  1. You obviously have a very high energy dog. The average dog does not have the same energy requirements after desexing. My GSD was desexed at 20 months she requires much less than she did previously.
  2. DYEX or Food colouring also works short term, and is easy to source.
  3. There are many different brands of Intestinal Wormers , Ambex, Drontal, Canex, Canine Allwormer, Endogard, Closasole, Milbemax, Paragard, Popantel. The ingredients vary, and yes you may have upset your dog with a change of food and a wormer at the same time. If she is sensitive to wormers, maybe do a faecal test to see if she does in fact need worming before you dose her.
  4. Do I understand that you did get your own litter? yes you understand right I had a prefix for years bred 1 litter ,but I also have chosen not to supply a already oversupplied market any more and to be exact since Australia Day 1998 probably before even the inception of this forum. I have also worked in a pound environment for 10 years and see what goes on. I also believe all dog owners should walk a day in the shoes of a pound attendant especially in country pounds not sit behind a computer screen. And to say only crossbred puppies get taken to pounds well that is wrong as well. Remember there are more than your big fancy city pounds. And people also think they all get rehomed well hate to say 45% of dogs that go through country pounds die in those pounds. Ah persphone ,, the old dog on the chain hmmm we sure get different perpectives in country areas. I deal with pound dogs every day. Desexing is not the answer. It will not stop stupid uneducated choices of pet, and it will not stop irresponsible owners dumping their pets. The majority of animals in pounds are there due to them not meeting the owners criteria, again wrong choice of pet, ignorant to the time and effort that will be needed to meet that criteria.
  5. One dog that has not by any stretch reached maturity. I think there are as many closed minds on the other side of the debate.
  6. I thought they had to be tested but were still eligible for registration.
  7. Yes, because the working homes were chosen with the same care as any other pup, and those pups that excelled were of course valuable to the gene pool.
  8. Do you honestly believe that it is just a beauty contest??? If that is all it is perceived to be then we may as well throw the bloody lot in now.
  9. Since it was humans who introduced the pest rabbits to the island in the 1800's I guess that is what they are doing, fixing a human stuff up. The Rabbits are in plague proportions destroying the vegetation of the fragile island, would you rather they left them there??
  10. It is very costly but if you do make the move its going to cost you a lot anyway so why not pay that bit extra for your animals? It cost us about 10.000 AUD to bring over our 3 dogs and 3 cats when we came here but so well worth it! I know a lot of people that dont bring the animal because "its not fair to put the animal through the long flight or quarantine" etc but unless your animal is pretty sick its no excuse. And if the animal would be to sick to make the trip you simply wait. I wouldnt have come over myself if I wouldnt have been able to bring my animals. We had to say goodbye to 2 sheep, 2 goats and lots of chooks already which was hard enough. Happy for you that $10,000 is just a bit. For some it is a fortune. For some animals the quarantine would be unbearable. If people make choices in the best interests of their family and their animals then we should be supporting them not laying guilt trips. Not everyone has the same journey through life.
  11. It is an untrained dog thing. If the owners cannot or will not get a handle on it then that is their problem as for your issue with it then I would simply not eat in front of the dog when it is visiting your house, or put it outside when you do.
  12. One day in a perfect world people will take the responsibility of pet ownership seriously, they will choose the breed that suits their needs and capabilities and they will put in the hard yards. Until that day we will continue to have adds such as these. There is no perfect dog, there is no perfect breed and that is the reality of it.
  13. It was still audible so you can hardly say they took it's voice away. The dog is most probably a nuisance barker and you have no idea what methods have been tried. There are far worse things for a dog than having its pitch lowered. I can't believe some people either
  14. It certainly sounds like dogs from what you have described.
  15. There are many theories on Bloat, I have seen bloat in dogs fed dry, raw, home cooked, and in dogs that have not recently eaten. Dogs fed raised dogs fed off the ground. One of my own bloated after gulping air, and had not been fed for 8 hours prior. I have also seen a bitch bloat after whelping and her stomach contained no food just gas and a little water. Dogs have bloated in their kennels despite being locked up after feeding and not having been exercised prior. I do not allow exercise 2 hours before feeding and generally not at all after the evening meal. I do not feed any dog that is over excited, gulping etc. It is something I am always aware of.
  16. And this is exactly how something like this could and will no doubt be used maliciously. There are no doubt those who would think nothing of doing exactly the same thing to a breeders dogs.
  17. All PF is doing is emphasising that it was PREVENTABLE, which it was. Dog Owners who allow their dogs to approach stranger and/or strange dogs run the risk that their dogs advances will be unwelcome. Of course not all will be stabbed I think we all agree that was extreme, but it the responsibility of the dog owner to keep their dog in their own space. I love dogs but detest owners who allow their dogs to get in my face and that of my dog/s. Just because you can see your dog and it is friendly doesn't mean it is under effective control.
  18. If it wins enough I'd say most folk will think its good enough. I agree with both of you. I think Conztruct is describing the ideal, I think PF is in touch with the reality. In that case the reality is that most people should not be Breeding.
  19. Personally I cant' think of a faster way to send a breeder's lines down the toilet than to put up anything they enter. People probably think they're doing friends a favour - they aren't. Put up shite and it gets bred... there goes the kennel. Food for thought on this. It is the BREEDERS responsibility to choose the stock they breed from, any Breeder worth their salt will not breed from an animal simply because it wins. It is not the fault of Judges when crap animals are bred from, it is the fault of the Breeder.
  20. White markings often lessen as the pup grows, for a pet this will make no difference at all, a show prospect is another story altogether. A healthy sound puppy from a registered breeder with a dash of white on its chest is worth more than a litter of byb pups in peace of mind. It is not markings that you are paying for.
  21. A lot of what we consider to be odd beliefs have cultural roots, simply different to our own, not psychotic or insane, simply different. I'm sure there are some cultures that feel some of your quirks are moronic too.
  22. It would be easy to post the Councils that don't have a 2 dog limit.
  23. This is too much too fast. You will not get a clear indication of any sensitivities by introducing all this so quickly. The dog needs to see a Dermatologist, and be properly assessed before consideration is given to rehoming.
  24. The Dingo population is not starving there are already many native prey species on the island for them. Controlling the humans would be the answer. Sadly it is much easier to kill the Dingoes. Once a wild animal loses its fear of humana and they interact incidents will happen, they are wild animals and should be left alone and not fed either directly or by lack of campsite security and the dumping of rubbish.
