubs. Some of you just cannot see that no matter how many times it is written. I was told yesterday that anyone who breeds more than 1 litter a year is a farmer, anyone who comes out ahead financially is a farmer, anyone who advertises in the press or online is a farmer, add that to the rest of the tripe and we clearly have many people who really do not have a clue pushing for banning something. A bit like BSL isn't it. Do we want to stop the grubs? Of course we do. But first we have to define who they are!

A force dryer from Pupkus would probably suit, they start at around $300.

A dog does not have to swallow a toad to be affected by the poison which is excreted by the glands on the back of the toad. Simply mouthing a toad can be enough to cause serious and often deadly reactions. Rinsing the dogs mouth out from the side with running water for 10 minutes helps to flush the toxin from the mouth where it is absorbed through the mucous membranes. Frothing, drooling, bright red inside cheeks and gums all mean you need to flush with water and quickly.

Why Do Sighthounds Tend To Be Timid/sensitive?
Crisovar replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Quite often surveys give such limited choices that you cannot give an accurate answer, I have no idea if this was the case here. Timid is not a word I would use to describe sighthounds, someone who has only lived with a breed such as Labs or Staffords may disagree. I love their aloofness, their disdain for people or activities that do not interest them and their keenness for the chase and hunt. Sighthounds doing what they are bred for could not be described as timid. -
Bioluminescence, bacteria that glow green. Nothing alien or sinister simply bacteria that multiply when food is not kept at the correct temp.

This! It is totally unacceptable behaviour, and you are lucky he hasn't had a swift kick from someone. I would not allow him free run if he cannot behave when you have visitors.

Wary Of A Particular Breed... Anyone Else...?
Crisovar replied to WillowGirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't count on your opinion, Zuri. And life with dogs is not all about ANKC recognised breeds. Actually, come to think of it, nor is it all about ANKC. I'm actually for all dogs. Not selective breeds. ETA: Hey, SG ... thanks for the prompt to change Victoria's description in my profile. "Dismal" is an understatement. But yes .... it is depressing, that's for sure. ETA: Oh, and BTW, Zuri - out of curiousity, what State do you reside in? Erny, what I am trying to say is that the only thing new about the situation is they have extended the target to Pitbull cross breeds which doesn't mean next week they will be after Rottweilers, GSD's or any other large breed and I don't think we should be scaring people to believe this could happen anytime soon. The target remains on Pitbull's, cross breeds with Pitbull blood is not a step closer to restricting anything other than dogs of Pitbull connection, it has nothing to do with other breeds so why the panic? What I object to, is the "your breed will be next" agenda on the basis they have tightened up on restricted breeds and extened the target to crossbreeds of which is basically the tightening or policing of the laws already in place. When they start tabling legislation to add breeds to the list or restrict recognised breeds, then we panic, but until then, it's just my opinion that we need to relax and deal with that situation if it ever arises? BSL of any sort is a step closer to trouble for us all IMO, having already experienced restriction on one of my breeds the GSD in the past I never want to go there again, however these latest knee jerk reactions will not stop incidents happening. It is not about banning breeds it is about enforcing the laws we already HAD in place, so far no government has proven that they can do so, or that they even recognise that is what the issue is. -

Council Seizing & Destroying Staffy's
Crisovar replied to Saffioraire's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would like to see those responsible for pushing through these laws made to stand and watch the destruction of innocent dogs with wagging tails that lick the faces and hands of those killing them. :mad BSL is bullshit legislation nothing more nothing less. Those that are still sitting on the fence, those that are convinced it is necessary, and those that feel that owners who do the right thing have nothing to fear should watch too. -
What Colour Is 'liver': Cooked Or Raw?
Crisovar replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is nothing wrong with having a preference for a particular shade of colour if all boxes are ticked. My dark liver/chocolate boy is an excellent working dog and a very sound, typical Lab as well, his colour is the icing on the cake for me. Nothing wrong with an OWNER preference. If I like redfox yellows, fine and dandy. But if a judge overlooks chocos cause they are a bit bleached . . . well . . . no need to go into it . . . I don't have a high opinion of the show ring as a way to judge quality. Just one more thing to make me cynical. Chocos do bleach . . . yellows do too . . . but no one cares if a yellow goes lighter. It's sick to have people keeping their dogs out of the sun to avoid a natural process. Fine if it's icing on the cake for you. It should NOT be icing on the cake in the show ring, cause the icing is very often the deciding feature. Ok.....no icing. Toss a coin then. -

What Colour Is 'liver': Cooked Or Raw?
Crisovar replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is how the term Liver is used by my Lab friends. I Prefer the darkest liver/chocs with good pigment and dark eye colour. The majority of gundog breeds that have brown colouring call the colour liver. I don't really know why chocolate became the more used description for labs, maybe they were losing the richness of colour and chocolate as in milk chocolate was a better description. I don't think it was to make the colour more appealing. -
What Type Of Tinned Tuna
Crisovar replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mackeral or Sardines here too for the oil content, Tuna also tends to give dogs the squirts so useful for that purpose more than as a source of Fish Oils. -
Sounds like the poor dog needs to be with a Rescue group that specialises or at least understands small breeds. Try the Rescue forum here or pop into the Maltese breed thread.
-
It is all relative to your experiences I guess. I know far more excellent Breeders than bad. But on Rescue front well the majority just make me shudder. As for having nothing to fear, witch hunts, vendettas and plain ignorance do damage and drive away people who should be encouraged and supported. What is the right thing, no one can even agree on that. Too much hysterical emotive bullshit splash it all over the press and tar all breeders with the same brush seems to be the common approach. We have laws and regulations being made by people who have not a clue how healthy happy pups should be raised and we are intent on making it harder for those that do it well. Talk to 6 different people about puppy farms and they will all have a different definition. Breeders who don't show, breeders who breed to show, breeders who feed out of stainless steel dishes, don't have dogs sleeping on their beds, Breeders with kennels, breeders who don't have kennels. The more laws and regulations you push for the more the whole breeding game is going to become commercial and impersonal. Small Breeders with a few dogs in their home will be a thing of the past, because their homes will not meet the standard required. No more pups underfoot in the house watching telly with the kids, they will all be housed in their sterile purpose built facility way down the back. Way to go!
